Guitar Hero: World Tour Bags Deluxe $US240 Version
Posted by Michael McWhertor at 11:20 PM on October 7, 2008
Guitar Hero co-publisher RedOctane is looking to squeeze a few more Ulysses S. Grants out of gamers, providing fans of the rhythm genre with a more expensive, but of questionable value, edition of Guitar Hero: World Tour. For $US239.99, exactly $US50 more than the standard retail price, you get... a t-shirt, two recharge kits, a gig bag and a keychain? Surely, that can't be everything.
It might be, as GameSpot requests didn't bear informative fruit from RedOctane reps. You may just be buying the prestige of spending more money on trinkets you'll likely rarely (or never) use. But hey, what's a fifty between friends and the multi-billion dollar corporations who make our plastic junk?

@fadecy: Seriously, I agree. I mean not only do they need to consistently add content to go to war with Rock Band, the UK and Australia get ass-raped on the cost of the damn things to boot. Unjust I tell you!

I'm becoming a bit worried about these soaring prices. Usually the first sign a bubble is about to burst.

I don't think it's such a bad deal considering those charge packs, but aside from that it seems fairly frivolous, but aren't all 'collectors edition' purchases that way these days.
Oh and regarding the instruments, will using an old guitar without the extra frets limit you in any way? How the hell do the extra frets work?

@acez2087:
Yeah that made sense... aren't isn't rockband selling figures and t-shirts and crap of your fake band anyways?
And at least GH is adding more stuff than RB2.
'Oh hai gais! We could have done this stuff as a downloadable patch and put teh songs on the store but we thort weed charge yoo $60 becorze we're nize'
And then they have the balls to take the piss out of the UK customers for complaining about the price, bloody dick heads.

well... in the UK, the best deal around is:
the game, the guitar, the bass guitar, the drums, headset and sticks for £150 ($300).
So i guess we have a better deal. woo!

now, if it came with real life pornstar rock band groupie they may have had something

It seems that every game MUST have a "collector's" version.

*sigh* Alas, after viewing this reluctantly unnecessary tacked on, and high priced version of yet another Guitar Hero game, one message keeps re-iterating itself over and over in my mind from Activision:
"This is a public service announcement brought to you, in part, by Activision. Activision does not give a FUCK what you think. Upon purchasing this version, you now have agreed to kiss their asses. If you don't like it, you can suck their fucking cocks. An-Anything else?"..."Yes, don't buy Rock Band."

oh finally!! something that can hold my KEYS!!
seriously, aside from the charge kits, why would i want to risk an ass kicking walking around in my new t-shirt, with my gear bag slung over my shoulder while twirling my keys and whistling "one" by Metallica?

Yes- I'm sure I'll be willing to pay just shy of what a Wii is going for and $40 over what an Xbox 360 is going for...yes, yes...

Those rechargeable batteries can be pretty expensive. That's not a good deal, but its not ridiculous either.
I think I'll stick with my Ion drums, though.

@SAKY: eh shame on both companies RB uses AA only, at least activions gives you a recharge option. Of course one could always buy a rechargable batteries and a recharger for less. save some money, help save the world.

I just looked at these pictures and I must say that it's quite kick in the ass to the consumer to use a proprietary battery pack when you could just use the MS batteries that MS makes as most folks already have them. But I can't blame Activision for trying to make money whereever they can. Also, I wonder what Harmonix uses for batteries on their instruments. :\ google time.

@fadecy: RB2 gives you 85 songs PLUS 20 more free for download @ $60. That's alone is worth the price as there is no way to get that much DLC at that price iof you like these games. Give credit where it's due. The figures, T-shirts, and stuff is nice if you are THAT into these games.
yea UK gets screwd.

Just save your money and buy a rechargeable battery kit. I got one for $20 bucks and it came with two batteries, and any additional batteries are real cheap. The charging station also works with any rechargeable battery brand. Spread the word so companies will stop trying to rip consumers off.

@Milzo: No the old guitars will work fine. The extra fret buttons are for tapping out solos, which mean they act like strumming a note normally, but you don't have to use the strum bar during solos.
jmill87
BassForever
Posted 1:36 AM 8/10/08
@Milzo: The new guitar does not have new frets, but it has a slide bar. If the game detects the new guitar it adds slide runs where there would normally be ho po's. Atleast thats the impression I've gotten. If you use the RB drum kit, they simply cut off the fifth colored drum.

@SAKY: I did manage to get 16 pre-charged Sanyo Eneloop AA rechargeable batteries off Amazon for $50 (the brand is supposed to be the best out there at holding a charge, and my experience so far shows that to be true) and a solid Lacrosse charger for $40.
I haven't bought a battery since for either of my two Wii remotes, my two 360 controllers, my wireless RB guitar, wireless RB drums, my TV and amp remotes, the remotes in other rooms, my wireless keyboard, or my mouse. It's been pretty sweet.

Knowing that this is a continuation, and that most GH players already have guitar controllers, where are the bundles that just fill in the gaps? I'd pay good money for one that had the mic and a drumkit because I have no interest in a new controller or the features that come with it. I just want to be able to play more instruments and with more friends at once.
