XNA Games Showing Up On Xbox Live
Posted by Mike Fahey at 3:00 PM on October 9, 2008
Several readers have emailed us to let us know that two games have appeared on Xbox Live under the XNA Creator's Club banner. A space shooter called Net Rumble and a letters game called Netters are both available for download as we speak, as I just verified, in both free demo and full versions priced at 100 Microsoft Points a pop. Unfortunately we've also verified that the two titles seem unplayable to the average users, with XNA Creator's Club launcher errors popping up even if you have the program installed. I suppose I'll just let them sit there on my hard disk until I figure out what to do with them. Lovely.
Thanks to both DerrickDS and Lucas for pointing out the new additions!

@dead_red_eyes:
Dishwasher was a pretty decent game, I'll grab that in a heartbeat when it releases.

Hopefully that means the release for "Dishwasher" is just around the corner.

Here's a quick blurb from the XNA site:
"This is a pre-release version of XNA Game Studio 3.0. Many new features are available for you to try, but Xbox 360 Deployment of your games is not enabled in this pre-release."
My guess is that it will work when the new Xbox Experience goes live or soon after.

Well TGS is supposed to start in about two hours from now so they might work after Microsoft makes a formal announcement.

@Barbara: Well you know, today in Japan is TGS. In fact, TGS starts in about 2 hours from now. They are probably going to make a major announcement then.

@cowwithoutbrain: Here is a post where Michael Klucher says you probably shouldn't purchase them: [forums.xna.com]

Will these work for non-XNA members? As in, can I download them just like any old game?
That is, after the bugs are fixed, of course!

Hey this is Lucas, kid who sent this in.
So apparently, you cant have a trial account (which lots of people got from that one promotion that gave a 12 month xna trial) as you have to have a premium account to access the community games. laaame.
here's where i got the info: [creators.xna.com]
so if you pay for this, i guess you're in luck?
plus microsoft needs to fix that error message. =P

I hope they kill the premium requirement sometime soon. Being asked to pay for the ability to provide microsoft with content makes me ill.

@dead_red_eyes: It is currently available on the Xbox marketplace accessible by game developers and it is damn fun. So much blood, lol. Don't know when it will be available to the public though.

I thought Net Rumble was just an example project to demonstrate network code. I don't see why anyone would want to spend any amount of time playing that game unless they're looking at the source.

Right now I'm writing a game for this in XNA. I imagine there will be a few bugs at first. :D

@dead_red_eyes: Dishwasher is an XNA based game which is being published by Microsoft through normal XBLA channels. Its not part of XBL Community games. As for its release date... unannounced.

@Silenced: No Xbox Live community games will not come with achievements. Since they are user provided it would be far too easy to create games just to grant them to yourself or others.

@UltimatePancakeSensation: When Xbox Live Community Games releases later this year you will be able to downlaod trial and full versions of games just like Xbox Live Arcade. See [creators.xna.com]

Looks like this was just a glitch in the matrix ;-)

It's sad that this isn't functioning properly yet, as it will probably turn off many users to this (or these games, at least) for a long time or permanently.
