U.S. Version Of Club Nintendo To Hand Out Physical Goodies
Posted by Michael McWhertor at 10:00 AM on November 15, 2008
Nintendo of America announced that it was taking the Club Nintendo customer reward programing stateside in October, just prior to Tokyo Game Show. Details were scant, only revealing that Nintendo fans could accrue points through filling out surveys and, of course, buying armfuls of Nintendo stuff, then registering that stuff. But what kind of stuff will we, the purchasers of Nintendo stuff, get in return?
MTV Multiplayer caught up with Nintendo VP Cammie Dunaway to inquire about the program, still planned to launch before the end of the year. The good news? Expect to get tangible rewards a la the Japanese Club Nintendo for your virtual "gold coins."
Hopefully, that means desk cluttering collectibles like the Mario moustache towels and Club Nintendo-only software like Tingle's Balloon Fight. HOPEFULLY!
New Details About U.S. Version Of 'Club Nintendo', Will Include American And Japanese Items [MTV Multiplayer]

@Brien: Same here. My years-old Nintendo stuff has a whole bunch of stuff spread over three consoles. Nintendo better not screw this up >:(

I never used to register my products, but when I heard about this, I began hording all of my registration codes, waiting for the program to start.
I'd be happy with just being able to trade in points for Wii Points Cards, but I'd be equally swayed by some cool retro controllers and such. :)

@Vander: Agreed. It will be interesting to see how they handle it. I've been registering every game since they started it, not to mention dozens of VC/WiiWare games. Hate to be "starting from scratch", so to speak.

I'm very interested in this, can't wait to see if it is indeed in any way going to count my currently registered products, or if one will need to re-register and/or make actually buy new games to count towards this.
As always though, I'm more interested in finding out when the hell Nintendo plans on fixing my Wii to store more VC games. I'm tired of deleting things to add new stuff. Downloading things when I want to play them is annoying. The sad thing is there are at least 5 games I'd buy tomorrow on the VC right now if I had more room for them.
Dammit Nintendo. How many Wiis do I have to sell to people I know before its enough for you to just fix the ONE problem I personally have with your console :P

The biggest question should be: Are all our currently registered products qualified for retroactive points?
It would really blow if they started giving you points on stuff you've purchased since the program launched.

We've had this in europe for about a year now. To be honest, you'll have to check their website on a daily, if not hourly basis. The decent stuff 'sells' out really really quickly, and they never seem to get anything back into stock. I'd love to get my hands on that Game & Watch collection.

@Vander: I can see the VC/WiiWare stuff being retroactive from the start; I really can't say about everything else. It would be a shame if they didn't do either (DL-Games and Retail). Though, it wouldn't be surprising, but what would they lose anyway owning Wii and DS machines that spits out money. :P

If this becomes anything more than "decent", then in Europe we'll start an all out war against Club Nintendo Europe. You know, our Club Nintendo sucks rat's ass.

My wife bought me the Club Nintendo Hanafuda deck for our anniversary on eBay. (Nintendo started by making hanafuda cards.) Amazing deck. It might be too much to ask for those decks to show up here; it's not that known in the US.

I can only be excited for this if the majority of my past-registered games earn me points.
The only Nintendo game in the fore-seeable future that I want that will have a registration code is Animal Crossing City Folk.

@Brien: I agree. I've got tons of games registered, both physical and VC.
Most of it is from my compulsion to buy anything Nintendo.
The rest is from going into Blockbuster or GameStop and stealing the codes out of the empty cases.
What?

@Torgen got his apology faceplate but not his fixed GH3 disc: Can't have the games sit on it and play from there. If that worked, or even if it took less than 20 minutes to copy an N64 game, that would be acceptable. I have plenty of SD cards :)
