LBP Beta Levels Won't Work In Finished Game
Posted by Stuart Houghton at 8:20 AM on September 27, 2008
If you have been lucky enough to play with a LittleBigPlanet beta and have knocked up a good-looking level, make sure you sketch it on the back of an envelope or something.
Media Molecule's Leo Cubbin confirmed to fan site LittleBigMadness that none of the lovingly crafted beta levels will be importable into the finished game, not even that amazing Shadow Of The Colossus one the other day.
Gone, finished, useless. Kaput. Like tears in rain, and all that.

@LittleBigPlaneteer:
buttt.... they didn't pay anything for it, and are lucky to be playing the beta at all, so i'm sure they'll survive.
they will be better equipped to make levels when the game does release, anyways. :p

I'm sure it's just a version number in the file. A little Hex editor can probably fix that right up.
And yes, I just made it sound 100 times easier than it probably is. hehe

@fuchikoma:
On the actual disc? No. The actual disc will have the 50-60 developer created levels. Those user created levels would be handled by the network, not put on any discs.

To those of you who have access to the beta. It's your chance to take the awesome levels out there, reproduce them completely on paper, create them when you get the game and you'll have a great level, on top of the chart.
Well, that's what I'd do considering I'll probably suck at making levels and will end up creating boobies land.
Though I agree that the reproduction on paper part might be a little tricky ...

That was what I was about to say. All 3 winning Parsons levels will be there in a special section in the final release.

@Stuart Houghton:
You should also note that the levels created in the upcoming beta will be transferable to the full game. Only the levels created in the previous betas will not be.

Well that sucks. Seems kind counter-intuitive too. Plus the beta users who spent hours creating a masterpiece will be pretty pissed by this.

I can see that some things would be tweaked and break the levels in the gold version, but wasn't the old plan to include the best levels on the disc?
Maybe they'll playtest them on the final engine and tweak them enough to still work for the very best ones... but still, looking at what's out BEFORE release, I literally cannot imagine what will be out after a whole week of public play.

Yeah, that sucks, but I suppose it makes sense. They don't want beta users to get a jump start on everyone else in terms of playtime and having a library of levels. I mean, the most downloaded people end up on the top of a "recommended" list. And if they are the only ones in the first few weeks that have levels out, their numbers are going to be artificially inflated.

Actually, most, if not all, of the levels created by the Parson's students will be available at launch. It was on confirmed on the PS Blog. It will be under "Parson's Planet."

That's pretty cold. But if they were to include some levels, how would they decide which? Number of hits? Number of thumbs up? If there's a stand out gem of a level, then it could make it.
We've gotta remember the games out at the end the month, and this was a beta. The lucky few who are making levels, should be happy they had the chance. Im jealous, but not bitter. Just excited at what seems like a golden reception from those who are currently in the beta..

When an individual makes a mistake on any news outlet, they should fix it. That last part of the post is untrue. I'm being an ass by saying it's untrue and asking for an edit?
Someone who doesn't read the comments has no idea that part of the blog post is untrue.

@____: I already posted that and it's not all BS. The author of this article is correct. He simply left out some important information.
The missing information states that the levels being created in the beta currently being released will be compatible with the full game. All the previous betas will not be compatible. Reason being, this beta is based on the full version of the product and the others aren't.

Considering how many rocket-car (ZOMG ROCKETS!) and bland broken levels there are in the beta, I'm pretty happy about it. Of course, as soon as the game hits retail I'm sure it'll be another month of rocket cars and bland broken levels.
Seriously guys, enough with the rocket cars already.
On the flipside of that, there have been some pretty boss, if unrefined, levels in there. I've only published two so far since I like to bug-test the crap out of them. PSNID is Half-Jack if anyone wants to hit me up.

@Nkosi868:
i just read the blog again and you are correct, still it's stupid to just "forget" to mention it in the original story, which would turn it into "GOOD NEWS NORTH AMERICA". but that version will not generate as much hits, and we know how much Kotaku puts them hits above integrity :P

I'm still waiting for Kotaku to update this story with what the official blog had to say about the current levels existing in the final level... you know, to not tarnish their "integrity". i don't think it can take another hit ;)
