The closets thing to the U.S. getting a International Version was Final Fantasy VII. When it released stateside, we had the Ruby and Diamond Weapon Boss battles. Also, we had the cool version of Sephiroth's Super Nova Summon. After the U.S. version came out Square gave the Japanese FFVII International which was basically the U.S. version with a Monster Compendium.

Wouldnt be surprising considering that they already have to cast voice work for 358/2 days anyway. They might as well release a game thats a. already translated and b. uses the same voices as the upcoming DS game. Although that still doesnt make it any less awesome, especially considering that my neice sold my Chain of Memories for the advance and ive been looking for a decently priced (less than 20 bucks) game somewhere! Now ill just wait a couple more months till they announce this for ps2:)

@Pyro Jack: It's largely because in Japan, they released a Kingdom Hearts 2 Rerelease that had Chain of Memories attached to it in full PS2 form, much as they re-release newer versions of their final Fantasy games.

What's bugging me is that it seems like they're just going to strip out the Chain of Memories from the Final Mix and bring it here. Japan still gets to keep the extra battles and items and whatnot, and we get a GBA remake. This mostly comes from my displeasure that these + versions never make it outside Asia.

The fact is Japanese companies shower alot of attention onto Japanese fans but not on anyone else. This is odd considering that gaming seems to be sliding off in Japan and increasing over here. Re-releasing a game can be great if its done. There's amrket for it, and considering how much Square Enix loves money and doign rehashes it just never struck me as smart to keep the love limited to Japan

@TRT-X: Its called the "International Version" to differentiate it from the original domestic release. Since the international (to Japan) releases have later release dates, they use the time to not only do localization work, but also to add things.

For those who don't know, there is a fangroup by the name of transgen who doing a fan translation of COM. Before KH, they have translated the game, NAmco vs capcom.

...anyway, I liked the first Kingdom Hearts despite wanting to hate it (for the concept) so much. Then they made the simple story insanely convoluted, requiring you to play a poor handheld game (which I did try to play for a couple of hours) to understand what was going on in the sequel (which I gave up on in confusion after 10-15 hours). So I wouldn't say the fans ruined it; I'd say the scenario writers did that themselves.
