Justify Your Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts
Posted by Michael McWhertor at 5:00 PM on October 14, 2008
If anything, we're now guilty of giving too much direction on justifying one's game. Rare's Neill Harrison took advantage of our goodwill, which is letting developers and producers prep ahead of time for Justify Your Game, resulting in carefully planned elevator pitches. For Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, Harrison pretty much nails it following a minute's long mental practice. If it weren't for the last second awkwardness, this one would've been left on the cutting room floor. Thank the video gods for performance anxiety!

The game that made Japanese gawk in joy/horror, depending on your philosophy...

It looks amazingly good, but I'll miss the old style =/

@Markez: I think most Rare games are less expensive than other games (ie.Viva Pinata!).
Also, if you preorder now you get Banjo Kazooie Free for XBLA. I think it was in Amazon but don't quote me on that.

Will there be a demo. I'm a bit skeptical with the vehicle stuff. I'd rather have a pure platformer...

@Xenigma:
Wowza, the game is only 30 beans? Or only 30 beans when you preorder?

with Banjo 3 I think I've really come around. I went from hating the character design, to hating the gameplay, to loving it all together.
Definitely picking this one up :)

@Xenigma: Why is that too bad? You're still buying it :D

Too bad I don't need to be sold on it, as I already preordered. Free Banjo-Kazooie means a $30 for a new 360 game I'm already interested in. That's a price that isn't too hard to justify.

@Bernard McGraw: I liked Viva Pinata. But you're right Kameo and Grabbed by the Ghoulies sucked. I actually have never thought about purchasing this game. I'll rent it once it comes out though to see if it changes my mind.

@Markez: Rare games are $40. I think Xenigma is counting Banjo-Kazooie on XBLA as $10 out of the price because preorders for Nuts & Bolts get the XBLA original for free.

I'm so scared of this potentially sucking. I haven't enjoyed a Rare game since... well, Banjo-Tooie. Please, PLEASE don't fuck this up.

I play tested this game a few months ago. It freaking sucks... then again the only recent performer I've liked was Braid.

Me too.. actually it will only cost you $25 because if you plan on buying the arcade game anyway that will save you the $15 in Microsoft points. Whoo Hoo!

Ill pre-order to get Banjo-Kazooie for free then switch my money back to Gears 2 or something.
Does anyone else think Microsoft is making this because Sony is getting LittleBigPlanet???

@kylo4: Scratch that. Unless in Canada they give away Banjo Kazooie with it I won't be buying. ($35 is the price on Amazon right now).

$35 for a new game? Why aren't they all like this? I'm sold now.

@kylo4: Well...normally the price for Rare games is lower than average even here in Canada, so don't give your hopes up just yet. Also, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere the give-away is forthcoming.

@kylo4: I'm pissed off, its £40 here, which is double $35 :@ I will not be purchasing if they pull this kind of shit.

It would seem Neill Harrison has never heard of GARRYS MOD then for the Source engine.
Can build/race/fly/do what ever the hell you like.

@Big_Adam:
Very true, but can't that be said for every gamer as well? You can't assume every gamer has heard of "Garry's MOD"
It'll be interesting to see how this concept will hold on the console, if LBP is any indication this could be great for 360 owners.

Everyone has heard of it and certainly even more game developers than gamers considering the insane popularity of the Mod and the fact it went retail, the first 100% succesful mod to retail conversion since Counter-Strike, thanks to that popularity. You can count on every developer taking note of what made it work out so well.

@digipen89: Actually, I haven't played Grabbed by the Ghoulies. I just bought it, but I don't have Xbox Live at university so I can't get the system update required to play it. I'm so curious about it.

Garrys Mod is more of a hacked together physics sandbox than an actual game. I am looking forwards to nuts and bolts

He says, "It works like a multiplayer." That in itself isn't convincing me to buy Nuts & Bolts. I'd rather have another rendition of Kazooie and Tooie, both platformers. And Nuts & Bolts really doesn't look like a platformer to me. I'm more excited for the original Banjo on XBLA.
