Man Claiming To Be Mortal Kombat 3 Director Still Keeping The Faith Over New Movie
Posted by Stuart Houghton at 8:20 AM on September 4, 2008
Moviehole.net scored an exclusive interview with a man claiming to be the director of the third Mortal Kombat movie - variously called Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat: Devastation and just plain old Mortal Kombat.
I say 'claiming to be', because the man — Christopher 'Mink' Morrison — isn't mentioned on the film's IMDB page. Somebody called Chris 'Mink' Wingfield was involved for a bit, but not any more. I'm as confused as you are, frankly.
No matter, Mink says that the threequel is "still the money stage" and that several of the original cast members have been approached to star in the new film. None have yet committed.
The film is described as 'more of a remake' than a sequel - so perhaps there is to be some Dark Knight-style reinvention of the MK mythos. That has to be a good thing - the first two were unpardonable toss - but is there any real demand for a MK film? What do you lot think?
Filmmaker still game for Mortal Kombat [Moviehole]

MORTAL KOMBAT MOVIE REBOOT IN DEVELOPMENT.
Threshold Entertainment is working on the finance with hollywood studios so the third Mortal Kombat movie is a remake so the casting will be underway but I don't think that Robin Shou will return he said he will move on from MK movies and Linden Ashby I don't think he would return for Johnny Cage ethier so this a MK remake I think that director Mink and producer Larry Kasanoff could get new actors for the new film IMO thaey might bring Shin Koyamada to get some audition to play Liu Kang and another Asian martial artist to play the Great Kung Lao or the young Kung Lao, plus they will be a new actress to play Sonya Blade also a new male actor to play Johnny Cage.
It would be cool if we see Shin Koyamada to play the Liu Kang role for this new Mortal Kombet movie remake.
Thank You.

I actually enjoyed the first film. It's not good, but it was pretty entertaining. Wich is all you can hope for from a film based on a fighting game I think.
The second on the other hand, is one of the worst pieces of shit I have ever seen. It's a mess, I'm not sure it even had a coherent script when they shot it.

You're right, when I was 15 or whatever when it came out, I enjoyed the first MK movie. I'm a bit more discerning now, but at the time it was pretty cool (and way, way better than the Street Fighter movie).

@vid3oman64: What about Election?
Is there any way I could have Election: The Game instead of more Mortal Kombat across any medium? Hell, I'd even settle for About Schmidt: The Game; Sideways: The Game is pushing it, though.

What? But I thought that the first MK movie was actually pretty good. It's at least decent, I wouldn't go so far as to call it animal feces.

The orginal is campy fun and Paul W.S. Anderson's second best film, imho, after Event Horizon, which was also campy fun.
The second was pure, unadulterated shit. At least the first had Christopher Lambert doing an awesome Raiden. Seriously...I wish Raiden was that cool in the games.

The OG Mortal Kombat was badass! That was back when Paul Anderson made good movies, like Event Horizon and Resident Evil.

Are you kidding? The first one was a classic.
The 2nd one... not so much. Just look at the animality at the end... the story wasn't structured well and the acting wasn't as good that 2nd time.
I think reinventing/and or just making another but forgetting the 2nd ever happened would be a great idea.

Said it before and I'll say it again, first one is awesomely bad and easily Paul W.S. Anderson's best film.
Second is just awful.
New Live Action TMNT will be even better, though.
And DBZ live action looks horrible....

Ah come on, the original Mortal Kombat was fine. Not all movies need to be artsy fartsy (especially when most that try are generally pretentious).
Like a critic once wrote of Resident Evil, sometimes you just want to see a hot chick shooting zombies. Well, if Milla does it for you, anyhow.

Unpardonable toss? The first MK film was strangely thrilling at the time, and highly enjoyable. Christ only knows how I'd feel about seeing it now, but at the time I thought it was well cast, well shot, had good action sequences in and was even pretty funny in places. And the MUSIC ROCKED.
But the second one... now, that was a real shitty stinker.

0=Disaster Movie, From Justin to Kelly, Glitter
The second movie was godawful. Maybe a .5?

I'm sorry but this movie has been in production for years. I have spoken to Mink personally (you can on his IMDB page) and he seems to have taken no responsibility for the film. He is waiting for the "writers" to finish, along with money, etc.
But come on, this is almost taking as long as Duke Nukem Forever.
Not to mention Mink's only film was with Segal?

Ah, good old days. Wouldn't mind seeing a new one with the same theme. I don't think MK has anything to put up with in regards to depth of story so a safe bet would be to bring together a bunch of awesome fighters and duke it out with better fight co-ordination, better lighting, better acting etc.

I think that the first one is extremely overrated by gamers, but it is an okay film. The second one was directed by my step-mom's cousin. I met him a few times in the mid-90s and he seemed nice. I went to see it at a dollar theatre with my father and it is one of only two films for which I can remember him demanding his money back. I talked him out of it, but considering that it was directed by family, that says a lot about the quality. As for my feelings on the second one, it is complete and total garbage. I looked at IMDB and it looks like I gave it a 3 out of 10, which seems a bit high, but I was probably being generous that day.

The first Mortal Kombat was a guilty pleasure if ever there was one. The second one was guilty of being composed entirely of ass.
If they make a third, I'd still go to see it, despite the craptacular second one. ESPECIALLY if they got the original people back.

The heroes are walking into the sunset then suddenly, Ninja's come jumping around surrounding them and Shao Khan appears and Johnny Cage flying kicks him and then he dies

As someone said, the first was a classic. One of the very best video game movies ever made (just about sounds like an oxymoron, doesn't it). I admit watching it not long ago and realizing it wasn't as awesome as it was when I saw it many years ago as a youngster, but hey it still stands up.
Perhaps it was just the awesome theme music that to this day is a recognizable song.
Annihilation, however, was absolute garbage. A joke of a movie. Again, as someone mentioned, the animality at the end should never, ever have made the final cut. It's almost as though they ran out of cash towards the end!
Bring on MK3!

I still love the first MK movie. It was not what I had envisioned an MK movie to be, but it was still a fairly faithful video game movie adaptation and had decent fight choreography and a good soundtrack.
I hope that if/when they do a "remake" it's closer to the mythology and character relationships of the video game, which was my main gripe with the (first) movie.
I think it's a general consensus that the 2nd was utter garbage.
