New James Bond: Quantum of Solace Behind the Scenes Trailer Talks Environments
Posted by Adam Barenblat at 8:30 AM on October 2, 2008
Just as the title says, this latest video from Activision talks about how the developers are translating the environments from the film to the game. Unfortunately, there isn't much to see here in terms of gameplay, but you do get to see a few new locations that you'll encounter. You can expect the game out about two weeks before the movie November 4th.

@MattB92: My girls are begging me for a Wii. My neighbor has one, and it's a blast, I've had nothing but fun screwing around with it. I think this Christmas I will talk to my Wife about getting one. If there is any in stock, that is ;)

aside from some occasionally stiff animation, the in-game stuff is looking fantastic! Looking forward to it.

@BigPanda:
The effect is called "depth of field blur" if I remember correctly.

@homernoy: I'm getting it for Wii so that doesn't matter as much!

@MattB92: Yes, and since it is, they should have used the CryEngine2! But...since they didn't, it's hard to find a better performing engine than the CoD4 engine.

Has anyone noticed that there seems to be a depth of field or focus issue with a lot of games. I mean I know that it's 3rd person which throws a lot of that out of context, but when they were putting the game scene after movie scene it just threw me as to how artificial the worlds were. GTAIV kind of does a decent job with incorporating that haze effect in the distance and I know part of that is to probably save on processing power. But I'm wondering if what I'm talking about could be easily incorporated into more games that are looking for that added realism.
Sometimes the game worlds seem too safe because you can see everything around you too clearly. Real life has that element of the unknown so often that the game world is missing.

Please... please don't hurt me again!
We don't need another "Nightfire" to ruin Bond's good image.

@MattB92: That's what I figured must be the case, still odd that the trailer would show mostly Casino Royale stuff anyways. Though, I suppose if they don't want to spoil stuff from QoS it makes some sense.

@LynkDead: I assume they weren't allowed to show any new footage from the movie.

@LynkDead: They can only show you parts of the game with scenes from Casino Royal, due to any scenes being shown from Quantum of Solace would be spoilers for the Motion Picture, which of course has not been released yet.

I am going to hook up my PC to the 52" HDTV, put in Quantum of Solace the game, and crank all the setting as high as they go. Then I will have to have a couple vodka Martini's while I go after the bad guys.
I know this game has a high probability of turning out very mediocre, but it doesn't stop me from being very excited about this one :p

I'm confused, most of the in-game and in-movie stuff shown is from Casino Royale, not Quantum...

I really hope this game turns out to be good. When Bond is done right as an FPS, it's the best there is.

@MattB92: Oh the battles they could fight, so long as they aren't balanced to their portrayals. Roger Moore would have lazer guns and camp, Sean Connery would be God, and no one would play as George Lazenby.

Those environments seem certainly devoid of people. Please at least make it a tad realistic and have innocent bystanders!
Hell, even make it super-realistic and be able to kill the director/crew. :D

There, I said it.
This new Bond sucks. Crying. Whimpering. Gym Muscles. Falling in love.

@peacefulpony: Read the original novels. This is how Fleming wrote and INTENDED Bond to be. Flawed, borderline depressive, and brutal when frustrated. CR is truer to the source material than any of the films to date.

If the camera ends up spending so much time switching to 3rd person, why do they bother even making it an FPS, they should just go ahead and make it a fully 3rd person action game, there's no reason to make a bond game FPS anymore.

@Kensukevic: Eh, I'd rather it all be in first person. I'm not a fan of the way Daniel Craig looks as Bond. He did a great job with the role, but the less of him I see, the more I can imagine it's a rebirth of Goldeneye.

@peacefulpony: I liked the new Bond movie for what it was. A cool spy action movie. It didn't have the old bond movie feel though... something to be said for cheezy one liners, crazy gadgets and dirty puns.
@Voodoo77: Being like the source material doesn't make it better if the source material is crap, and Flemming's original novels are pretty crappy. I liked the new bond as an action flick, but I'm not sure I want to give up the old fun bond for the brutal, angry and flawed daniel-craig-in-a-tux bond. None of the goofy charm and smoothness of connery, moore or brosnan. More like dalton really...

@JokesJokes: The Dalton era was very underrated in my opinion, I like the more serious Bond and glad the new films are taking that direction. I never, repeat, NEVER want to see the Bond films go back to the pathetic camp joke it was during the Moore era *shudders*
