Two New Tom Clancy's Endwar Trailers
Posted by Adam Barenblat at 6:30 AM on October 2, 2008
Today we get to take another look at Tom Clancy's Endwar and if you're in the market for a new Odama style voice command strategy game - you might want to keep your eye on this one. The first video covers command points and explains how the more you acquire, the more mission command can offer you support in case you get yourself in a bind. The second video has explosions, tons of explosions! In the event that all else fails, defcon 1 is triggered and you can nuke your enemy back to the stone age. You can pick it up November 4th on PS3, PSP, Xbox 360 and DS. Second video after the jump.

Does anyone think this title is kinda copying a really old game called 'Z'. It had like three robots and crazy good cutscenes. In that you had to take control points in order to get more troops. It was AWESOME! They were going to make a second... but i dont think it ever eventuated.... ahhh the gaming memories.

I did the beta, and I really did not like it. Very glad I didn't have to pay anything to find that out.
I stuck with it and kept playing to hold up my end of the bargain, though.

Sadly does nothing for me... Let me play as my own country but not in DLC and we'll talk!

And no worries England! My friend has a strong British accent and it worked well for him too. I thought it would be crappy like the supposed voice controls for the old Rainbow Six that ended up blowing.

I so much want this, but I'm still on the fence about how this game will play out. That and the fact that there are like 4 other games I want coming out in the same time period. How are you guys/girls leaning on how this game will be?

Also a Beta player, and it was surprisingly well done and natural. It made me even more excited to play.

@marlblank: I think I heard somewhere that theres only going to be 12 or so voice commands, so training might not even be necessary if the different commands are distinct enough one from the next.
Lets just hope it works or this game is going to be pointless.

@3lias: Sorry bout that i actually didn't pay attention to the trailer first time round,i really like the idea behind the WMD's but i cant see how it'll do much more than give them a beat me for free card.

It seems like the game is pretty limited and rigid in what it lets you do and when. I guess that might be because of the voice system needing to keep things simple, but I'm just not feeling it.
Also, wtf is with those WMDs? Way to work buzzwords into your game to make it seem more legit. Those are not even weapons of mass destruction, maybe the vacume bomb, kinda. What about germs? What about chemicals? What about Nuclear?
Bah...

These look a lot like world in conflict.
God damn, I still need to get me a multiplayer key on that game if I can find it in stores again :p.
For endwar, it would seem cool if the voice recognition would work. I hope that they put in an option to train a system to your voice. Then again, for high end (and actually working systems) you need to read at least three hours worth of text to train a system. Since this is using short commands, I think it won't take so long.
Still, you need to be able to recognize people when they are stressed or have a cold. I'll be looking at how this plays out :p.

I believe this will be worth playing solely for the voice controls (assuming the recognition doesn't suck).

I haven't been following this game, but those videos remind me of World in Conflict. Endwar looks nice, but I think they have to do more to differentiate it from World in Conflict for me to pick it up.

@XbhaskarX: The only reasonable thing I could think of, is that "winning" is the defending side, and "losing" is the attacking side. Obviously the Europeans wouldn't nuke Paris or something like that, unless another country already destroyed it in some way.

XbhaskarX
Posted 7:19 AM 2/10/08
Once the "losing side" has used a WMD, the "winning side" is "authorized" to use a retaliatory WMD?
What the hell is with these weird and arbitrary rules?

@StartingAces: Yeah, same here. It just didn't do anything for me and despite voice recognition being a cool feature for the first couple of minutes. I found it quickly got tiring and just reverted to the dpad.

lol, that thing gets a Teen rating. See, kids, if you see a nipple, that'll destroy your morals for life. But killing a bunch of thousand people in a glorious WMD strike, that's the harmless fun you were looking for!
I mean children will play it whatever they print on these boxes (I always did). It's just a nice snapshot of the current mentality when it comes to war games.
At least Europe got stile... we use LAZERS!

@adamr999: In your opinion. After the Beta I haven't really looked at End War. It was boring and there are far more promising games around the corner. The voice command works well but it's really a novelty rather than a necessity because it's easier to use the dpad for commands.

@DevCo: This is the 'future'. Those are WMDs that are made to have less collateral damage. And the American kinetic energy weapon is something the Pentagon is trying to build (they say that about a lot of things of course) called the Sword of Damocles. Nukes and germs are old hat.

This game looked interesting from the get-go. Along with confirmed nods that the voice recognition works well, I say that this is the most unique strategy game to come out in a while. I know unique != good, but the game idea is really the easiest way to release a strategy title on consoles. If only I had a 360..../sigh.

@XbhaskarX: I like that a player needs to consider his/her objectives before deploying their WMDs. Just because someone uses theirs on you doesn't mean you need to respond. Alternatively, just because you're losing does not mean you should obliterate your own major cities. Scorched earth isn't the only policy, after all.
Not that it matters, because everyone is going to use them all the time anyway...unless they actually carry penalties. Which they won't. Because god-forbid players have consequences for their actions.

2 things: ESRB rating - Suggestive Content? In a future-war RTS? How/why?!
Also, I don't get why voice recognition is cool. Sure it's fun to start with, being able to order units around just by speaking, but who can honestly see themselves sat in their lounge speaking to their TV for hours at a time? Why not just use quiet buttons that don't make you feel like an ass when a family member walks in to you repeating 'Echo 3, go!' over and over at the screen?
