Dragon Quest IX Officially Dated For Japan
Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 5:15 PM on October 1, 2008
Square Enix has finally dated Dragon Quest IX. The Level 5 developed DS title will get its Japan release in March 2009. According to Square Enix, the release date is given as "March 2009", and the title has not yet been priced or rated. This comes as apparently Square Enix president Yoichi Wada recently stated that the game would be going on sale "during the New Year's period". Dragon Quest IX was originally announced in late 2006.
The title will not be playable at next week's Tokyo Game Show.

I Love Level 5. They are the Pixar of videogame developers.
Where is my White Knight Chronicles US announcement?! I don't need dubbed voices. Just some subtitles and I am good to go!

@EmTeeZ: IX
The third game that worth every cent and probably the best dq game.
I wish there will be a new nds with better graphics and bigger screen , that is what drags some games down.

It's some kind of fruit important to the story, or els it wouldn't be in the logo. In the very first trailer we could see a pear-like fruit falling from a tree on top of a huge city in the skies.

Level5 can create decent goods, AS LONG AS Yuuji Horii is holding the tether. The premise of returning to turn-based combat on what's supposed to be a semi-networked RPG scares me, but I guess it'll be seen what they do with it come TGS.
Dragon Quest / FF purchases have never been a priority for me anyway (after all they're the price-drop leaders), so I'll look to around June for whether I want to get this or not.

Let's see, VIII came out in 2004. IX will be out in 2009. A 5 year wait for a DS game?
Look, Square-Enix. If you want to get back into the game you will need to release your major franchises quicker than the time it takes to get a Bachelor's degree. It's more profitable to have quality AND quantity, not just the first.

I guess this is good news. I recognize the impact DQ has on the Japanese gaming market. It doesn't do much elsewhere. I keep trying to like it, but the battle system is too boring, and I'm tired of random battles. I wish SE stuck with the original plan they had for DQIX.

@Lixie: Well, Level 5 is developing the game. The company ain't that big and over the past 5 years, they've been making plenty of games.
Similarly, with a series like DQ it doesn't matter when SE releases it; it sell well in Japan no matter what.

Well, finally... I've been waiting for this game for a long time now. But it was obvious from the very moment of the game's announcement that SE wouldn't release the game just two years after DQVIII.

Gosh, it's so simple. Heck, Square-Enix should release a major title every three months -- they'd saturate the market and make billions! What the hell are they thinking?! Can't they see they'd be making more money if they were constantly making near-perfect games?? Bunch of morons...
