Rock Band 2 Free DLC Hit With 'Unexpected Delay'
Posted by Michael McWhertor at 11:00 AM on November 6, 2008
We know you're impatient for the twenty gratis songs that Harmonix is giving away to Rock Band 2 owners, as evidenced by the ton of foot-stomping e-mails you've sent. They're coming, as you probably know. They may just be coming a little later than expected, as the release of the songs from up and coming artists have hit an "unexpected delay."
Harmonix community honcho Sean Baptiste updates us on the status of the Rock Band freebies, writing on the game's official forums "We have hit an unexpected delay with getting the content online with Microsoft and are working diligently with them to get that resolved."
"We have suspended sending out the token codes until the content becomes available," Baptiste continues, explaining that the Harmonixers are "working our butts off" to get them online. Expect more info over the next day for Xbox 360 types, with news on the PlayStation 3 versions to come later.

I don't mind, I'm not familiar with any of them, so this'll give me a time to at least look up what I'm going to end up playing.

Although I have been in denial for a while, it does seem that Harmonix puts PS3 on the backburner. Well, I guess not the backburner - that location is specifically saved for Wii and PS2.

I say if M$ has issues let Sony have the tracks first!

I was really hoping to get these today but whatever. I finished Mother 3 and Fallout 3 instead.

Not implying the chances aren't high, though. :P

If there was a single song I've heard of, I'd be more upset. Just give me fucking Texas Flood already, please for the love of god.

"We have hit an unexpected delay with getting the content online with Microsoft and are working diligently with them to get that resolved."
"...with news on the PlayStation 3 versions to come later."
It all makes sense. Microsoft controls the content on PSN. That's why they always get things later.

@Squamden: I was a fan of no less than 4 of these bands and after finding videos for the rest, I was a fan of most of them.
I like how people these days equate popular music with garbage but if you try giving them lesser-known bands, they just throw it back in your face.

My meager life does not allow me to forget about these songs, even though I know it would be best if I did. I'm not even looking forward to any given track - I just love new content.
Fallout 3 will have to do for now.

@Strangelove:
Hell yeah, I can't wait for Texas Flood! I wish they had done that instead of Nirvana or Red Hot Chili Pepper albums.
Although I do admit, I am looking forward to emulating the X-Japan sining style. I wish they had chosen a better song.

ea support says they'll continue issuing codes on friday. i don't know if that means the songs will go live by then, but it might.

You'll pass on free songs? God, just cause you've never heard of them doesn't mean their not worth getting. You must be the loser who bought an Arcade version and has to conserve space. Yeah, they're free - shut up.

@Strangelove: Looking forward to that as well. You may like the Ghost Hounds song. Good blues rock, kinda reminds me of Johnny Lang. Makes me glad that HMX is giving that genre some love.

@Chucklestyle: The Between the Buried and Me song is the one I'm least looking forward to. Music is good, vocals are ass. But the rest of the 20 were a pleasant surprise - most of them I would probably have paid $1 for if they were standalone DLC, a few of which I would have paid the standard $2 for.

@Lazlo: No, I'm "fuck you" rich so money isn't the issue. It's the fact that I listened to all these songs weeks ago when they were announced and simply wish they were putting out some "real" songs in lieu of hooking up their friends in indie bands ;)
