New Cars For Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
Posted by Mike Fahey at 12:20 AM on October 4, 2008
PlayStation 3 racing fans are advised to hop into Gran Turismo 5 Prologue today, where a game update adds three new cars to the game's stable, along with various gameplay tweaks to help tighten up the experience. The three new rides include the Ferrari California will go for 300,000 credits, the Lotus Evora for 100,000 credits, and finally the Citroen GT, weighing in at a hefty 1,000,000 credits.
Along with the new cars comes difficulty tweaks for races, increased rewards for winning, and some changes to the penalty system that I, as someone who has yet to take advantage of the highly-priced demo, couldn't possibly understand. Hit the link for more details, or just turn on your PS3 and load up the game, which I am sure will explain everything.

@asahn: Concur. With such a focus on physics, it needs bump physics as well. If not full on damage, such as in Grid. Or Nascar.
Actually, yes, Nascar. Nascar car physics with GT driving physics would make the ultimate racing game.

As a huge fan of the Gran Turismo series, I'm completely underwhelmed. The first bit of software I bought for the PS3 was Prologue... And I'm still getting the sense that it's a shame that I'm paying for a glorified demo (that is undeniably visually astonishing one of the greatest things witnessed thus far in 1080p) so many things feel incredibly last gen, from the way opponents cars interact with you to the lack of any sort of attempt at damage. The game rewards you for too many stupid moves, like bumping off of walls or AI cars. After all this time the only addition are three cars that I'd have to grind to even sample and a PPV channel that I have no interest in.

@Shrimp:
Go race online (it earns big cash purses even for podium positions) and don't expect to get a new car in every sitting. Took me about a week to get that much playing about 2 hours a day.

As much as I absolutely love the GT series, I'm afraid GT5P is simply too much of a grindfest to be very entertaining. The rate at which you earn credits, the prices of the vehicles, and the limited selection of events simply make earning those 1 400 000 required credits ridiculously boring and extremely tedious.

I really don't understand what is taking this game so long. The Prologue is nice but it's nothing that is so spectacular as to make a case for all the delay. It looks really good but what driving game doesn't nowdays?
Anywho, that Citrogen is badass. /want

I'm still bitter over not being able to mod my car the old, and more fun way. I hope the full version doesn't leave me with the same bad taste in my mouth.

@Vectortuff: Well, with the way you attack things without prior knowledge of the subject you're referring to, then yeah, they probably do think we're just dumb Americans.
Polyphony Digital is a development team. GT5 Prologue is essentially a beta GT5. They're all working on it. And don't expect a much different experience for the full version. You're going to get maybe 100 to 200 cars and 20 to 30 tracks and then, over time, free DLC will add more cars and tracks and features to the game.

@Setzer IIDX: Nascar damage modeling, yes. Nascar physics no. I've yet to see a Nascar game emulate the types of aerial crashes we see at the super speedways.

@Vectortuff:
All of this new content will be in the full GT5. Quit your new whining. The same team working on this game is also working on the full GT5.

What in the holy hell is that thing in the top picture? If that's a car, then someone should fire the designer.
And as far as Prologue goes, it's only for the smallest percent of GT fans, those of us who, like me, have to have a next gen GT experience. I bought it, played it, grinded just like I did in ever GT game, and put it away.
Now I have another reason to play it again.
You see, this is the kind of DLC I like to see. Free updates that add another wrinkle to the gameplay. Polyphony Digital should be applauded for not charging for this, unlike the car packs for Forza 2. It adds value to the purchase.
Yes, I know, it's a glorified demo, but obviously some people are getting enjoyment out of it. I mean, 6 million + people play WoW but I personally hate the game along with just about any other MMO type experience. Just because I hate WoW doesn't mean I have to rag on others because they play it.

@tlozwarlock: Gotta second that - to each there own. I play the "glorified demo" a lot more than other full games because I like the racing. Free cars and little updates are great.

I really like to play GT5P online. I do it with friends and we always have a blast with the Driving Force. Also, getting new cars every autoshow is just awesome. Seeing the 3 cars rolling out of the van with very GTish music just made my day. That being said, I too can't wait for the real game to come out. At least we'll all get to keep our cars and money!

@Kaneda: On the DualShock3, the right stick controls the camera. So when you're in the cockpit view(or any view), just move the stick in any direction.

@ShirtGuyDom: It's cool isn't it? I think you we were always allowed to do that. The wheel has a specific button for it, but I think you have to go in the options and remap the controls if you want to do it when playing with a controller. I'm not so sure since I never did that though.

@Sandvich: They're working on GT5 and trying to make it perfect. Right now they're updating GT5:P as their priority because it kind of shows who they're bigger fans are. Those are the people that they'd rather support, not potential fans.

@FIRST!!!: Oh wait so does that mean that you can also look around the car if you are using the outside view when playing with a controller? I might have missed that since I never really played this game with the dualshock. Must be mint though. I'll check when I have time.

I just want to know why this is my only ps3 game that won't let me play it unless I am online wtf? Sometimes I want my 360 online and ps3 offline and no I am not going to buy a router I should be able to play the offline part without signing in. It's just like my 360 arcade games I can't play unless signed in.
