Someone Else Says Max Payne 3 Is In Development
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 6:30 PM on October 1, 2008
In August, EGM said Max Payne 3 was in development, and it was in development at Rockstar Vancouver. Rockstar Vancouver being a) an internal Rockstar studio and b) the guys behind the pretty-great Warriors game on the PSP. Now, in September, Xbox World 360 are saying the same thing, a report in the latest issue of the mag saying the game's in development at, yes, Rockstar Vancouver. Provided this is going off new info, it'll be interesting to see how the series goes in the hands of somebody else (original devs Remedy still toiling away, of course, on never-actually-coming-out Alan Wake).

@Dragnipur:
+1
I am a bit worried tho, as you know Sam Lake probably won't be involved in the writing process. I really do hope that they get him to do that tho, as it would make a lot of MP fanboys like me really happy.

Wasn't Alan Wake supposed to be a N64 game originally? They've really pushed that one back!
And I wonder how the movie would affect the game? Max Payne the Movie the Game?

@dead_red_eyes: On the bright side, he probably won't be involved in being Max's face, either.

The latest issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine in the UK says the same thing, page 29:
"The team at Rockstar Games responsible for the PSP version of The Warriors is working on Max Payne 3."

I don't care who makes it as long as it's true to the originals and sells enough to allow for another sequel, one that can be planned out and made properly.

I have a feeling it'll be 360/PS3. No way it'd be PS3 exclusive when they can tap into the 360 market.
I am skeptical of a PC version because of how badly it was burned by the pirates.

I haven't beaten the second Max Payne game yet, but does the story need a continuation? Is there some kind of unexplained event in the second game that left people dazed and confused that can warrant a third game?

2 things: This is the best potential thing I've read all week, and Rockstar Vancouver also developed Bully.
Why you guys would overlook that in favour of the PSP port of The Warriors is beyond me.

I heart just about everything having to do with crime/noir fiction, like Ed Brubaker's Criminal comic and films like Brick, for example, and no video game franchise has captured that kind of atmosphere better than Max Payne.
I always secretly hoped the dev team responsible for MP would get a shot at a Batman game (and finally make a good one) for just that reason.
Can't f-ing wait for this.

If this is true I'm going to be really happy. Max Payne is one of, if not my favorites series. The epic game that was Max Payne 2 is one I'll be continuing to think about for years as a game that pushed the games story telling medium. The sequences and the way that game were crafted still blow my mind. I always thought that they might cap it off and turn it into a trilogy, and it seems we're getting one step closer to that actually happening.

As possibly the most depressing game series I have ever played, I have to wonder who Maxie will lose to a hail of gunfire this time. Grandparents in town, perhaps? Local T-ball league he began coaching? The tear-jerking possibilities are endless.

@Metron4: Lawl. Maybe he'll get a cat. And someone will assassinate it. I'd love to see some noir spin on that.

@Ravenhood: It was sort of wrapped up. If you beat the game on any difficult other then the hardest one, it sorts of wraps itself up. But if you beat it on the hardest mode, it leaves room for more story (the ending is different, not to spoil anything).
