I'm not sure about this. I thought 2 was FAR better than 3. 2 was the best console fps of last gen IMO, while 3 seemed like a cross between 2 and a poor Halo wannabe.

I also think they're trying too hard with the monkey jokes. In 2 the joke was that there was a monkey to play as. That was it and it was great. Now its monkey this and monkey that. Getting very old.

Not only that but since 3 they subjected us to Haze, and so my confidence in the once great Timesplitters series isn't very high i'm afraid.

I really want Timesplitters 4 to be brilliant again, but I won't keep my hopes too high.

Meh. The last TS game I played was 2, and while it was okay, I always felt it was just sort of a meh FPS. That probably had more to do with the fact that doing some of the missions was a receipt for controller snapping frustration, as well as some of the challenges to unlock stuff were just downright sadistic.

I guess part of me just feels that they're trying far to hard to be funny. But anyways, one can hope for good things.

I picked up TimeSplitters 2 just because it was in Shaun of the Dead. Thanks to that movie I have become a huge fan of the series and now own 2 + Future Perfect.

@Salen: Give future perfect a try. The challenges are more fun and while some of them are pretty hard they are much less frustrating. The story is also much more fleshed out.

I like to think that the only reason Free Radical made HAZE was to learn about the PS3 (back when other developers were busy bitching about how hard making games for it supposedly was instead of actually trying) and also to learn what NOT to do with TS4.

TS2 and TS3 were great, so I see good things in the future for TS4.

@Combichristoffersen: The other TimeSplitters games were just tongue-in-cheek FPSes. Future Perfect was the first one to really directly parody anything, but it seemed to take on movies more than games like this one is.

I cannot wait for TS4. If it's on PS3 I'll buy a PS3 for it.

@mind in rewind: Even so, it was always planned on the PS3. Most developers already proclaim how much easier it is to make games for the 360, so maybe Free Radical decided to take the road less traveled.

Don't get me wrong, I don't expect TS4 to be exclusive either. I'd be happy with in on any platform so long as one is the PS3. I just think it was one of those tasks (and maybe one of those games) they just had to get out of their system before getting back to the good stuff.

We need a good unique-to-console FPS with both solid SINGLE and MULTIPLAYER (level editor optional, but always welcome!) that doesn't solely emphasize some next-gen gfx engine over gameplay quality (I'm lookin at you, Unreal 3) and/or that wasn't just a 2nd choice placement after the PC (I'm lookin at you, Valve/Orange Box).

I absolutely love timesplitters. Unabashed straight up fun. I have really high hopes for this game... If they can just put some sweet next-gen flava on the time splitters formula it should be great. The time splitters series has always been worth it for the silly challenges alone. These games define simple pick-up-play-and-forget fun but it definitely needs some innovation to be competitive with other shooter games.

I don't know that I've ever laughed so much at a vidjagame as I did with future perfect here's hoping the campaign is just as crazy as usual.

@flukielukie: @everybest: ...They were both on the PS2. And Timesplitters 2 was much better than 1, because of smoother controls, better level design, improved multiplayer and so forth. The game was probably the smoothest FPS at the time.

@flukielukie: The first one is the one that was on N64? If so, then that's the only one I've played. If 2 was on the N64 too, then I still think I've only played the first one. It was fun to play multiplayer with friends, but only when we needed a break from Goldeneye :)

But, I can't really get what's going on in the series. Just played the second one and I was like playing "Goldeneye without James Bond", even the music was identical to the N64 game.

I know it was made from Free Radical, but at least the series needed to have its own image.

@Spidery_Yoda: I also had 2 and 3 for GCN. I loved the GCN controller back then too... but stopped playing after switching to PS2 (when slim came out) and eventually to PS3. I tried going back to TS2 on the GCN a few months ago and I didn't realize how handicapping and inaccurate the controller really was.

I then picked up TS3 for PS2, and it felt a hell of a lot more comfortable in my hands. I guess my brain has erased it's memory of the GCN controller. All for the best... Dualshock is all I use now.

TimeSplitters 2 is the best console FPS there's been. 3 was a great game too, if a little rushed. Fanboys don't take these games seriously because the story is silly and the characters are a joke. But what IS to be taken seriously is the amazing gameplay. Free Radical has been releasing amazing follow-ups to their GoldenEye and Perfect Dark 1 (yes, they made those too) for years, but the masses just pick up Halo because it's aliens, soldiers, and testosterone. I'll take more fluid gameplay and more variety any day. I can't wait for this game.
