A 'Left 4 Dead' LEGO Zombie Apocalypse In Pictures
Posted by Michael McWhertor at 4:40 PM on October 7, 2008
If you happened to miss this weekend's Brickcon 2008 in Seattle, as we unfortunately did, you missed the appearance of the "Zombie Apocafest" project. It was one part Left 4 Dead, one part The Big Lebowski and two parts LEGO. It was also 6.8 parts awesome, with a massive zombie-filled scene of Left 4 Dead-style destruction, featuring copious amounts of LEGO gore.
The four stars of Valve's undead packed co-op shooter wage war against custom zombie hordes in brick form, photographic evidence of which can be further explored at the official Left 4 Dead blog. It's your best nerd-value dollar, we swear.

Well, it is impressive. But what distinguishes it from a normal zombie drama scene? I mean, besides the L4D sign?
Oh yeah, that little Presented by Left 4 Dead tag? Disturbing.

@kakihara: Yeah, that's some subtle advertising if I've ever seen any. Then again, I guess you can blog about whatever you want/are paid to want. There are no rules!

A zombie LEGO game is the first LEGO game I would strongly consider buying. All out action zombie brick war, and you could take the parts of the dead zombies, and use them to beat other zombies. And if you play as a Zombie, then you can take the parts of the defeated humans and mix-and-match them to create more zombies. Oh, the possibilities...

@Foxstar Sixtail: Which is why i took it upon myself to make all sorts of tanks and helicopters out of all those old ROCK RAIDERS sets when they fell apart from being blown apart too much. Ah, the memories...

It blows my mind just thinking about it.

@excaliburps:Lego tries very, very hard to keep a family friendly image. Zombies don't fit.

Anyone here who thinks this is the next Lego game? Not saying it's going to be based off of L4D. It can be zombie-filled without tying into any other franchise.
I played Legos when I was a kid but I admit I was never this creative with them...

Ah, Legos. Childhood fantasy made true with a few bricks and an extremly overactive imagination.

@Ad-hominem:
Advertising keeps blogs like Kotaku alive. I don't see how this is disturbing at all, considering that Coors Light had brief sponsorship here, and they even wove that into the theme of the site. This is no different than watching commercials on television.

Anyone have any info on where they got some of those custom bits? The weapons look like BrickArms, but I'm not sure where they got actual flesh-tone heads/hands.

@Ad-hominem: So, heres what is essentially a childrens toy depicted with a dude lying in a puddle of his own lego blood blocks, the horribly disfigured dead rising again to feast on the brains of the living and four survivors holding little toy guns to protect said little lego brain and the only thing you find "disturbing" is a little advert? Man have you got some twisted priorities there mate!

@excaliburps:
Nope. Word is they already have another LSW in the pipeline, and they're currently one movie behind on LIJ with Lucas already looking for McGuffin #5. A friend of mine suggested that a LEGO Agents game might be a good move. He might be right, but they can't wait on something like that for too long or the theme might be past its peak by the time the game hits.

@Dragoonkin:
What custom heads/hands? All the licensed themes switched over to fleshies in 2004, including Star Wars, Batman, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Ferrari, and the last bit of Spiderman. Looking at the photo, Bill is Obi-Wan, Louis is Lando, Francis is Professor Karkaroff, and Zoey is the dual-sided awake/asleep Hermione, with fleshie hands that could have come from just about any minifig. Oh, and the zombies appear to be mostly HP trolls, a favorite of LEGO zombie-builders everywhere.

@NeVeRMoRe666: Heh. That was pretty funny. I laughed. A real laugh. Thanks.
@dead_red_eyes: It's more the idea that this article was forced upon them by advertisers that appears out of it. It's not the actual sponsorship that bothers me. I mean, with the Coors Light thing? They didn't start having reviews of Coors Light going up, and ending with "This article-Sponsored by Coors Light". It's likely that I just took it the wrong way at first, but it's kind of the attitude I see behind it.
