Honestly compared to a lot of other movie sequels (yes, I look at you Spiderman 3, Sam Raimi, yeah, you made the evil dead saga but I am losing my patience), X-Men 3 wasn't that bad. Enjoyable one time watch.

Biggest Problem (same with the current Max Payne movie) will be that they will ignore the atmosphere of the game and just take the premise. So what we will get will be a Gladiator style GoW, which doesn't need to be too bad...

BTW did the GoW story remind anyone else remind you of the life of a psychopath: A guy kills his family, and then goes on slaughtering lots of people as he is on a mission from the gods ....

This guy makes movies very fast, and cheaply. They give him stuff with a proven audience (Xmen, GoW) aka "guaranteed cash", then he makes a barely passable flick quickly and cheaply. They get panned by the critics and everyone else for sucking, but they make assloads of cash because the fan-base goes and sees them.

I'll never see another movie from this guy, even if he makes Iron Man 2 and X-Men 4, he's a total hack.

What is it about directors that makes people pinpoint them as the sole reason a movie succeeds/fails? The man didn't write the crappy story(writers do that), he didn't hand craft the crappy CGI all by himself(effects studios), he doesn't greenlight the crappy product placement or excise the controversial ending the book had(producers)... hell, chances are he didn't even edit the damn thing! Very rarely do directors suck as much as people like to think they do... sometimes they're dicks like Michael Bay, or deserve the panning because they ARE responsible for the sucky script or editing of their films like M Night, and yeah Ratner fancies himself as a bit of a celebrity which does up the douche factor a bit, but if you ask me he does his job as a DIRECTOR just fine. Shots are framed well, he might not work with the best actors but he at least gets good performances out of them.

The entire script lacked consistency and overall was too jumpy and bent on being horribly surprising (what they did to Professor X was UNFORGIVABLE), but in light of Ratner's career, I don't consider him a shining star of a director by any means. Give the GoW to Zach Snyder, Frank Miller, or hell, even James Cameron could make a masterpiece out of that '2 dimensional character.'

anybody who was actually hoping for a quality adaptation of a gow movie is in for a big disappointment regardless of director. Dont get me wrong the game isnt bad by any means, but it is a GAME. A film about the mythology the game is based on might work but you put a bald actor with clown make up on the big screen and ask non fanboys to take it seriously is just fucking stupid. Especially with a trademark Kratos weapon and....god it sounds rediculous. Ratner is the perfect fit. In all honesty I was not disgusted by the movie. I thought the story was very bad, horribly paced, but the action and I guess just seeing some childhood heroes in action made it a watchable action flick.

David, if you're still keeping tabs on these comments, first of all, I'm flattered. In a horrified sort of way. Second, I stand by my sentiment that Ratner's attachment def--okay, most likely--diminishes the potential of the project. I have no doubts that it will be a visual stunner (like the games), and it'll probably have some very solid action sequences and fight choreography (ditto). I just have no faith that he can deliver a movie that, well, moves me (in any direction, really).

If it ever comes out that one or two 'top-notch' directors turned the project down before it trickled down to Ratner, I'll happily eat my text, but I'll also be disappointed that a true AAA game franchise yet again doesn't get the AAA Hollywood treatment.

I don't want to be right in the end, but even if I am, it was an honor, Most Outspoken One.
