I keep on getting "COG TAG Missing" on all but two so apparently more codes need to be entered. All I have seen so far an a simple .gif image and some concept art.

I was super pumped about GoW2. And I still probably will be once I get my hands on a copy. But after playing lbp its started to seem like (and everything else too for that matter) its all the same schtick again and again.

With the industry so big now it's all about money, money, money. Hence this viral marketing and publishers playing it "safe" by releasing same old action shooter after samer old action shooter.

At least some of these shooters (like GoW2) are actually enjoyable and welcome distraction until the next innovative title.

I noticed that if you copy paste the url of the site into the code thing it turns it into a code. But then it asks for a security code and then name. Won't accept a random name though.. :(

Okay, I scanned the whole environment, and this cog tag enabled three things to interact with. The first is the arcade cabinet lookind device which gives you this pretty sweet wallpaper, and the other two are the crimson symbols that tell you when a cog tag is near. Each of these give a picture, one with the slogan "Stomp Em' Dead!", and the other saying "Join the Cog". Awesome!

@kazemizuhi: Gears of war was a new take on shooting in itself. To expect it to have no sequels is a bit dumb since it's been so successful. If you want new stuff then try new stuff but sequels are always good because they let you play tried and tested high quality game play mechanics again and are often more polished.

I can understand people liking LBP but if you just wanted new stuff and the old stuff didn't interest you then why not just get a Wii?

@Llost: New take on shooting? Like Killswitch? Hey, I really enjoy GOW and will most likely enjoy GOW2, but it wasn't a new take as much as a very successful packaging of multiple gameplay mechanics that had existed beforehand.

1 wallpaper called "ascii1of2".
3 COG Posters with a COG soldier on them.

@kagai: I love it when people throw around Killswitch and Winback to discredit GOW. Did you even play Kill switch? Kill switch may have implemented a cover system before gears, but the mechanic sucked. The game as a whole sucked. GOW may not have invented the cover system, but it was the first game to use it well.

Just found some wallpapers. Look for a gears logo and click on it, it will automatically download a .zip file.

Wow, I just got lucky... kinda.

And you're then prompted for a name.... every name I enter kicks me back to the start.
(But then I've only tried 2 so far before coming here to share my discovery.)

I snagged two things of interest from the source code, both XML files:

First, it seems not all of the content is unlocked yet:

Second, a list of links for content:

It seems most of the MP3 links don't work, but the images and flash videos do. You copy the URL fields after "http://gearsofwar.xbox.com/lastday/".

so it you type in the url that they give you into google:
gearsofwar.xbox.com/lastday/

you get the site easter egg manifest. so take the unlocked icon that you get in the first part, erase the url up to the word 'download' and fill in the rest of the url. it works for the pics (i clicked on one of the derrick), but not for the mp3s.

lol i did this by mistake, but if you type gearsofwar.xbox.com/lastday/ into google, the first thing for me to click on gave me the site "easter egg" manifest. so what i did was put in the passcode or whatever on the site, and got the first .gif icon. i took that url and copied it into the search box (so the [www.microsoft.com])part and then filled in the blanks with the other half of the download urls (if that makes sense)

for example, [www.microsoft.com]

this gives you a pick of the derrick (1 of 3)

it doesnt give you the mp3 files for some reason, but the pics ive tried all work.
