I think there's a pretty good reason why this wasn't shown in e3...
The reason is
TGS >>>>>>> E3

SWEET!
I loved Super Star Saga and Partners in Time. Hope this will be just as long as the other ones.

From the logo shown at the end of this video, I think it's safe to assume this game wasn't ready to show off in time for E3. Even now it seems like they could have waited to announce it (because we probably aren't going to get it until late 2009).

I wish they'd go back to the 1st game's map system where the places were actually connected to each other like a traditional RPG.

I'd really love to make some kind of joke about them releasing their trailer on "last-gen hardware" or some such, but I'm just too tired to be witty. Readers, please make up your own funny joke of that ilk and chuckle to yourself now, thankyou.

Since the SNES Mario RPG, its very hard for me not to play these titles.
But they are still nothing compared to the Sqaresoft creation!!!

I loved partners in time even though I dont have it, but Im surely getting this one with the DSi cause its awesome. Im wondering if the stylus will be used for something else than just cleaning a single note in the entire game.....
I hope not cause it was good that way.

I adored Superstar Saga, one of the VERY few turn-based RPGs I enjoyed.

I timed Partners in Time, from the start until I stopped receiving tutorials on how to play one of the most basic RPGs I've ever encountered. 35 minutes. That was me frantically smashing the 'skip' button during dialogue.
35 in game minutes.
No thanks.

I completed the first GBA title, but avoided Partners in Time due to less-than-enthusiastic critical reception (too easy, not quite as good as the first) and... of course... the "baby mario" and "baby luigi" factor. Does anyone know if they WAA like the SNES version of Yoshi's Island? I just don't know if I could take that for (let's face it) fifteen hours.

Basic isn't the right word; yes, it takes a minimalist approach, but that's intentional, the focus being on the innovative twist on the genre, not on it being a hardcore rpg.

DO WANT.
These Mario RPG games are one of the sole reasons why I still care about Nintendo. Superstar Saga was a phenomenal game, Partners in Time was good too, but definitely not as good as the first one. Regardless I absolutely cannot wait for this game. I'm also a huge fan of the Paper Mario games, so I hope they have a new game in that series in the works that is actually an RPG this time.

@AZRoboto: They're completely different games, mainly because Squaresoft (obviously) isn't involved anymore. The battle system is similar though - you're still using timed button presses and special attacks are still based on the same concept.
The main difference is, its entirely 2D, and oh god, they have Fawful. All hail Fawful!

@Sustenance: The babies might annoy you at first, but they're implemented into the games combat system very well. The game also has a lot of great puzzles that involve the two sets of brothers splitting up, individually being navigated across the two screens. Any unenthusiastic reviews were because it was still similar, and doesn't utilize the touch screen at all (a big "WHY AREN'T YOU USING THIS" issue back then), but I recently finally got around to playing it, and I definitely enjoyed it. Great game, especially compared to a lot of average stuff you can find on DS.

I didn't like Partners in time, I don't know why, but it just felt stale when I was trying to play through the 2nd time. I prefer the original, I might end up checking this one out and selling it probably, I miss the bros. moves, I didn't like having to buy a ton of items to do a ton of damage.

Really looks good, but a lot more of the same from the other games. I think the second changed things up a lot with the four players, which I thought was a ton of fun. This doesn't look like much will be different other than playing as Bowser. That's fun and all, but I already got to do it in Super Paper Mario. I counted on the Mario & Luigi series to give me something different than Paper Mario. I hope I'm proved wrong.
