With the confirmation of the people reporting it (reuters), Crecente's confidence that it's true, AND Nintendo's response here I'd say it's more true than false.

I mean compare these responses to what you get with the many other past DS rumors and you'll fine this one has a whole lot more bearings to it. I'm pretty much confident we'll see a new DS within the next few months.

I wouldn't jump to CONFIRMED that quickly. Like the post says, adding a music player and a camera is a little bit anti-nintendo philosophy.

One thing is for sure, there's definitely a new DS / Gameboy / Nintendo portable in the works. If you're counting this as CONFIRMED, that would make me think this is going to be more of a premium SKU than anything else. I doubt there would be any other hardware upgrades and I'm sure they would continue to sell the DS Lite as it is.

Who knows though. Guess we'll see.

I just sold my DS, and I'm kind of glad I did now, because there's no way I'd have been able to get rid of it after a NEW DS hit the market whenever/if ever it does.

Poor DS. I wanted to love it. I did love it, I just couldn't love it *enough*. Only playing it once per 6 months wasn't making it happy, so it found a better home.

Nintendo wanted to phase out the original DS as fast as possible. The DS Lite sold for the DS's original price in Japan (as the DS's price did drop in Japan).

They probably knew that people would still pay for the Lite despite the premium over the original.

However, NOA felt the new model should sell for the same price as the original DS, and priced it as such.

It's obvious that Nintendo have a new DS lined up, they don't just sit back and twiddle their thumbs when hardware is released, they work on some new hardware. This 'new DS' may have been being developed even before the Lite was released. Problem is, it makes little sense to release a new DS at the moment, it's always in the top spots of the hardware charts (usually by a country mile) and the software charts (especially Europe and Japan) are no different. Though Nintendo have done stranger things recently...

There is so much stuff on the big consoles (or let us say on two of the big consoles ^^) that there is not really enough time left to play the little shinies and golden peaces of the DS, when the other things that your everydays life is filled with, like friends, jobs (or school for others), family and much, much more.

Not excited about this new ds with camera, music player, better wireless functionality. The DS has good enough wireless right now. It can play music with homebrew. The camera won't be as good as real cameras and other camera gadgets out there.

If they came out with a new ds with bigger screens, improved graphics, and better performance, then that would be something to look forward to.
