Was there ever any doubt that Travis Touchdown and his laser sword of doom would be making their triumphant comeback? Marvelous Entertainment and Grasshopper Manufacture kick off the Tokyo Game Show right with the debut trailer for No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle. I'd say there's much more information to come, but when you have a woman with spider legs shooting out of her back what more do you need?

I learned my lesson from not supporting Okami on the ps2 (picked it up on the Wii and still waiting for my alternate covers) and bought NMH.

I'm really surprised, considering the game absolutely tanked in Japan. It must have exceeded sales expectations in the US and Europe, I guess. Considering its non-impact in Japan, I wonder why they chose to announce it at TGS, of all places.
@willy626: Yeah, it was funny, but it pissed me off because I was looking forward to another story of the same caliber as killer7. Instead I got... a fun game, but a not-so-good story.
Sure storyline wise it would be there but can you honestly say that it would be a NMH game if they were to completely change the control scheme from the original to 2 so that it is on the 360/PS3?
What are you talking about? That made the game for me. He completely threw away traditional storytelling for the sake of one the funniest moments in gaming Ive ever been privvy to.
@Legion 329: What the hell makes you say that? NMH was praised as being the perfect blend of traditional and wiimote controls up til that point on the console, and the graphics certainly havent been upgraded, Im gonna call guesstimating out your ass on that one.
My first thought when I saw "Desperate Struggle" was DS... Well, good thing that has a very slim chance of happening. I look forward to another one on the Wii!
Awesome! I gave Grasshopper Manufacture my money for part 1 and I'll gladly do it again for part 2.
However, is this going to be a Wii game again?

Wii fans rejoice once more!
Now think if they had Wii Motion plus for this and considering what graphics the Wii can output with the demonstration from our friends at High Voltage... hmm...
Now that it has a sequel I have to go back and force myself to attempt to endure the first again just to get to the point that is worthy of all the praise this game gets.
YES! No More Heroes was great. It had over the top violence and the end was simply hilarious (anyone else check the slow mo monologue from her?) when every cliche was thrown in just because.

@Para: Yeah, I kind of missed charging my lightsaber after getting that last upgrade.
@sinister6000: yeah the thing is japan didnt like it for some reason and all the blood made the european version change it to ashes when you killed the enemies, it certainly made some smaller sales for that.
graphics look better so it might come out for 360 or ps3. since they have a more "mature" audience... last no more heroes wasnt really a big seller. but im sooo stoked for it coming back i really didnt think it was going to especially after suda's comments on the sales of the 1st one

@frank0127: and making controls the controls suck on ps3 too. Imagine moving the controller to make the combos on the ps3.....simply horrible.
@frank0127: "I really don't think They'd shit on the fanbase"
like the fan base that Grasshopper Manufacture built in the US with the PS2 version of killer7?
Or do you mean that they'd shit on you for "taking it to the PS3's Sixaxis?"
Listen up kids; Suda51 has a rather large fanbase outside of Nintendo land.
@Xeneizes: i can easily imagine a DS No More Heroes where you swipe side to side to attack. the high/low stances would take effect on their respective spots on the screen(like if you swiped closer to the top of the screen, it would be 'high stance' attacking).
it's better explained in my mind than in words. hahaha

@Soleyu: The on screen wrestling commands ...sucked....if you weren't holding the Wiimote in the right hand. @FencerHayato: I really doubt it would do better elsewhere. The 360/PS3 userbase rarely responds to anything that isn't advertised HEAVILY and it would have much more competition from other games.
Meanwhile, games on the Wii are rarely advertised period and there are very very few games even close to it in genre.
I'd like to see a metroid prime hunters type system, where you walk around an open world with a set number of challengers, that can appear at any time, and if you encounter them, the area you're in becomes the area/battlefied you fight in (after dealing with cronies).
It would cut out the need to earn money for fights (the jobs still being there for money in general), and would provide great replayability, with each boss able to appear in several unique locations
This is incredible news! Now please please be on the wii and use the Motion-plus add-on. I'm sure it would look 'prettier' on the 360 but this game pulled off its distinctive style just fine on the little wii that could.
OK, I'm a bit late to the party but all I have to say is..... YES! Thanks a billion GHM!

The Wii's best game gets a sequel! Oh, joy! Oh, bliss! Oh, auspicious day! WOO-HOOOOO! LET'S PARTAAYYYY!!!
Sadly, no info on platforms... and "Desperate Struggle" strongly hints to DS. But come on, Stylus beam katana is ok, but Wiimote beam katan? Thats the way to go!
Also note, Im not taking any more crap if we get the "ash version" over here in Euroland... we want fountains of blood here too, Suda!
On a sidenote, have you notice that Suda seems to enjoy making girls/woman the harder bosses? And the first enemy shown is a woman... hmmm...

Posted 9:47 PM 9/10/08
@Shiryu: I'd hate it if it were for the DS, and I don't think it is. The trailer announces "NMH2", not "NMH: Stylus Assassin" or some such title.
Despite the Dragon Quest precedent (a very classic franchise easily adaptable to any platform), I don't think the DS would get a numbered sequel.
A kind of spin-off, I can understand. A prequel, maybe? But why downgrade to the DS for NMH2?
I mean, it's not an attack against the DS to say that it would feel like a downgrade: to accomodate the portable, Suda would have to strip down many of the things that made the original great. I don't want Travis', Henry's and Sylvia's story to continue in gimped form.
Now, Wii/DS connectivity? I'm on board.
For now, I'll just assume it's for the Wii. Or at least a home console, not a portable.
("NMH2 iPhone exclusivity confirmed, prompting Antiterra to die in protest! More after the jump!")
Oh hell yes. What more pure fun can be had than from No More Heroes? I eagerly await mashing the A button and jerking off my Wii-mote some more!
Only thing: Make Santa Destroy a bit more fun to drive around, please? I'd like a bit more than finding random balls lying around to do.

I really want a No More Heroes game to have you play as all the different assassins rather than just Travis and flesh out their stories. Then halfway through the game you would have to pick the character you want and kill of the rest or something like that.
This was a great game for the wii. A 360 version would just ruin its appeal. The first one actually sold over 200,000 copies in the US, and almost that in the UK, not bad for aa early wii 3rd party title and even better than Killer 7 for the Gamecube.
This will probably rake in way more than that since there are more wii owners now and the game has been accepted a lot more. By the time people relized that his game was good they could buy it used for $20.
i don't know why everyone is ragging on NMH for having bad sales; it sold great considering it was made by a tiny team on a shoestring budget. beat expectations in every country it was released in except japan. not every game needs to put up GTA numbers to be a success.
this announcement bears that out. and it makes me very, very happy.
No confirmation on which console it's being released for though. Suda did originally want to develop NMH for the Xbox 360 until he was persuaded to check out the Wii's motion controls.
I'm hoping we'll see this title on the Wii, but with a 2010 release, it'll be at the end of the Wii's life cycle.
Honestly though, I don't care what console it's on. I will go out and buy the console it's on if I don't have it, just so I can play this game.

All gripes about the cheap, clunky GTA clone portion of the game aside, I'll quote zero punctuation of escapistmagazine.com here: "I recommend No More Heroes simply because you will never in your life play anything fucking like it." I value a unique and challenging experience over anything else in a game, so it should come as no surprise that this game has captured the title of my favorite game ever. As soon as I (finally) took down the last boss, and then (finally [finally]) took down the LAST last boss, and saw the ending hinting at a sequel, I became ecstatic. The boss battles were absolutely the best I've ever experienced, making minimal use of the wii motion controls and placing emphasis on combos and extreme timing. That being said, I do hope the sequel improves in 3 key areas. 1st, I would like to see more wii control involvement integrating wii motion plus. 2nd, I hope to see more minor character diversity in the main missions. And lastly, I hope there are more "continuity schisms" like in the one mission where Henry "snatches" your kill from you, only to show up at the end as the final boss. These boss characters are so compelling (when not simply hilarious); it would be nice to be introduced to them more than once before dispatching them from this earth. Characterization in a video game? Whatever Suda 51 does to subvert the genre, the medium and culture in general with this sequel, $50 of my 2010 budget has already been assigned.
Need confirmation that NMH2 is a Wii-scusive? Click the link above. It's the Marvelous Entertainment Japanese press release. Scroll down to the NMH section. Only 1 console listed as it's destination - Wii.
Yes, almost all of this is in Japanese. But not the "which console" part.
Then again, it looks as if this won't even street until 2010.

Jiminy there's a lot of wacky stuff in that thirty seconds: "Travis Strikes Back" T-shirt, Terminator Two homage ("I'll be back," NMH2 logo and drum riff). I especially liked how all the spider legs came out at once; and then one more drops right under the crotch. Looks like they haven't lost their tacky classy touch.

I'm really surprised, considering the game absolutely tanked in Japan. It must have exceeded sales expectations in the US and Europe, I guess. Considering its non-impact in Japan, I wonder why they chose to announce it at TGS, of all places.

Meanwhile, games on the Wii are rarely advertised period and there are very very few games even close to it in genre.
Overall, it has a higher chance on Wii.

To be honest, I don't care what console it's going to be on. Suda51 can take my money, as long as I get the gift of NMH2 in return. Mmmmmm.
