i'll buy into better multimedia functions, and that's what i'd put my money on. as for a camera? doubtful. even if one does come along, it'll undoubtedly be a glorified light sensor like the useless mic. although there's a lot of potential for putting the two screens on a swivel and letting the camera operate on a swivel. and it better be f'n 16:9.

Wii HD will be announced. It'll come in purple with a pokemon etched on the side and actually be comprised of two Wiis duct taped together. It will have complete VHS playback.

I expect no matter what they will announce, it will not be enough for a great deal of loud-mouthed bitter 'core' gamers on here. I expect some of it will appeal it me, some of it will not and i'll buy what appeals to me, will not buy what does not and my life will go on. I also think that most of the commenters will make me laugh myself silly with their bias, their tunnel vision and there will be reminders every 3 or 4th post from the various trolls and such why so many 'hardcore' gamers are not only irrelevant when it comes to developers and publishers now, but why I welcome this influx of causal gamers who play games for..fun and don't treat them as a lifestyle, a replacement for a lover and see sound viable moves to make profit which may not cater to their selfish asses as bitter betrayals.

Yes tonight, I will look for all of this and more and sadly I don't think i'll be shocked by anything other then how much Kotaku needs a MOAB delivered purging and to go back to private invites. I do hope that i'm proven wrong, but alas, posters before me and after me will only serve to prove me right. I'm betting on a new portable. Too soon to announce a new living room system but the time is ripe for a new portable. The DS has hit the height of all it can do and it is time for a portable gamecube system (as gameboy color was the portable NES to the SNES and Gameboy Advance was the SNES to the N64 and the DS is the N64 of the portable bunch.)

The only question is which media would it use, that could be something grand. If they go with the same distribution channel as Wiiware it would be interesting if they have games small enough to download in a few minutes and basically use ROM carts only link software to systems like they do on Virtual Channel and the Wii.

Other thing they could announce is some extra storage for the Wii which would be really cool but as we all know, Nintendo does not like us geeks who download so many Virtual Channel things that it fills up the memory >.>

I expect to see a new DS - though whether or not it's announced tonight remains to be seen. Whether or not it's the oft rumored "DS Slim" or something more along the lines of the latest speculation is nothing I can predict.

I believe this is happening for several reasons:

• Nintendo has always dropped its hardware prices reluctantly. In spite of an aggressive pricing strategy by Microsoft it's unlikely we'll see a sub-$200 Wii anytime before holiday 2009. Likewise, the DS hasn't seen a significant price reduction in ages and a "hardware refresh" is likely Nintendo's way of continuing to justify the current price point.

• The PSP 3000 has a built-in microphone. Okay...okay...stifle the snickers and hear me out on this one. Think about a game that uses all of the DS' unique functionality...say...The Rub Rabbits. That game has you moving leaves with the stylus, it also has you blowing away parachuters with the mic. Good fun (for some) and totally unique to the DS...until now. And while it's true that no games which utilize the PSP-3000's built in mic in a similar fashion have been announced, the possibility is still there (and will probably be realized by some enterprising publisher unwilling to try and muscle their way in to the DS' already crowded mini-game market).

And while it's by far and away the least popular of the DS' three unique features, the fact remains that those three unique features have now been reduced to two. And if Sony has managed to sell 40 million units without such features what happens when they begin catering directly to the crowd that appreciates them?

• People like...scratch that...LOVE...portable media devices. I don't really have much to add to that beyond during my time living in Osaka a stroll through Den Den Town was very much like walking through a giant Apple (specifically iPod) advertisement. The Japanese (like the rest of the world) were ga-ga for the things...and this was back in 2003-2004, so I can only imagine interest has grown since features like video and products like the iPod Touch have been released.

• It's simply too soon to unveil a DS 2. The system has become so ingrained in this current generation and (much like the PlayStation 2) people are simply unwilling to give it up in favor of a successor. Despite being four years into it's life many would agree that the DS has only just started hitting its peak software-wise, and to release a follow up now would fracture Nintendo's solid, unified market dominance. Sony has already proven that it's tough to be in direct competition with yourself and that barring any other factors it can create some serious roadblocks in the successful debut of new hardware.

Look, Nintendo's not stupid (not anymore at least) and it's probably dawned on them (if they've been paying any attention to their past mistakes and Sony's current ones) that you can't rest on the success of a single system for too long - at least not when you're surrounded by competition. The original Gameboy was as successful as it was in part because it existed without direct competition in any form for the latter half of its life. We're talking about a system that debuted when I was in sixth grade and only made the leap to color when I was a junior in college. If Nintendo attempts such stagnation with the DS, particularly with sharks like Sony in the water (and potentially Apple or Microsoft) they're going to find themselves in a tight spot sooner than any might realize.

After so much rumor hype, it's bound to disappoint. I mean, I hope it'll be something more substantial than the E3 showing, but it won't be breaking news.

I doubt that they'll announce an entire new DS, maybe a peripheral for it, but I remember there was already one of those, that let you play MP3s. But, isn't the DS still selling many, MANY 100's of thousands a month? Why release something new when this is still going so strong?

E3 is a joke anyway. Nintendo has also since apologized for their lack of show. Even without this, their Fall Conference exists for the sole reason of big announcements.

I hope that instead of a new mediaDS (which will probably have crippled media capabilities anyway), they announce some worthwhile games. I've been a Nintendo fan for a long time, but Wii Music, Wii Sports 2, and the innovative Animal Crossing "sequel" left me with nothing to look forward to.

Here's hoping for some Pikmin...

Come on remake! Show me some love! Sadly, it is smelling like going to be another peripheral. Most likely for the DS. Of course that add one will most likely be either separate or buy the DS bundle. Sure will got more realistic waggle, but DS really would benefit for that as well.

I don't think Nintendo is going to announce a new piece of hardware tonight. It would be foolish for them to announce a new DS or Wii tonight because a significant number of people who would otherwise get a Nintendo system this holiday season will instead wait for the new model and therein reduce Nintendo's holiday profits. I think they might announce some new games and maybe some special bundles to entice new customers through the holidays.

Nintendo know that E3 is all fizzled out. Nintendo used to have space world around this time for many years in the past until they stopped somewhere in the Gamecube lifespan. Space World would be were they made many big anouncements that they held back from E3's of old. I believe they will have exciting news for the hardcore tonight.

There is no way Nintendo is going to announce new hardware. Not a new DS model, not a new Wii.

The holiday season starts in just one month. If they announced a new hardware, sales of the soon-to-be-obsolete console would take a hit.

It has to be software, and it's probably a pretty good bet that's it's "good" software (I honestly don't see the problem with Wii Sports 2 or Wii Music).

You yourself knowing how well E3 went over is proof enough. The three console companies were so well covered that it really was a waste that they didn't make any real announcements.

Nintendo will probably go over Animal Crossing and the voice chat thingy and Wii Sports Resort, the different packages of Wii motion plus, and date and price them all.

What I want them to announce is a new core game (i.e. Star Fox) or something I should care about. Unlikely, but you gotta dream big.

E3 has very clearly designated itself as an event for the developers, not for the fans. As such Nintendo unveiled two new peripherals that can be used in the future development of games. That's the idea of E3.

What E3 used to be, what PAX and TGS still are, is no longer important for the event. E3 doesn't receive as much coverage as PAX or TGS and clearly draws less crowds and press, so the question remains: why would any of the big three reveal anything big there?

The only company that did was SE and let's face it, their announcement wasn't even that big. It was just a catalyst for a fanboy crying marathon.

I rather they juwst let me put in two games carts at the same time and a bigger battery that can be easily changed and for haruhi's sake, a battery led indicator that can give you more then just a green light and a red light. maybe a blue light? to tell you the batteries 2/3rd down and/or you have 30mins left or something.

at leased a countdown, sheesh. i never knew how much i can get out of a red light, especially since i'm using a 4800mAh replaced battery....
