Shotgate: Portal Clone For The (Yes!) Commodore 64
Posted by Stuart Houghton at 9:20 AM on September 20, 2008
Get me Valve on the phone. Tell Lombardi that the Portal prequel dev team can go home - their services are no longer required.
And yes, that Portal fan mod can sling its hook too. The Commodore 64 remake 'Shotgate' has rendered both games utterly pointless.
Yes, it's a Portal clone for the C64. No, it's not in 3D and - yes - it does look quite like that Flash tribute from last year.
This little fella was made in just 4K of C64 assembler for the Mini Games Comp 2008. If you like the look of it, the programmer is actually selling it in C64 cartridge form in a limited edition run of 20. Buy now to avoid/ensure disappointment.

@imikedaman: Nopers, it turns out, I meant Hunter. But thanks for spurring me to find it :)

@dead_red_eyes: from what i can tell, portal isn't in the name and there is no reference to portal story elements. obviously no assets were borrowed or used from the 3d valve production either. unless i'm missing something i don't see a problem here.

@dead_red_eyes: For a Commodore-64 game with only 20 copies max being sold??? Any company like Valve would allow that. But even if that weren't the case, this game doesn't have "Portal" in the name, nor does it reproduce any of the Portal IP at all. They just copied the concept, and even then it's changed considerably (2D instead of 3D first-person). So it's not even on the fringe of legality.

Something tells me that he won't be selling it in C64 Cartridge form for very long. The Portal IP belongs to Valve, and the fact that he's charging money for this does not bode well. Let's see how long it takes for him to get slapped with a cease and desist.

Damnit, wrong direction. I wanted Battlefort/battlemech updated for the Athlon FX59--not backwards compatibility for games I love now... :(
Anybody remember the name of the that open world GTA style game that had a bull and 'petrol' that came out for Amiga? I can't remember it for the life of me, but I remember being jealous as hell of it. (the inevitable english reader who remembers it can also correct my grammer, if they care to)

Someone needs to make a board game and a Collectible Card Game, possibly a cell phone version.

@bayfield: There is one clear story element of Portal used: don't you see the cake?

Keen.
Still, I rather stay with the DS homebrew "Still Alive".

That is really nifty, though I can't play PAL games.
Nor do I have a C64.
Make a portal clone for NTSC Ti-99/4a, THEN I'll be impressed.
Awesome homebrew games with retail pacakaging is always sweet.
