Good lord the shear amount of pre-release hate for this is the most I've ever seen for a single movie. I'm still keeping an open mind, at the very least the action scenes look to be entertaining.

And besides, this is actually a teaser for the full trailer, it's not the whole thing. But hey, why not? Honestly it just seems like they're not trying at all and just trying to do a budget job. Piccolo should be green, the hair should be glowing yellow and 6ft tall, master roshi should have his sunglasses and beard and then kamehameha the moon to turn Goku back from his great ape form.

To be honest unless Goku stands there looking constipated for half the film before dropping a spirit bomb I won't enjoy it.

What makes me so pissed off is that Hollywood is full of the "best" film makers in the world, yet there isnt one person who could have made this movie awesome? Is it that fucking hard to make a dragonball live action movie awesome? No its not. Ill bet that a good percentage of the people that comment here could get in a directors chair with 100 million dollars and make a great dragonball movie.

Did they miss the part where everything was supposed to move super fast, the fighting isnt supposed to look like it was choreographed by that fat star wars kid dancing with the lightsaber, and there are supposed to be massive energy waves flying EVERYWHERE. Go watch the last fight between Neo and Mr. Smith. That choreography was ripped/inspired directly from Dragonball, and it actually would have been really awesome, if it didnt so blatantly rip off Dragonball. Thats how this movie should look. With big ass CGI energy waves flying around.

I'll be honest, the only reason I wish this movie would never exist is that by making this movie American or European, it effectively loses everything this shallow series had going for it. Dragonball Z was essentially the easy version of Dragonball, but it had a lot of underlying humor just like that original movie that for the most part doesn't translate into english.

It isn't that I think an english version of a japanese thing will never work. For example, I love the english and japanese versions of "The Grudge" for the different aspects of it (Despite the fact Americans won't dare kill Buffy in any movie). I also loved "The Departed" and the Japanese trilogy it was based on for different aspects the two cultural views gave. I'm just saying this movie isn't possible in the same sense. I'd rather they'd bring something where the core of the story is less Japanese-centric.

I don't know, maybe something cyber-punk like Armitage or Akira? They can also try to make Neon Genesis Evangelion make sense as Gainax failed constantly and takes their like 4th or 5th attempt to make the ending make more understandable and likable to the japanese audience, let alone American Otaku (this is considering the director's cut of the main series, several re-edits of "The End of Evangelion", manga with new perspective, and new movie series with new perspective and new ending).

Oh hell no. Even I didn't think they could mess up Dragonball Z that badly. I mean, aside from the costumes, and the people on weed who decided to make this movie, I thought that maybe it wouldn't be so bad. Maybe there was someone out there with a dream to make a DBZ movie work.

...I was wrong. Terribly, terribly wrong. Why the hell are there guns?! And explosions?! AND A TAXI CAB?!?!?! WHY?!?!?!

Oh, and then of course there's the kiss scene. Don't even get me started on that. Every single god damn American movie has to have some lovin' in it. I wish the director would just realize that WE DON'T NEED SEX IN A GOD DAMN DRAGONBALL MOVIE!!!!!!!

You know, Disaster Movie was exactly what the title said it was. A disaster. And I feel even worse for the directors now, because at least their movie was famous for being the worst movie in the world. But if that Dragonball trailer is anything to go by, then unfortunately, that record may be replaced by this steaming pile of crap that dares attach the label 'Dragonball' to itself.

...Whew. Okay, I'm done with my rant now. Peace.

Okay much like Final Fantasy: Spirit Within you could drop the Final Fantasy and then that movie was awesome as a story but to try and link it into the FF world you simply can't. This could be a decent action movie if you didn't try to make it into an anime that is already super over the top and can't be translated nicely to live action. Oh well got a great laugh out of it at least.

@Đipic: I'm pretty sure I saw a brief scene in the trailer of Roshi training Goku which happens in the original DB, as well as the fact that Piccolo is an enemy, which also occurred in the original. But yeah I'm pretty sure they fucked the age/timeline up, which isn't surprising.

They got it all wrong. They should have given all the money and creative vision to a Hong Kong production movie, team them up with a half decent CG studio, and would have a good movie on their hands. I know it's premature but this smells bad...

@raviadso: It isn't an official version. Like in the way the movie Metro was not actually a Beverly Hills Cop movie. Made in china, but wasn't approved from japan. None of the same character names to avoid lawsuits. The only way it couldn't be sued based on plot was that Dragon Ball is pseudo-based on "Journey to the West", a chinese story.

I agree with TheExiledLeader. What kind of BS claim is "1st Ever Live Action Movie"? Ignoring the trailer itself, that is one of the worst and lamest tagline for a film I have ever seen.

I tried to be neutral when watching it but it was impossible. This film looks bloody awful. Without the dragonball and Goku's dated looking wardrobe, there was nothing remotely DBZ in that trailer. This is quite clearly nothing but another cash cow. I am in shock.

@NeoAkira: good luck. He never has and probably never will. His only diversion from his mangas has been character art for video games. Including his current work on a DragonBall MMORPG. For the most part, he has taken a step away from interpretations of his mangas. This includes Dragonball anime as he had absolutely no involvement with Dragonball GT or most of the dragonball movies.

EWWWWWWWWWWW. I hate how these movie adaptations show very little regard for the actual thing they are adapting. Have they even watched Dragonball, or did they sparksnote it because they were too busy with other things to write a script?

Not only will I not watch this movie, I'll have to buy several boxsets of the actual anime, then pirate the movie when it comes out several time, burn it to DVD, then melt down the DVDs and completely format the drive it was saved on. Then I will watch DBZ the abridged series.
