UK Manhunt 2 - The Long Struggle Is At An End
Posted by Mike Fahey at 1:40 AM on October 7, 2008
At last there is light at the end of the tunnel, and beyond that a man waiting with a claw hammer, ready to crack open your skull. Rockstar has confirmed with our friends over at GamesIndustry.biz that following a long struggle with the British Board of Film Classification, Manhunt 2 for the PS2, Wii, and PSP will be in the shops on October 31st, which is some sort of a holiday, or so I'm told.
Manhunt 2 was of course originally denied classification by the BBFC, after which Rockstar appealed, won the appeal, after which the BBFC appealed, then lost, and basically just wasted everyone's time until no one cared anymore, which only took about a week. Congratulations, Rockstar!
Manhunt 2 finally gets UK release date [GamesIndustry.biz]

Wow a year later they finally release the game, but does anyone care anymore?

Finally. Fed up of all this baby sitting crap we have to deal with.
The game's no worse than violent movies like Halloween or Scarface. Sadly people have lost interest in this game now so I doubt it will sell well.

Errm...yay?
I can't see the Wii's main demographic really going for this...

I know this game is getting to you guys very very late. I do have to say though it was a fun game, recommended for the fans of the first game.
I played through them both recently, and I have to say that the MH2 controls are so much better.
For example, remember having to hold down the attack/execute button only to accidentally throw a punch and be spotted? Not any more with the sequel they mapped the execute button to R1 and it works like a charm now.
Game feels more in line with the movie Hostel than 8mm this time around.

I've finished both games on PS2, and I preferred the original - I found Manhunt 2 a lot easier than the first. Both are definately fun games worth playing.

The funny thing is that had they just NOT hyped the game with all this negative publicity, it would've come and gone rather quietly. While the game was better than the first Manhunt (it actually had a decent story!), it wasn't anything that special.
Maybe now with little Jack Thompson out of court (unless HE commited the crime!), we can finally just move on to real issues affecting people outside of videogames.

I was one of the few in the UK lucky enough to get their hands on an uncensored copy. I've honestly seen worse violence and disturbing imagery in games that haven't garnered half as much attention from the media and Jack Thompsons of the world as Manhunt 2 did.
Fucking media sensationalism.

@Numanoid: Perhaps that's why it's such a good idea-- not all Wii owners are blue-haired, or 8 years old...
I say, bring on more non-casual, non-minigame, non-youthcentric Wii titles!*
*But only if they are well-thought-out, and make good usage of controls.

Regardless of whether it was a good game or not (I never played it, though I did play through a good portion of the original) it's the precedent it sets that counts. Will it sell well? Probably not. But will it help future games be approved rather than be banned for arbitrary reasons? It should help, yeah.

Utter shit like this sells while innovation bombs.

@Poo_and_Weeeee: Oh, and I think it's funny how Manhunt gets such a bad rap for being a "Murder Simulator" while Hitman is probably the closest thing to that. I'm glad that all the hate isn't directed at Hitman though.
<3 Hitman.

I roadtested the uncensored version, and it wasn't very good. But I really wanted to play it though, purely because of how foribidden it was, I suppose.

@Poo_and_Weeeee: I think it was all a front. They knew the game was so bad and they couldn't give an excuse not to classify it, so 'MURDER SIMULATOR' had to do.

Finally, it was a pain in the ass to get my swap magic to run my imported US version...
Never finshed it, but now can just pop the disc in and it will play! No faffing around with slimtools...

Pretty decent game. I used a Codebreaker to remove the filter on the PS2 version...and I think the first game is still more violent. Oh well.
