Except in LBP cas its creative control. Take Legos. Why are they so appealing? Because you can build them into whatever you want. While the main basis for them is to build houses, cars... etc.. you don't have to, you can make whatever you want with them. This is sorta what LBP is. It's like the 'Legos' of video games.

I spent a week and a half trying to get into the beta, I finally get in today and I got bored of the game just after 10 mins of playing. Also playing online with other people is very laggy, I hope they fix it before the game is released. Houston we have a problem, Ninja and roller coaster levels were cool, GTA level didn't load up for me and I couldn't find the penis level.

@cringer8: I am going to have to agree with other. I am 18 and I really don't get the big deal with LBP. Yeah, it is a very wide open "game" that allows users to create unique environments and scenarios, but no matter what it will be restricted to a 2-D platformer. Sure the textures and godly realistic, really, but it just seems like a 2D Garry's mod for consoles. However, I am still being open on the sole fact that fans can do amazing things. What Halo 3 fans have done in Forge, creations in Spore, and the uncountable PC mods is truly unpredictable and I expect LBP to get the same treatment.

I would love to make a Disney themed level. I have been working on a level for 3 days now and I don't want to launch it before I get all the bugs out and make sure everything runs perfectly. I don't care if it even makes it in time for the last day of the BETA. I really just wanted the BETA to learn how to use the creative tools and to get a feel of what people are doing and for the most part I am not impressed. I know there will a few good level designers but I think it will be only about 10% of the people that buy LBP will creat great content and the rest will be shovel-lvls-ware..lol
I want the Disney content so I can make family friendly game levels. Also the content will be official so you know it will look awsome. P.S. Why are the BETA servers down so much..lol Anyways Yeah to Disnet DLC and , Nay to down servers :-(

I didn't want to sit in front of the TV and listen to some guy explain to me how to play the game. I am the kind of person who jumps in at the deep end straight away, to hell with tutorials and instruction booklets.

Let me give you an example, when I bought Oblivion, I've done about half of Fighter's guild, got my mage's staff from mage's guild and got as far as getting the quest for Azura's star, (it was about 15hrs of game play) all at level 1, and then I found out that you need to go to sleep if you want to level up in that game.(I went up by like 7 levels)

Sorry, but there is a plot in LBP. I guess this comes with the misconception that LBP isn't actually a "game", but LBP actually does have a single player story mode, complete with 50-60 levels. You don't HAVE to create anything if you don't want to.

And let me say this, I'm in the beta. Even for a beta, this game is already offering limitless content, and it's amazing the kind of stuff people are creating. Nope, that lame "SMB level" Kotaku posted a while ago doesn't even SCRATCH the surface. I'm talking mechanical dragons, shadow of the colossus recreation, things that aren't EVEN platforming, LBP is a canvas for your mind and much more. 1up had their hands on with the beta and enjoyed it, Gamespot, go and visit gaf and you'll see hundreds of pages of purely positive impressions.

LBP is certainly a game that some people have to *play* to understand. Some people just won't get it from the demo. I can't count how many times I've heard of people saying they didn't understand the hype, but tried the beta and are now buying it day one. This is why I'm hoping Sony can at least get out a demo before the game's release, they'd definately bag a lot of sales this way.

I never said it was a bad game, I just said it's actual design is made more for a kid friendly approach and has no real adult content so I wouldn't call it an adult game but a mass appeal game. You don't have to get defensive about it.

I can't judge the quality cos I've not played it but I'm not that interested in sitting around making stuff unless I can literally make whatever I want. Reconstructions of anime worlds would be my ideal but it's a 2D side scrolling platformer so it's kinda limited in the 3D adventuring side which is all I'd care about. It's like trying to put god of war 2D.

Well first of all, the latter part of my post wasn't meant for you, so I wasn't really being defensive. All that was meant for your post was that yes, LBP does have a single player mode with levels. And a simple "plot" or story, and while loose it's not like it's a completely scattered game. And with that logic I guess most platformers don't have stories at all. Mario - save the princess. Crash bandicoot - defeat evil genius. In any case, not all games have to have a strong story in order to be considered good.

And while LBP might have an outer mask that appeals childish, don't let that fool you. In fact, I think kids will mostly stick to just playing levels in the story mode or other people's levels (and they still would be getting a lot out of the game, mind you), because while the creation tools are intuitive, they take some getting used to, and a good creation could take hours and hours, which I don't see little kids applying.

And again, you don't really have to make anything to enjoy this game. Theres 50 developer levels out of the box, and people's levels will make sure you always have something to go back to each day. Believe me, I haven't created a level yet in the beta, yet I've been playing LBP for 8 hours straight for about 4 days now.

Again, I don't know how you think my post was defensive, as it wasn't even directed toward you. Just the first part. I guess I made it seem that way by quoting you, sorry.

So I took that to be directed at me where as it wasn't. The problem is that I like good stories so if I get a simple save the princess story then I can't imagine pushing through more than 10 hours without more happening. This game isn't plot heavy so I don't really care about the plot I was just curious of what it was.

I agree with you on the appeal as I like anime which is cartoons but directed at older people so I guess I'll agree with you on that point about age but I wouldn't say it's for older gamers, just stick to the same thing of saying it's got mass appeal.

It´s a really good idea from a marketing point, since it´ll push a lot of disney fans who didn´t think of buying LBP to start considerating it, i think i´ll do no harm...Or has the doritos/7eleven/yaris marketing in XBLA ever hurted you??

@Sutekh: I'm 29 and I've been playing the beta. I was in the same boat as you were, but as soon as I got my hands on the game and ran through some of the level editing tutorials, I was blown away. This is not an ordinary platformer.

If you've ever doubted or hated a game before you played it, which I'm sure you have, then tried it to see and found out it was one of the coolest games you've come across (I can name Guitar Hero for myself) then this game falls in that category. You'll just have to give it a try to see what it's all about.

@Llost: DustySword, I hear you when you say "it's kinda limited in the 3D adventuring side", but I just have to chime in and say, once again like everyone else who has played the beta, this is something you need to check out before you can put it on the back burner and say it's not for you.

I was blown away with the amount of customization available. You might not be able to create "3D Environments" but what you can create is limited only by you imagination. Literally. You can build anything you can imagine. It might not be a fully 3D environment that you can run all directions in, but it will be YOUR vision of what you wanted to create.

I almost hate saying this, because I already said it and it's been repeated a thousand times, but you truly just have to at least rent this game and try it out. It's one of those games that can only be understood once you've played it a bit.

@Llost: Jeez, what games from this generation do you play?
In my opinion, the only games with great stories from this gen are MGS4, Bioshock, GTA4 to some extent, and the Half-life 2 series.

Believe me, I want better stories, but there aren't many out now.

huh? And agreed, LBP is a game that ultimately has to be played to really get what it's all about. I haven't felt the same way about a game in a long time.
