The Conduit Already has MotionPlus, WiiSpeak, Sequel
Posted by Owen Good at 4:00 AM on October 5, 2008
High Voltage chief operating officer Eric Nofsinger told MTV Multiplayer that The Conduit, due out March 2009, will support MotionPlus and WiiSpeak, and alludes to an already-planned sequel that will make greater use of those capabilities.
"We're hooking it [MotionPlus] up," Nofsinger told Multiplayer. "We want to support it. Probably for this version of the game there's not going to be a whole ton of really extensive use of the Wii MotionPlus. For the sequel to the game, we definitely do want to incorporate more melee and things like that. We want to support it."
Earlier this month, reports said High Voltage would push to start work on a sequel once they got a publisher for the first, and that an announcement of the publisher should be coming soon.

No. Nintendo made a mistake during the Conference by referring to The Conduit as a "First-party game".
In addition, High Voltage Software said that it has found a publisher but it is not yet able to announce who it is due to legal reasons. It said we'll probably have to wait another 1-2 weeks for the announcement.

DANGA' DANGA' HIGH VOLTAGE! I dunno, hard for me to imagine FPSs on the Wii being good. The idea of using the wii-mote too aim the gun is solid, but in practice, it's like walking around with an invisible brick wall with a window in the center for you to shoot out of. I know it's a bad example, but Red Steel just left a bad taste in my mouth.

Please please please have the aiming system from CoD3 or atleast the option for it. I hate the Red Steel way of aiming and it looks like the Conduit has it (move all the way to the right or left to move that direction).
CoD3 had the aiming system of a invisible box in the middle of the screen and if you moved near the edges your guy would look around.
Or Metroid Prime 3. I forgot what that had. :\

Nintendo publishing this would their way of announcing that they are for supporting true gaming efforts.
And, looking at this article, how have they not already given it a go? For crying out loud, this game is using both the WiiSpeak and the MotionPlus. Nintendo needs a way to sell this to their customers, and this is the way to do so. The Conduit could not only serve as an example of quality third party productions, but a show of the benefits of their peripherals.

Too many glitches, too many dropped games and the overall quality was pathetic. Bad animations, bad character models, bad collision detections. It was total trash. I nearly fell out laughing when I saw a player snipe a guy on a rooftop from a good 60 feet away with a shotgun. Dude was coming out of a barn down the pass and shot the guy dead. @Swift_: I have my doubts how true High Voltage's intentions really are. The game's not even out yet, but there's a sequel already planned? Will we have to wait for the sequel to get Split-Screen or Co-op? If that's the case, I'll pick up this game when it drops to the bargain bin and go for the sequel.
It's like the day one DLC, it's just plain lazy and I'll have no part in developers shortchanging us features that should have been included in the first place.
These supposed Wii developers are shortchanging Wii owners the same way the HD developers are.
Wii games not from Nintendo are 5 hour affairs like their HD brethren.
Wii games not from Nintendo lack either split-screen, co-op, online multi and/or a combination of one or more of the three.
I'm not going to take it!!! Why should I settle for no 4 player split-screen, a standard set by bloody Goldeneye 64 over a decade ago?
Wii games, due to their easier and cheaper development should be far longer, include more features and be more local-multiplayer focused then their HD brethren.
The Conduit devs sound just like HD devs in cutting corners.

That's good news. At least some other developers and games are making use of MotionPlus, as Nintendo haven't said anything about it aside from Wii Sports 2.
With Wii Speak support, all they have to do is make sure that online functions well with plenty options to choose from (something Brawl suffers from). I'd like Nintendo to publish, but they're strict with online FCs and contact between players, so it may ultimately affect the game. I can see them marketing the game well however, and maybe HVS have stood their ground with what they want online play to achieve...

Nintendo buy these guys. Shame Activision is publishing... wait no... its not... Third party hit? YAY!!!
The game really jumped up in graphic and is comparable to some 360 games on non HDTVs. The gameplay looks like a tighter version of Halo crossed with metroid prime and old school FPS games.
Motions plus makes me really want a sequel light sabers in Conduit fit in. Wii Speak seems awesome... well for the Wii.
Really the weapons and graphics from the gameplay I seem seem great. They seem like what I was expecting from the Wii.
The only thing I can say is I hope the put more brightly glowing spots and reflections on the enemies to make the graphics seem stronger. Aside from that its graphics are comparable to Halo3 with a better art style, more diversity, stronger graphics in certain aspects with smaller enviroments and no vechicles.
I mean to say this game rocks and Halo 3 might have worked on the Wii and Gears kicks its ass.
This may set the Wii up for FPS games.. I was a Metroid Prime Hunters type game on the Wii... these guys might be able to do it.

@mlubczyk:
I'll agree with you on the split-screen.
There is no real reason that an FPS nowadays should not have a multiplayer mode. It's a staple of the genre. In fact, it's why most people buy them.
However, getting upset at the thought of a planned sequel is unfair. Granted, they were dumb to say it, but there is rarely a series in which a sequel isn't planned during production of the current game. Many times, it's because the developer comes up with ideas that they'd love to do, but would either hinder the current production schedule or feel too forced and ruin the quality. Look at MGS4. [kotaku.com]
Also, how the hell can you accuse a developer of cutting corners and denying features when they could easily have ignored MotionPlus and WiiSpeak altogether for this and put it in the sequel without trying?

The best news about the sequel is that they've already announced that it'll have vehicles. As for the comments about it being a 'generic' FPS game, having generic FPS games certainly hasn't done the 360 any harm lololol.
One minute people are saying that they need 'hardcore' games, the next minute they're complaining about an exceptional looking sci-fi FPS game featuring expected 16 player online goodness at a smooth 30fps (at least!) framerate without split-screen multiplayer lol. What more do you people want?!!?
Really, who gives a monkey's about split-screen or co-op bollocks when you have a great looking FPS game that's guaranteed to control like a dream if Metroid Prime 3 and Medal of Honor Heroes 2 are anything to go by. Add to that the fact that High Voltage Software are also working on allowing users to rearrange their HUD to their own personal liking, and I'd say you've got a quality game on the horizon that's going to be a strong candidate for Game of The Year 2009.

@MattB92: I'm speculating that Nintendo isn't the publisher, actually. The whole reason they developed the game without a publisher is to avoid letting the publisher meddle with the game, ultimately watering down the game's vision.
And Nintendo totally has a history of meddling, so... there you go. I wouldn't be surprised if EA published it, honestly. They've got the core gamer audience, they support the Wii, and a lot of developers have recently signed publishing deals, saying EA seemed to be the most hands-off (despite the reputation they've earned in the past decade).
