My thoughts exactly on both your statements. I really am hoping for some sort of tie in to the original, even if it is a throw away line by a npc saying somehting about "an incident on some island" or just the mention of Jack Carver.

@SmashedSmurf: Oh the tech behind the game in general is incredible but, it seems that's all the it's made of... I think what impressed me the most with the trailer is the presence of actual characters and a story. After GTA4 I promised myself I would never fall into the trap of buying tech demos anymore. You're impressed for the first hour but then, you're bored for the next 15-20 ones. But don't listen to me, I hope you enjoy the game (and I hope I do too).

It's like they blew their load with BG&E and Sands of Time (5 years ago), and everything since then has just been a ridiculous cringefest whenever anyone opens their mouth. It's a shame. A baffling, baffling shame.

I was just about to make a comment about this. Absolutely everything in this game blows me away (from a graphical standpoint) excluding the character models.

Given, I can see how environments would be easier to get just right than people, but Crytek did an amazing job on Crysis' character models and the Dunai engine seems up to the task of producing as beautiful graphics as CryEngine 2.

For some reason this trailer caused my interest in the game to fade. Maybe it's because the NPC models look like crap. Seems like this shares a similar fate to many next-gen titles: a gorgeous, photorealistic environment with ugly, wax mannequin characters.

I'll be honest, though, and admit that I unabashedly love Far Cry: Instincts on the original Xbox.

Nah, I liked it.
But it's nowhere near as great or big as they advertised.

It's about the same (to me) as Crysis... will probably be lots of fun to play, but nothing crazy like some magazines and reviewrs are seying out there.

I'm just really pleased it's a multi-platform game. Crysis looked good but I just couldn't play it on any of the PCs available to me. This on the other hand is accessible and looks really good.
