What's Sega Bringing To TGS?
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 9:30 PM on October 1, 2008
TGS is soon! Very, very soon. October 9-12, to be exact, and we'll be there from October 6 onwards! So get excited, will you? Look, Sega will be there, and they'll be showing a ton of stuff, big difference between this year and last year being they're showing a lot of stuff that's good. Like Yakuza 3 and Bayonetta on the PS3. And Sonic Unleashed. And some awful-looking PC MMO thing. And so damn many RPGs on the handheld systems that I'm not even going to bother highlighting them here. You'll find them - and everything else on show (and yes, we know, Madworld isn't there) - after the jump.

Hmm, Sadly thought , i don't see them reviving any of those. Esp...Esp...Panzer Dragoon anything. D:

I'm not sure I'm really liking this trend. Each company so far is making very few PS3 and 360 games, and a ton of games for portable systems. Which means companies didn't move to "next-gen" systems, they just moved to portables.

I'm more excited about Bayonetta than anything else for the next year. I mean it's from the Clover, who made two of my favourite games of the last generation, which were both radically different from each other. God Hand still holds up there as one of my favourite action games, and it hasn't been topped by either of the major Next-Gen titles. I really really can't wait!

Ok then let's try this. Developing for the PSP and DS are loads easier AND less expensive than developing for the 360 and the PS3. That and there a lot more of them out there maximizing there profits. That's probably more relevant for you right?

@twinturbo2: Yeah I would love a new Daytona USA but only if they do it properly and it runs at a full 60 FPS like the arcade originals. Sega Rally Revo was just a huge disappointment, Sega Rally 2 and the original Daytona USA in the arcades are still my faves.
@megahurtz: Yes me too. I'm a big Aliens and Sega fan so when I saw pics of that game in an Xbox 360 mag last year my chest nearly bursted from joy. Also I've not heard anything about the Alien RPG other than that they are "making" it. An Alien RPG sounds silly anyway, I just can't see how it would work unless it plays out in real time like say Mass Effect but still....

Hatsune Miku
An awesome line-up so far. Kinda wish they had more PSP games to show, though. Garnet Chronicle sounds curious, as does "Internet Adventure."
SEGA could be awesome and have "Internet Adventure" be something like a SEGAGAGA for the internet.

Maybe Im crazy, but for ages now ive been hoping and praying for sega to announce a true sequal to Phantasy Star 4(yes, I know they said they would never make another, but meh)
Alas though, year after year I remain disappointed. Yet the hope remains this year with all the new Phantasy Star material out these days, could they be holding back a major Phantasy Star announcement....like the true 5th installment on the PS3 or X360(or both)I can dream, right?
As for what they have announced, looks good to me. Sonic Unleashed actually looks like a good throwback to what made the game so great in the past and Bayonetta looks like bulletwitch on crack(I liked bulletwitch so thats a good thing)
Not too fond of portable gaming(have a DS, use it for a dictionary, have a PSP, use it for a dust collector)so not to interested in those as well as the typical Wii shovelware I see in the list.
So basically, hoping for some big announcements.

@dowingba: I'm not sure simply saying they're cheaper will get the point across to him. They're cheaper by a factor of 10 to 100. Console games are expensive. The advertising cost alone are in the 10's of millions not to mention how much it cost to hire a dev team that's around 50 to 200 people over a period of 2 to 4 years. People aren't just blowing wind up the the ass when they say the business model is unsustainable.

Haruhi on the Wii AND DS?! Awesomeness. Because the DS isn't region-locked. (Although, I'll have to find a decent place to import it, as this will be the first game I'll do so with.)
And Sega abandoned Panzer Dragoon and Shenmue because, while they were wonderful, they just weren't making the company any money. :(
