   Back when I was a young child of 4, I received a Gameboy Pocket for Christmas. With that Gameboy Pocket came Mega Man II. Having never played a proper game before, the experience was new to me. Booting it up, I loaded Crash Man’s level first. I’ll never forget it. Running, jumping, shooting, and difficulty all combined into an experience that I didn’t turn off for the next 3 weeks. I don’t think I beat a level in that time, but it didn’t matter. Playing it was just so much fun, even if nothing was accomplished. Mega Man II also lead me into the world of gaming as a whole, and for those reasons it stands tall in my mind as one of the greatest games I’ve ever played.

   Street Fighter II was the first game I ever played. Embarrassingly enough, the copy I owned was a hacked version for the Famicom and I was limited to playing four characters but, being three or four-years-old at the time, this didn’t faze me. I just loved being able to push buttons and seeing Chun Li respond to my button-mashing. It didn’t matter that I had no idea what I was doing, nor did it matter that I didn’t understand the premise of the game. What DID matter was that I was making things happen on the screen, which blew my infant mind, and it was the one game that my older brother would play with me.

   I guess you never forget your first game; Street Fighter II planted the seed of my love affair with videogames and even now, 17 or 16 years on, I still game for the same reason I did when I played Street Fighter II — to make things happen on the screen; to see the game respond to my actions (I no longer button mash, thank god!).

   I love Street Fighter; always have and, unless Capcom starts doing some crazy shit, always will. It’s the game that got me into gaming, so for that, I salute Capcom.

   A game that changed my life was Capcom’s Breath Of Fire 2.

   I was in grade 6 and was just getting into anime and role playing games (I’d finished Secret Of Mana and wanted another epic story), my first exposure was in Nintendo Magazine System (N.M.S.) after skimming through for the Anime Action segment. I’d previously heard about an epic RPG by the name of Breath Of Fire in the mailbag section, they later reviewed Breath Of Fire 2.

   Having been a previous fan of Capcom’s material such as Megaman X 2 & Street Fighter 2 Turbo I was virtually salivating at the mouth in anticipation at what they would deliver, and I was not disappointed. Long had I searched for a cartridge of BOF2 and then one day, to my delight, there was a copy for rent at my local Blockbuster Video franchise. I had rented this game out for a straight month as I followed the saga of Ryu, Katt, Bow, Nina, Sten, Spar, Rand & the secret character, Bleu.

   I played this game through maybe about…6 times? Developing new tactics, finding the shamans, my delight at finding Giant Island and being able to defeat the K.Sludge, the G.Dragon attack, picking stamina boosts over the hilariously pitiful ChopChop ability, the joy of learning Boombada, laughing at the Earth Shaman, reuniting Ryu with Garner, defeating Barubary & Dethven….and sadly watch the game come to an end.

   Since then I’d enjoyed Breath of Fire 3, 4 & 5 on an equal level but nothing will budge Breath of Fire 2, the memories of late nights and searching Lycos & Altavista pages for Breath of Fire 2 playguides and FAQ’s from its place in my heart. Thank you for everything Capcom.

   I heart you Capcom.

   Once More to Liberty Island

   The capcom game i obsessed over was Resident Evil 2.
   At the time i was fairly young, and did not own a console, i was stuck with a terrible pc. So going to my uncle’s place and getting to play his playstation was heaps of fun, and as luck would have it, late at night, i snuck out to play his playstation. I noticed a new game in his selection, resident evil 2, so i threw it in. The instant i was thrown head first into a horde of zombies with nothing but a pistol and my own 2 legs to keep me alive, the adrenaline kicked in, followed shortly by a string of deaths. Finally i got the hang of the controls, and was able to progress. After a lengthy period, with both mixed fear and adrenaline, i finished the first survival horror game i’d ever played. Whilst the genre may not be as strong as it used to be, every few months, i throw my resident evil discs back into my console and play through it, because, whilst many have tried, few have ever managed to get survival horror to the level that capcom took resident evil too.

   i absolutely fell head over heels for monster hunter, me and my 3 chums all had PSP’s and we all eventually got monster hunter on psp, we quested and quested and upgraded all our weapons, man it was so awesome the level of intensity faced against the dragon and crab bosses, i honestly thank Capcom for bringing out such a awesome game, in a way it has changed my life, i mean after they released MH2 i was blitzed- more so. i remember spending a whole day on this matress trying to get the requirements for this weapon, finally i gathered all the hides and claws for it and it was sundown, man i was trippin balls.

   Resident Evil 2 was the game that made me fall in love with Capcom. It was the second game i ever bought for my PSX(my first console). It is, to this day, my most played game ever. I played through it over and over. Resident Evil 2 is what spawned my love of survival horror. So i have capcom to thank for all the other survival horrors Ive played as well. More importantly, even when i traded in my PSX for a PS2 and then my PS2 for a 360(still deciding if that was a good idea or not, but those contollers are just so comfy) I still own my copy of Resident Evil 2. It has pride of place on my self next to my Gears of War figures and Far Cry 2 Dog Tags.
   Wouldn’t it be nice if I could put some Resident Evil 5 things there too???

   I have enjoyed a wide variety of Capcom games over the years as a gamer – late nights playing resident evil 1, 2 or 3 on my PS during high school, missing lectures to finish Onimusha 1&2 on PS2 during uni – even hoarding away my 20 cent coins as a little bloke so my brother and I could work our way through Final Fight on arcade in the local fish & chip shop. But none of these took me by surprise as much as Okami did.

   From the first moments of Okami I found myself whisked away to a deeply engaging adventure where you, the God-Wolf, restore and regenerate a broken land. A revolutionary approach to combat (for the ps2 anyway), a bench mark graphical style and a rich world full of unique characters, creative set pieces and consistently addictive gameplay. Never have I so easily lost hour after hour in pursuit of every last quest, the whole time being serenaded by the completely original and top notch score.
   It’s a credit to the game that my wife, usually nonchalant about any of the games I play, found Okami interesting enough to regularly spectate on my progress.

   So how did Okami change my life? Well games for me are a way of tuning out and relaxing. Experiencing and engaging with adventures beyond the norm (aka the workplace). Okami is the definitive adventure that I thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish, a game I regularly come back to and in fact I may even dig out the ps2 this afternoon for a reminisce. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to give my own personal ‘I heart Okami’ rant. Im almost as excited as the time I found a bunch of copies for $20 in a bargain bin at Myers and I called everyone I knew who owned a PS2 to check they already had a copy. Thank you CAPCOM for your wonderful contribution to this gamer’s experience, here’s to many more!

   oracle of ages was the 1st zelda game i ever playd…it totally changed my perception of video games (playing mario most of my childhood). Now i am a Zelda nut owning nearly every game (except Zelda II) thnx capcom…w/out you i might not be enjoying zelda games today…

   The game that changed my life would have to be Resident Evil 5… yes yes yes, I know it only came out last week, but hear me out. In the few days that I’ve had it, I’ve stopped going to work, broken up with my girlfriend, skipped my grandma’s funeral, and put on 15 kilo’s. I’m certainly truly complete now that I have RE5.

    The origional Resident Evil was actually the first Capcom game I fell in love with – back in Primary School staying up late at my friends place, the voice acting didn’t seem so bad as it does now (in a good way :P), and when that first zombie tried grabbing us we both about pissed ourselves as my friends fathers antique clock started ringing out next to us – it was both intense and totally rad.

    The Capcom game I fell in love with
    in an instant and stil love to this day, is ‘Killer7’.
    Not owning a cube at the time the game was released,
    I managed to get a 2nd hand copy of the game a few years later.

    The story, setting and ambience of the game
    started to suck me in after only playing it for about 30 mins.
    It was both weird and fantastic all at the same time,
    plus also one of those games I really enjoyed taking my time to finish.(and not because I didn’t get the puzzles or strange gameplay!)I would play the game as if I was reading a great crime or sf novel at my own pace, because I just wanted to get back to it every day, and maybe read a second or third time if I had the chance.In the end it took me about a 2 months to complete, and every second played was worth it!

    I never did get to play it a second or third time, but
    even to this day I stil sometimes make an evil chuckle like
    the Heaven Smiles always make when they approach you in the game.

    Ahhh yes, capcom, my old friend, I remember you well. I do believe that you still have my soul.

    I did not fall in love with a mere game, I fell in love with an oddessy of games, an onslaught of wallet sapping masterpieces. For I was not like the other people who have fallen victim of a single capcom series. I have fallen afoul of Devil May Cry (Countless nights spent up until daybreak just playing with combos), Mega Man (on the gameboy, I spent more on batteries that month than my parents spent on food), Breath of Fire (yes, I played it to death, now it has stopped working, noooooo), Dead Rising has been not only downloaded to my 360, but also to my friends so that I can play on their consoles with my disk, they dont even own the game, which is HERESY! And Street Fighter, ahhh, street fighter. I could have bought several copies of the game for the ammount I have spent in arcades, just trying to play every character, defeat every challenger, and finaly take the crown in my arcade as the Master.

    Unfortunatley in the time it has taken to write this post, I have realised that I havent played Devil May Cry for some time, And now I must run because if i resist for another second the withdrawal symptoms will take over and I will no longer be able to …………

    Gather round folks,and be prepared to listen to my yarn about: MEGA MAN.

    Capcom will forever hold a place in my heart for introducing that
    ever awesome blue headed unit – Megaman.
    Through his many iterations, how can I forget the tons
    of countless bosses? The fantastic character design?
    The magnifecent music that always
    gave you a shot of adrenaline like a drug pusher, forcing you to
    agressively approach their many develish levels…only to witness your little blue man desintegrate into nothingness in a deafening echo,and the sound of my heart breaking, knowing i have to go in and do it again.

    Thanks to this template, Capcom managed to pull the strings of my heart countless times over the years with every Megaman release.

    Megaman has also affected me in the way I live out my life.
    I’ll be in a business meeting, and I’ll hear the Megaman level start playing on my phone…yup that’s my message tone, prepping me for entering a new zone to fight eveil.
    I’ve even attatched music to each individual on my mobile…the parents and boss??
    yup they get the end of level boss music, in anticipation of the ducking and weaving manouvres required for the call ahead.
    My girlfriend? Sweet end of music tranquility, prepping me to be lulled into submission by my girlfriend, knowing that everything was going to be ok.

    You may be thinking so what? Big Deal, how does that impact you?
    It has only been recently that I’ve begun to take note that Megaman’s
    trials and tribulations infact mirror my own.
    The devilish level designs mentioned above, take on the vast decisions that
    I make in real life, knowing that whatever choice I make could impact me for life.
    Forcing me to heard that ever deafening breaking of my heart
    and then the image of Megaman desintegrating begins to seem more real.
    My loss becoming ever more a reality.

    Thankyou Capcom, megaman has been inspirational to me from
    the get go. It has not only touched my heart, it has not only changed
    my life, it has FORMED life of that of which i live by, thanks Megaman.
    Cheers Capcom.

    Back in Elementary School there were an arcade place just a block from the school, me and a group of 5 friends were so obsessed by Super Street Fighter II turbo that the only thing that we use to talk about was about who wined the most times or who would beat who, and everyone in the group had street fighter figurines and posters, etc. So obviously everybody got a super Nintendo just to buy super street fighter II, but as everybody knows, its not the same without having the arcade controls, so everyday after school we used to go play, and on weekends and on holidays!.

    We find out that we were obsessed when the teacher found out that we skipped his class just to play arcades,so he went looking for us (thanks to a rat that told on us) and found us on the arcades playing so he yelled at us and told us that if we did not come
    back to the school with him, he was going to fail us all in one subject (out of around 6 that we had a year), so we told him that the Street fighter was more interesting and important than his stupid subject! We all got failed in math subject for the whole year… totally worth it. So yeah pretty much in love with the game and it change my life because I got grounded for two continuous summer holidays… but totally worth it, somebody had to teach Mr. Cortes to show respect for our favourite game.

    Not happy at all with the Van Damme street fighter movie either, we bashed it and for about a year, saying why everything with that movie was wrong, my heart was shattered with that movie… but was OK once the arcade brought the street fighter alpha series.

    So I’ve found Capcom to be my favourite games developer, I love everything capcom releases, devil may cry street fighter, lost planet, megaman, resident evil (specially the remake of the first one for the gamecube!, simply brilliant!), darkstalkers, viewtiful Joe, etc. I even kind of liked mega man legend for psx…

    Dead Rising has had a profound impact on my life, every time I visit a hardware store now I can’t help but picture how I will kill every last person in the store with each tool. When mowing the lawn I can’t help but think of using it at a Big Day Out concert to clear out the crowds.. the patio umbrella could be used to clear out family members after a bbq… the list goes on.

    I obsessed over this game for hours on end, knowing that one day these skills will come in handy once I snap from having to reload from a far away save point each time I played the game.

    Street Fighter.
    I have tried so many Fighters since the first on the Atari 2600 but for me Street Fighter was it, It had attitude, it had real chracters and best of all each one had its own special moves and yet overall the game balance is as good as it got.
    How did it change my life?
    Lets put it this way, I still have my original floppy disks and Bpx in mint condition and on top of this I still get to whittle away much of my life playing it from time to time, because I have kept and maintained my old Pentium 2 x400 with a Geforce2 MX400 GPU so I can.
    As soon as I can afford it I will get the Street Fighter for PC but I think I will still be going back to play the original of the 3 1/4″ floppy disk.
    Ooooo!! so many hours I have enjoyed thrashing my son in Street Fighter, well mostly I win anyway. No No No, its true, I promise hehe!.

    My first Capcom game was none other than the excellent side scrolling platformer “Ghouls’n’Ghosts” – I only had a Master System, which meant that the MS conversion of GnG was handled lovingly by Sega – but WOW what a beautiful looking game. Pumping colourful sprites and haunting music out of the humble Master System was no easy feet – yet this game had it all. Multi-level armour (getting Arthur down to his jocks instilled a sense a dread and fear – only one more hit until I was dead!) or unveiling a magician who could turn you into a duck added a level of charm to the game – the excellent level mechanics (who could forget fighting against the wind and rain in one of the earlier levels), and lets not talk about the end of game boss battle – probably because I’ve never been good enough to get to him. That doesnt matter though, it was still a gold game and I knew from that point on what was capable for the Master System and what a good game company was able to do with limited hardware and an excellent idea.

    When I was 6 I got my first console, a NES. Now Mario or Duck Hunt or Excite Bike or any of those games didn’t really challenged me. Then I got my hands on Bionic Commando and I CURSED Capcom! I COULD NOT FINISH IT! After about 6 months of solid trial and error, finding which radios and pieces of equipment worked on which stage, I worked out the order (I was only allowed 1 hour a day on video games before I was 10). To this day Rad Spencer has always held a dear place in my heart as the most killed off video game character I’ve ever been in control of.

    Oh man, Power Stone, a name I haven’t heard in years.
    Here’s my story.

    This would be the first, and last time I would ever touch a Dreamcast.
    It was about… Late 2000, I was about 10 years old then, Mum had dragged me on a long road trip across state, and it was pretty damn boring.
    That was until we had come to visit an old family friend, I had never met them, mum knew them though, they had 2 kids around the same age as me.

    I was a pretty shy kid back then, I always stayed with my mum, never played with other kids, and I had kept it that way for the first part of the day, that was until one of their kids came up to me and asked if I wanted to play.

    By the way:
    The only game console I ever played and owned at the time, was the Sega Megadrive, Alex the Kidd in Miracle World to be exact, Yes… The game that came built in with the Sega.

    I had agreed to play, The Dreamcast’s controller was big in my hands, at least, that’s how I remember it.

    They put Power Stone in, I was 10, 3D was AWESOME,
    and it still is awesome to this day.

    We played for hours and hours, we ate dinner when dinner was ready, then we ran back to play some more! Taking turns fighting.

    I always played as Fokker, He was awesome, and his name always made me laugh, I’m sure you’ll know why 😛

    So, the first time I really got into playing games, was by playing Power Stone, a state over, on a console that I may never see and play again.

    And now in the present I think… Fokker was the Japanese name for Edward Falcon, Why would I remember the name Fokker so clearly though?

    I must have been playing an import.
    Awesome…

    I played Alien Vs. Predator arcade religiously for years in high school. It left me broke and possibly secured Timezone’s survival in Perth longer than was otherwise possible.

    But my best memories of it are the fact that my younger brother and I could call a truce to traditional sibling rivalry for awhile whilst dispatching a veritable tonne of Alien scum!

    Now anytime I find a stray cabinet at a cinema, or the back of a fish and chip shop the memories come back and I feel obliged to drop a few dollars. Thanks Capcom.

    I came to gaming a little late in life, so it was Resident Evil 4 on the Wii that did it for me with Capcom. I’ve just moved to a new city to study, I knew no one, and was living in a dingy little one-bedroom unit. With my first paycheck for teaching, I bought a Wii bundled with RE4. It was love 🙂 The graphics, the story, the creepy soundscape, the screaming with terror as I got attacked, that it managed to keep me awake for an entire weekend (turns out I’m a slow gamer too!)

    I’ve gone to play nearly all the Phoenix Wright games from Capcom (objection!), but it was RE4 and Capcom that got me through a crazy weekend alone in a new city.

    My love for Capcom can be traced back to when I was a little boy growing up on a farm in central western NSW. We would all get in the car once a week to travel the one hour drive to do the weekly shopping. One day I was browsing the toy section of Grace Bros when I noticed a crowd gathering around a TV. They had set up a Super Nintendo and a copy of Street Fighter II. It was love at first sight.

    Unfortunately there were many (much bigger) kids in line, so I could not play the game myself. But it would become my obsession. All the following week I thought about that game, and those amazing graphics.

    My adrelanin was pumping when I arrived at the shop the week after. But alas, there was a kid playing it already, and a couple more in queue.

    Week after week I would obsess about that game, and week after week I would find myself disappointed when I arrived at the shop, only to be denied a chance at playing. Eventually the SNES setup was removed from the store, and my hopes were dashed once and for all.

    Until Christmas that year, when I awoke to find that Santa had left me a shiny new Super Nintendo and a copy of Street Fighter II. I can still remember the goosebumps of excitement I got when loading the game for the first time.

    Years have passed, and other games have come and gone, but my heart still seems to race just that little bit faster when I see that blue and yellow logo on the screen.

    I heart you Capcom 🙂

    While its tempting to talk about Megaman in the spirit of Capcom games (especially X and X4!), I think I’ll dedicate this to the surprise I found back in ’98 on my Saturn – Vampire Savior. It was a massive investment at the time – I had just entered the crazy world of imported gaming on my beloved but mistreated Saturn with a Pro Action Replay 4-in-1 cart when Vampire Savior strutted onto the scene in the wake of the supreme X-Men vs Street Fighter. Having only dabbled with Darkstalkers on the Saturn, I figured it was a good opportunity to use my hard-earned money to import Vampire Savior with a 4mb RAM cart and check it out. The only problem is that there was no way to play the game on my PAL system since the game needed to use the cart slot for the new cartridge, and the slot was already occupied with the 4-in-1 cart as I needed it to boot Japanese games! So, I asked around and found someone who lived interstate who knew of a place where my Saturn could have a fancy switch added to the machine. It is in fact this event that makes this purchase such a life changing one!

    You see, the friend who lived interstate also had some ties to the gaming industry, so not only did he take care of getting my Saturn fitted with a territory-selection switch to multi-region it without the need of my Pro Action Replay (and thus freeing up my Saturn’s cartridge slot for the lovely 4mb cart), he also threw in a couple of extras with the return postage. One was an old copy of Fighters Megamix that was laying around the place, but the other was a PAL copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga – he explained he didn’t need it any longer, and happily passed it along (!!!).

    But wait, there’s more! Because the 4mb RAM games relied on a 60hz refresh rate to sync up the audio to the on-screen action, playing them on my PAL Saturn caused all sorts of audio skipping. I found out a year later in 1999 that it was possible to fix this by adding a switch to your Saturn that boosted it to 60hz, and not only would this fix the audio skipping, but it would also speed up all your games so they were identical to their original NTSC versions and make them full-screen as well! And so began my obsession with console mods. After whetting my appetite on the 50/60hz switch on my Saturn, I proceeded to add language switches, 50/60hz switches, region switches, colour mods and custom A/V mods to all my old consoles to get them as universal as possible. It completely opened the floodgates for retroactively importing games for all my systems, repairing old consoles that would break down, and ensuring that every system could play my games the way the creators originally intended. I even managed to do some retro console modding work while I was at Uni to earn some extra money, which I probably spent on games, anime, DVDs or booze 😛

    Oh, and it also got me right into the Darkstalers series of games, and I happily spent hours learning the intricacies of Vampire Savior and appreciating its extreme awesomeness.

    So thanks for the memories Capcom – without intending to, you led me to become on obsessive console-modding nerd 🙂

    The one Capcom game I obsessed over when I was a wee lad was Ghosts N’ Goblins. I played it all the way to the end only to find out (as we all know now) that it wasn’t really the end if you didn’t have the cross. I swore and cursed so much as the bastard of a thing took me all the way back to the beginning of level five and I had to do it all again. After that I resolved to make that game my bitch and I still put it through it’s paces to this day when I feel like some self abuse (’cause it’s still fucking hard!)

    The original Devil May Cry was the Capcom game that changed the way I looked at action games forever.

    I remember when I the first cinematic began and there was Dante being stabbed through the chest, with his own sword no less, only to get back up and start walking across the room with the implement of destruction still sticking out of said chest. That was the moment I realised that this game was more brutal than any action game I’d played previously.

    And it only got better from there; running around the confines of Mallet Island, picking up numerous demonic artifacts and, most importantly, unleashing destruction on any demon that tried to get in the way.

    Sure, a lot of the dialogue was cheesey, but it was all a part of what made Devil May Cry what it was; let’s face it, who couldn’t help but have a smile across their face during the now infamous “dark soul with liiiiiiiight” speech?

    It was the game that started my love for the DMC franchise (to this day I own a copy of every single DMC game, including the never spoken of number 2) and I’ve got Capcom to thank for giving it to me.

    Looking back at it I must have spend between $300 to $500 (of that time) on poor little Arthur trying to rescue the princess, and although I never managed to finish it I really enjoyed the game, the atmosphere, the sound, the humour, the variety of weapons (how much did the torches suck?).

    I borrowed my neighbour’s NES just to play this game and his parents had to talk to mine to get it back!

    Heck! Just talking about it, I think I’m going to install MAME and get the ROM although now that I think about it, that may be illegal …hummm. Maybe I’ll make a trip down to Cash Converters to see if I can get an old NES and the cartridge???

    The capcom game that really did change my life was Megaman X. I remember the day I got it very well. Since this was the early 90’s I was busy playing my sega master system obsessing over games like wonder boy 3 and time solders. But all this would change on Christmas when I got the SNES, I remember it sitting under my tree in bright blue wrapping paper with 2 smaller presents near it. After unveiling the console and having a “Nintendo 64 kid” moment of my own my dad set it up and I opened my games for it. One was Super soccer. While that game was awesome (I always played as team Romania) and have clocked in over 100 hours playing it. It was the other game that blew me away and ushered me into the world of 16 bit graphics.

    I had never played a game like megaman before, While I was a fan of early side scrolling games everything about this one blew me away. The music was no longer midi loops with 3 note tracks, it was an awesome futuristic techno sound that fit perfectly with the setting. The graphics pretty much flawed me as well. Every background, enemy, pun and effect was rendered with these awesome bright colours.

    This was the first game that had some level of strategy to it. Every other game I had ever played before could be summarised as the following, Start game, get through level jump on boss’s head start level 2. This game was different. You could do the levels in whatever order you wanted to. Beating each level would have some effect on another level. I remember always doing the Ice Penguin level first and getting the ice gun. This would in turn help me kill the electric ape much more easily. This essentially changed the way I looked at video games, no longer was it get from point a to b. I had to now really think about what I was doing.

    I remember sitting in my room with my brother going through ways we could get every single hidden thing in this game from those robotic hearts that would increase your maximum health by a few points to the secret helmet and “haduoken” power. We would spend countless lives jumping into pits seeing if it was a secret passageway to a hidden item.

    Megaman was also the very first game that made me feel any emotion towards a video game character (something that’s not easy for any video game to do). In the second last level your long time friend and ally “Zero” that has saved your ass on numerous occasions throughout the game Sacrifices himself in order to defeat a unbeatable boss. He jumps on the guys back and self destructs. This is the first time I ever felt sad for a video game character. This is really the first time I had felt sad for any fictional character in any medium. Sue I read books and watched tv but no character had the same emotional impact as Zero.

    When I had finally beaten the game I felt a sense of pride I had beaten sigma, I had beaten the final rat boss that only takes a single point of damage from a fully powered up x blaster strike even after doing that ridiculously overpowered fire move in between each movement.

    Even after the snes had run its course and the ps1 was out I still played this. Every now and then I would plug in my snes and try to beat it in one sitting. I ended up playing this game so much that even now almost 15 years on I can still recite the password for the last level from memory alone. The nostalgia I get when playing this game now just sends shivers down my spine it reminds me of the good old times when I was carefree just waiting for school to be over to go home and play. This is truly one of the best game I have ever played and will play for a long time.

    Back when I was a child I had an unhealthy obsession with zombies, unfortunately I had no idea just how scary they could be… My father one year for Christmas thought it fitting to buy his 12 year old son the Resident Evil remake for the Gamecube. I remember it like it was yesterday, the parents waking me up at 4 in the morning to open my presents cause lord knows they wanted the smile on my face more then I did. Seeing the RE1 cover filled me with glee, one of the greatest things I’ve ever gotten without paying for it myself, though playing this at 4 in the morning seemed fairly difficult as I got past the opening cinematic, then refused to go anywhere in fear that zombie dogs would break out of the wallpaper to devour me. This was not helped when my first move was to run for the front door… Although I was unable to play any further that night, I fell in love with the series from that day on…

    Growing up in the 90s, Street Fighter 2 defined video games and arcades for an entire generation.
    I remember vividly the first time I saw it in action at my local video store. It promptly took the 10 dollars I had on me and from that moment on I knew I was hooked, along with the rest of the kids from my class, from my street, in fact every kid I knew got sucked into that game.
    Pickup versus games at the local arcade, with the timeless ‘give second round’ rule, including fistycuffs when some cheeky newcomer failed to follow the protocol. Little toy shops in Hong Kong renting out SNES units with SF2 at 5 bucks per half hour. Then came the movie, countless bad clones, different versions where the real hardcore junkies would kick your behind with one of the new characters that you hadn’t learnt. That imposter of a fighting series, tekken, started appearing on the scene, riding on the wave of little grey playstation 1 consoles (“sony makes consoles? no way the new Sega / Nintendo must be better”). Button mashing came back into vogue. New contenders too came into the ring – the deliberate elegance of Virtua Fighter, the over the top weapons in Soul Caliber, and the long and sadly extinguished line of SNK fighters.

    Now things have come around a full circle with Street Fighter IV. A whole generation sampling yoga fire and sonic boom for the first time. But at its heart every fighter ever made since can trace its lineage right back to the godfather of arcade fighters, a generation defining childhood money sink known as Street Fighter 2.

    I cannot put my love of Capcom down to one single game, but rather two of their game series, these being Street Fighter and Resident Evil.

    As a child, I grew up with these games. My brother and his best friend, every weekend, would sit in our loungeroom playing Resident Evil 2 for hours on end, with me watching on intently. The scene where the Licker jumps through the 2 way mirror in the police station still makes me jump to this day. Capcom’s ability to tell a story, to keep the player interested, on the edge of their seat, and downright freaked out at times is what made Resident Evil 2 one of my favourite games, and one of the first games I ever played through to the end.

    As well as Resident Evil, there were neverending games of Street Fighter between my brother, his best friend, me, my neighbour, and pretty much half the people we knew in the area. I can still remember the first time I pulled off a Shroyuken: I was Ken, versing my brother, who was Akuma (or Gouki). That was the closest i had ever come to beating him. Since then, however, I have beat him many times, including twice on Street Fighter 4 in the arcade. My Street Fighters of choice are Alpha 3 (Zero 3), SF 4, and SF3: Third Strike (apart from Gill, cheap bastard). There is little in life that is more satisfying that a shinryuken… That, or the Shinshoryuken.

    Dead Rising, holy god that game had a hold on me, I spent an entire day running over zombies just to get the Zombie Genocider achievement.

    I spent four sweaty palmed hours trying to keep a squealing gaggle of female survivors alive long enough to get Frank the Pimp, losing one and then by pure luck finding that old lady on the golf ball.

    Even today I turn it on every once in a while and look at that 7 Day Survivor achievement and think. Maybe today, maybe I should do it, it’s only 15 hours of non stop play. Then I cry.

    Dead Rising is my gay cowboy, I just can’t quit it.

    Black Tiger (Black Dragon)
    Never, NEVER, have I been so addicted to a game. Not before, not since.
    The arcade addiction which many old school gamers have experienced. . . pumping 20c after 20c after 20c into a cabinet as you struggle to battle your way through level after level. Learning the patterns, creature habits, timing movements.
    But ever so slowly the 20’s required begins to lessen, your skills improve. . . until, one day, you reach that pinnacle of arcade gaming Godness. . . an entire play through on a single 20c piece, using just one life.

    Black Tiger was that such game for me.
    A hardened warrior battling his was through countless demons, orcs, witches, snakes, skeletons, little blobby things (which I still dont know what they are) and of course the three great dragons.
    The, at times, twitch game play requiring speed and precision to navigate the areas, to just smashing down waves and waves of skeletons. The satisfying crunch of their bones as your chain mounted blade tears through them.

    But it was one particular sacrifice I made to play Black Tiger.
    My Grandmother had given me a limited release $5 coin. That was cashed in for a pocket full of 20’s. But the sacrifice was, in my eyes, justified. I was nearing my first completion of Black Tiger. I knew the moment was close.
    So, I pumped the 20’s into the cabinet and, finally, completed Black Tiger for the first time. The sacrifice was made but the reward was justified (even if parents just wouldnt see it that way).

    Every few months I still load Black Tiger in MAME to take me back to the days of old. But I can only dream of Capcom giving Black Tiger the justice it deserves and give it a fresh update for XBLA. Not a remake. No no no. Just update. Same game, updated (Im looking at you Capcom).

    The Capcom game that I obsessed over was Street Fighter 2. Back when I was only 8 years old I used to go shopping with my Mother. This was an exercise comparable to prolonged water torture. One day this would all change. As we pulled into the car park, parking towards the entrance, something caught my eye. A red cabinet was sitting to the left of Woolworths front doors. This red cabinet would manifest and evolve into an obsession that is the one dominant memory of my childhood. Playing Street Fighter 2 when my mother did the shopping turned into getting a SNES and Street Fighter 2 Turbo for Christmas. Next was the GI Joe Street Fighter action figures (these were 12 inch figures and my favourite of all child hood toys) where I owned Ryu, Bison, Guile and Blanka. Then came the custom knitted Ryu blanket from my Grandmother, which just so happened to be a blue knitted rug with a white stickman’esque figure with a red head band, completing this was “Street Fighters” incorrectly stitched underneath. I joined a Judo class, only to quit 3 weeks later as I only wanted the outfit to be Ryu. I played my SNES till my Mother banned me for over use, than went back to my room to play with my figurines. Street Fighter was my childhood and it dominates any memories I have. I was a 90’s kid, I had so much exposure to classic kids brands and I chose to love Street Fighter 2.

    I never knew such a beautiful existed until I met her. It was the Summer of 1998 and I remember it clearly. The sky was bright, the flowers were blooming and Home & Away had just been cancelled by FOX. It was the perfect summer afternoon. I was just about to go over to a mate’s house to have a few beers when I got a spam email in my inbox. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing… it was the most incredible thing I had ever seen – I just HAD to have her! Wait, look! She’s making a special appearance at Big Dub today! With that, I got into my car and raced down to the shops to see if I could spot her anywhere.

    I knew it would be a long shot, I mean after all what would an absolutely gorgeous thing like that want with a moderately attractive troll like me? The next minute there I was; staring her in the face. I wanted to say hello but my mouth was dry and my mind was racing. I didn’t even have the courage to ask what her name was! I looked down at the writing on the plastic attached to her outer shell… “Claire”. Her name was Claire. My mum’s name is Claire.

    Oh she told me about the adventures at Raccoon City, the evil she faced and the unspeakable torment she went through. I grabbed her. I held her close to my heart and said, “that’ll do pig… that’ll do… you had me at hello.” and before I could quote a line from When Harry Met Sally she swept me off my little German feet and rushed me to All Saints where I was pronounced dead at 4:43pm… but was later revived.

    That afternoon I built up the courage, went straight over to where she was sitting, grabbed her – swung her around and said “I’m taking you home, baby! We belong together”. With that, she smiled. That night we made love. It was like for the very first time in my life I had something to hold onto, to never let go, and to cherish forever.

    That year we got married… in the winter of 1998 I took Chris – I mean, Claire – to be my lawfully wedded wife. It was the happiest day of my life. You will never be alone again… I love you RE2.

    Capcom enters the picture in the 13th Chapter of my life, at the tender age of 13. Picture one Nintendo GameCube and one copy of Resident Evil. Picture a short blonde haired blue eyed boy. Picture a late night in the middle of winter. Picture me, actually screaming during the scariest moment in that game (I don’t have to tell you which right, its obvious). Enter my parents. I am ordered of to bed, my adrenaline still pumping. The GameCube vanishes. The game disk appears in the trash, broken in two.

    Surely is would stop any ordinary 13 year old. Surely.

    Not I. Despite multiple groundings and a cutoff of my pocket money I continued in my quest to finally finish the game. Through careful planning and a helpful friend I was slowly able to beat the game over a period of 3 months.
    But the story doesn’t end there.
    You can’t play through such a central game to the entire Resident Evil franchise just once. Weapons and new costumes were slowly unlocked, marking time as more months past. And what months they were.
    This game changed my life, teaching me how one should not always play in the dead of night during winter. I also learned the true value of friendship, and how a simple game disk can bring two old friends together to play as a team. Thank you, thank you, Resident Evil Remake. You will forever hold a place in my heart… forever (whispers)…

    I still remember playing Street Fighter 2 with my cousins in the arcade when i was 6, then going home to play it on our snes at home. We couldn’t afford to go to the arcade much and when we did we got whooped by all the older kids but we still kept going back, it was so much fun. I remember at home we had everyone all huddled around the snes taking turns playing versus and trying to beat m.bison in arcade, even my cousins 40 year old dad!

    It was crazy, we were addicted to that game for years and i think it was a wicked bonding experience with my cousin and my dad. I think SF2 is the reason i still love gaming to this day and i can’t wait to play Street Fighter 7 with my kids.

    Simple, Street Fighter II on the SNES. When I was young I was from a poor family, so I never had a ‘current’ games console. Pretty much when SNES launched I got a 2600, 64 saw me get a NES and so on…

    Anyway, when I was around 7, the carnival was in town. After riding extremely unsafe rides and eating delicious carnie food we decided to visit sideshow alley. In between the impossible to win ball tossing games & very sexually suggestive ‘hungry’ clowns was a tent who’s game was simple: buy a set of 10 tickets whose combined values correspond to the different ‘rungs’ of prizes. And that’s where I saw it, sitting atop the plethora of stuffed Bart Simpson dolls & plastic bow ties, as if it were Grand champion of the prizes, was a SNES Street Fighter II bundle.

    At this point it’s pretty clear where this is going, boy buys tickets, tickets add up to SNES, carnie begrudgingly hands boy his prizes. 2/3 of that scenario are true, once the tickets added up, were double & triple checked , some knowledge was laid on the boy. The SNES box was empty and was never intended to be won. Luckily my Mum was never one to back down from an argument so after much yelling, threatening with legal action and begging (on the carnie’s part), I was handed a wad of cash and asked not to go to ‘A Current Affair’.

    It was the year of ’96. Chess computer “Deep Blue” defeats world chess champion Garry Kasparov for the first time, and the Chicago Bulls go on to win their fourth NBA Championship…

    A world away I would watch the swallows swooping in the barn of my parent’s home as they were carried on a summer breeze. I would whittle while I watched, carefree as only the innocent of youth can be. It was only later that year that I would be transformed by a discovery – and a hunger for flesh.

    Resident Evil…

    I played this game and I was changed. It opened my eyes to new possibilities, and the potential of mankind; things I had never dreamed of! Such was my love for this game that I knew I had to make its vision a reality. And so my genesis as a mad scientist began.

    My first experiments to create a zombie toad were disappointing. My ambitions to make the amphibious undead were only half realised. I had mastered the ‘dead’ part but the ‘un’ still eluded me. While frustrated by my lack of progress I was determined to continue.

    It was only later that I discovered that my self-experimentation had caused my mind to become increasingly erratic, often causing me to unwittingly omit large amounts of information when telling a story. And that’s how I became the Queen of Sheba. But I will forever be marked by one of Capcom’s greatest franchises.

    Resident Evil 3.

    I was always that kid whose parents wouldn’t let him play or watch scary things, so one day at school I heard about this RE3 game from a friend, and I sneaked out on the weekend and hired it.

    Part of me wishes I didn’t. I was scared out of my mind. But the other part of me, wow, was in love. Sadly I had to return it on the Monday (and I only played part of it, because I was so scared!) and I confessed to my parents what i had done. They didn’t care.

    Several years after, I found a copy of it and picked it up. I am glad I did. It’s such a fantastic game.

    Back in the day my friend and i finaly got sick of metal gear solid and longed for a new game we decided that we wanted to get a resident evil game because frankly zombies are awesome.

    Unfortunatly my mean parents did not buy buy M15 games for me and certainly wouldnt break that belief when they looked at the box.

    But i knew you could buy old games on ebay and convinced my parents that this educational game Resident evil 2 was really rare and worth way more then the $20 bucks they were asking for it.

    when i finaly got it my friend and i played though the leon campaign every saterday until we finaly finished it (which actualy took a few weeks cause we had no idea what we were doing) but left it at that because we were too scared of the tyrant in clare’s campaign (fighting birkin was bad enough for us in leons =D )

    ultimatly Resident evil 2 sticks out in my mind not because of how great it was but because of the fun i had playing it with a friend and the thrill of playing such a frightening game for teh first time.

    My earliest exposure to the gaming company that would later blow my mind with devil may cry and future street fighter titles, was Bionic Commando on the NES.

    At the age of 9 and even now I couldn’t fathom the words to describe mine and my older brother’s love for the game. The whole concept of swinging from place to place was really a semi spiderman/indiana jones dream come true and it never got old. I remember the first time me and my bro got up to the flying ship boss fight, we had no idea what to do. We ended up leaving the game on pause for 8 hrs, consulting my uncle who was an insanely talented Super Mario Brother Player. He introduced the concept of ‘timing’ to me and my brother and we worked out how to climb the damn thing and shoot its weak spot without getting fried by the moving flame jets which looked impossible to get through.

    This feeling of epic accomplishment was trumped soon after when continuously dying, trying to shoot Master D’s cockpit with a rocket launcher. I’ll never forget the feeling of this first time accomplishment. A powerful wave of achievement filled me with glee to the point where i had one watery eye and one big ass smile on my face mainly because I beat my brother to it in our taking turns at the game.

    However it was him who completed the final and most exciting final challenge of escaping the exploding base. He claims he knew that he needed to get hit in order for the claw to reach the higher platform, but i reckon it was blind luck. This game’s finale will forever be immortalized in my mind as one of the greatest of all time… what a rush ! what a game!

    Alien vs Predator (Arcade). Oh the glory. The brutality! I’d play it and think that this is what killing endangered animals must feel like. No game since has given me the same sense of bloodlust. I played it so much it made me a vegetarian. Out of guilt. For the aliens I’d slaughtered.

    Back in the day when I was but a young pup, around 11 years old, I played my first game of Street Fighter II, and it changed my life.

    It was the afternoon of another summer school holiday down in sleepy Hobart, and looking to fill the day, my older brother and I took the bus into town to go to the movies. My brother was 16 at the time, and was very much a father figure for me..

    When we arrived at the movie theatre, we saw a large group of kids huddled around a new arcade machine that had been put in. That machine was Street Fighter II.

    We peered over shoulders, trying to catch a glimpse of the action, delighting in the intro music, jeering as someone got whooped, gasping as we saw a new special move. It was a sight to behold, the group of kids so excited and enraptured by the pace of the action, the opportunity to face an unknown opponent, to be king of the kids.

    My brother put some coins down for us, and we waited for our turn. Eventually my brother got his turn to play and I watched with pride as he used Ken to take out the previous winner in a tight three round game. This brought me to the machine.

    I looked at the rows of buttons and asked what they did: “I don’t know” said my brother. “Some are punches some are kicks.”

    I was in a daze. The onlooking group of kids, facing my older brother in a fight to the death, an unfamiliar game… The pressure was immense.

    Looking over the characters I selected the one I liked the look of most: Blanka.

    Now this may seem strange, but I quickly realised a few seconds into the first round that I didn’t know how to jump. I just remember trying all the buttons, and none of them made Blanka jump. My brother kept jumping in with a heavy kick, smacking me right in the head. I was being dominated.

    Things quickly changed when I found the heavy punch button and realised I could use it to knock Ken out of the air when he was flying in at me. I used it again and again, taking him out cleanly each time. I won the first round.

    I looked up and saw my brother was furious! He’d lost to his little brother in front of a group of his peers! I asked him how to jump. He was so incensed he wouldn’t even tell me.

    The second round started and I found Blanka’s electricity move. I made short work of Ken.

    When the din died, I was king of the kids. My brother had been defeated. I had beaten the person I aspired most to be, and it changed our relationship for ever. From that day forward I beat my brother at every computer game we played. Even now I have the wood on him on anything we pick up. And it all started with Street Fighter II. It turned me into a man, a champion amongst the throng, it lifted me up and carried me away.

    Way back in the early 1990s i never played a videogame in my life, but I was curious about videogaming then on one birthday mum and dad gave me an NES and along with it Megaman 5…it was a beatiful birthday and I still remember my dad sitting at my side watching me play the Gravity Man stage which in his and my mind was very well done…upside down fighting was so new to us that when we saw it and experienced it we never thought anything else would be so cool. Ever since that day my dad and I continued to play Megaman 5…the sad thing was that back then we could not afford to buy that many games, in fact when the SNES came out I still stuck with the NES becuase we could not afford the SNES, but me and my dad extended our love with Megaman 5 by doing different things, i still remember we took out the stopwatches and a had a time-attack mode and see who finishes the level first, we also had a contest to see who can use charged shots the most in a level and as you know thats pretty hard to do with all the enemies coming at you. To this very day i still have my Megaman 5 and my dad still loves to watch me play…So simply Megaman 5 helped me bond with my father.

    Super Street Fighter II HD Remix.
    Wow, this game was hyped.
    and i should have joined in.
    I was a some, what can i say, noob, if that, to street fighter, and im a sucker for hyper (Haze…), so i gave it a shot. Man was this epic. I’m a sucker for 2D games, its a passion, the glorious colours, movement, graphics, truely a unique type of art. Anyway, this game was absolutely amazing, i was struck, my grades slipped, my girlfriend broke up with me, but still all my love and respect was thrown in to the TV. Capcom, you are great. Yes, the whole girlfriend thing was abit of a mess, but i love you more, much more. I sprinted to EB, took out my savings (yeh..well..yeh..) and put a full pre order on Street Fighter IV, locked myself in my room, and just didn’t want to think about it, i would go absolutely crazy.
    The day came.
    2 Days later, i started having thoughts of preposing to Capcom.

    Dude, seriously. I love them.

    My love for all things Capcom began with my cousin. He was several years older than me and I always looked up to him. I’d sleep over at his house during the summer break and we’d hang out and play video games. I’d say it really all began with Mega Man. We’d start by taking turns to play, first I would attempt the level and then when I died I’d pass him the controller to finish the job. He taught me that there was an order to the bosses, each unlocked weapon was the weakness of the next on the list. When we got to the Wily stages I no longer wanted to play and instead relished my role of spectator. cheering my cousin on and yelling at the TV when ever the NES “cheated”. We repeated this formula with each new Mega Man released…

    A few years later he got a SNES and with it, a game called Street Fighter II. It was his birthday and all his older friends were there. I was 10 and was more than a little nervous around them but they got me to play a game against one of them. No one had any idea how to play and when I, playing as their favourite character Guile, managed to pull of the first sonic boom (completely by accident) Well, I’ll never forget how great that felt. I got Street Fighter II Turbo for my own SNES and so began my love for all things Street Fighter. I now own every SF game from the original Street Fighter all the way to Street Fighter IV and all the anime and comics in between.

    Fast forward through time once more. I’m 14 years old. We’ve drifted apart over time but now I’m at his house again and he shows me a new game he got. Resident Evil. He let me borrow it and that night I played non stop, partly because the game was so good, partly because I was afraid to go to sleep. I stuck with the series across the PSX and PS2, revisited on the GameCube and now on the Wii and PS3.

    My cousin died in an accident shortly after my first trip to Racoon City. Now, more than 10 years later, when I play a new game, especially ones from Capcom, It like he’s still here, watching me play. That’s why I love Capcom games and I only wish he were still alive to love them as well.

    Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo on the SNES. I spent hour after hour at a friend’s place in primary school playing this game. The main part of the experience that sticks out for me though, was the cheat code to unlock the faster turbo modes.
    This cheat (Down, R, Up, L, Y, B) had to be entered as the word TURBO flashed across the screen during the boot sequence. If you didn’t hit this combo just right, you had to turn the console off, boot it back up and hope your fingers were fast enough to get it this time. I swear we spent more time entering the code than we did playing the actual game.
    Anyway, one day, my friend’s Mother came into the room and asked if she could play some games with us. He had obviously been waiting for this moment. He quickly turned of the game we were playing and slammed in the SSF2T cart. He then asked his Mum to leave the room while he “set it up”. After about 10 minutes he got the code entered and had deviously setup his mother with no special moves and set it to the fastest play speed (via the cheat menu). After demolishing his Mum in around a minute, she left the room looking very unimpressed, and my friend celebrated his “Ultimate” victory.

    Seems to be a lot of epic posts here, so i’m gonna keep this short and sweet.

    I’m obsessed with Capcom’s Versus series and have on several occasions written out possibilities of a full fledged Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 fantasy. Complete with diagrams for special moves for all 70+ characters, including support characters (a la Marvel Vs. Capcom 1) specialised rival matches, detailed right down to the layout of the character select screen. Best of all are the characters including all the crazy, nerd-salivating cross-overs and OTT 2D Fighting that has me loving Capcom in the first place. Just picture it! The bosses from Mega Man 1 versus Ghost Rider! Daredevil against Falcon (Power Stone) or an Akira (Rival Schools)/Spinal (X-Men) cat fight!

    “THE PUNISHER” This arcade machine took most of my pocket money. But i was the biggest fan of the comics and i wanted to see who was going to be the next boss. I’m not sure if it changed my life but it certainly changed my bank account.

    Mega Man X on the Snes.

    This has since I played it many years ago remained the standard by which all Mega Man Games (side-scrollers) are measured. No other in the series had given me such a consistent pleasurable experience. What little story there was was enough to intrigue me (Sentient Robots were/are cool). The game-play balance is what kept me coming back. Finishing the game with only the X-Buster is a strangely compelling experience. How it changed me is as follows:

    I was refuelling my sub-tanks on armoured armadillos stage when on my last run through there was an upgrade machine that was not there before. Upon activating it I saw Dr. Light dressed like a martial artist, he offered me the Hadoken! This was to my knowledge my first experience with cross game reference.

    Being a Street Fighter and Astro Boy fan at the time, two of my favourite things had come together. Sentient robots and fireballs. The game didn’t tell you how to perform the move, it seemed to expect you would know how to do it. It also never explains how he can only do it with full health. That was great. Kills every one except the last boss in one hit too. I didn’t realise I wanted games to have optional stuff that did not feel necessary to beat a game until then.

    I still pull it out every year or so for a sort of zen like run through the game. Getting the hadoken for me turned a great game into a classic.

    Street Fighter II on the snes really connected with me in my childhood. This game filled in the void of my parents love(at that time divorced) and really allowed me to relax and calm myself down while I was punching Sagat with Ryu. My father did not care about me spending hours in front of the television just as long as I was happy. He would later buy me more snes games but I would constantly go back to Street Fighter II and try to prefect myself at that game. If it were not for SFII, I would most like of been sad in my childhood and would not of lived at least a normal boy.

    The Capcom game that changed my life would have to be the Legend of Zelda, Oracle of Ages. It made me re-evaluate my plans for a future. Greatest guitarist the world had ever seen, able to make any girl swoon with my amazing looks and awesome playing, or prevent the world from evil with my amateur sword abilities. Well, after playing Oracle of Ages countless times, my path was clear. No amount of bullying would sway me from my destiny. “Sticks and stones make break my bones”, I would cry! My ambitions were clear. Soon after being kicked out for being a weird kid who dressed in green, I set about traveling the world, finding enemies intent on destroying the peace of happy people everywhere. I faced many bosses, picked up many boulders and launched them, shot out many seeds, but I never game up! Needless to say, this journey still continues to this day. I’ve aged through this quest, but I still battle on.
    Capcom and Zelda really changed my life!

    Street Fighter 2 is easily one of my all time favorite and most influential games I’ve ever played, and it’s not just the hundreds of hours I spent with my friends playing it at the arcades. Or the fact that my friends and I used to sneak out of school every lunchtime to be able to play it without the queues. Or that I played it so much on the SNES that the habit of inputting the cheat to unlock the alternate costumes when the Capcom logo appeared, caused my hands too automatically perform the same button input every time I saw a Capcom logo appear in any game for the next 2 years. Or even that warm fuzzy feeling I still get every time I see the the Capcom logo displayed in a game. It’s because it was Street Fighter 2 that made me decide that when I grow up I want to play video games for a living.
    Now I’m a videogame tester for a development company in Melbourne, and I love my job.
    Thank you Capcom, you changed my life.

    Ever heard of the term blood, sweat and tears? Well I achieved such a thing when I was seven or eight years old for the Capcom game, Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes. I played it for the first time when I saw my brother playing it. Well he gave me a controller and basically I lost as he was like fifthteen years old. Being older he would beat me at games. This was no different. I got beaten by him when using spidey and also Ryu. I was neither good at hadoukening or doing any other really special thing so I decided to try to get better at the game. The only time I could really practice Marval vs. Capcom was by waking up early at 4.40 am (no joke I actually did that like when I was seven). I played for probably an hour or two hours until I could finish the arcade mode and beat Onslaught. Of course this probably made me better but it didn’t actually seem like it had when I played against my brother that day.
    So I repeated this routine for almost two weeks and after a lot of pain from blisters I had gotten after doing the same moves over and over I found out that I could use the special venom really well. Well when I finally beat my brother two weeks after he had got the game well I was happy as hell. This was the first real game I became addicted to enough to want to beat my brother at. There were games that came before this that were fun but not as addictive and awesome.
    Marvel Vs. Capcom changed my life as it created my real lover for video games. Sure I liked them before but only as small fun. Putting blood, sweat and tears into this game probably opened my scope of games with characters like megaman, strider, captain commando and ever strider hiryu. This also created my current ability to stay up till four a.m. playing video games whilst still having a fairly productive day at school the next day. So hey I reckon anything that is like that is definitely worth it. I HEART CAPCOM cause of this game.

    Breath of Fire II – you own me and I, you. You were lonely, sitting there all by yourself on the video shop shelf, pushed aside from the other games, all bearing “Due back tomorrow” cards. I paid my money to the nice girl at the register and took you home. I wasn’t aware that this was not to be the ‘one night stand’ that I had paid my $4.50 for, but a relationship that would last forever. Night after night, rent after rent, saw me drained financially, but my love for you grew stronger, as the wallet of my local video store owner grew fatter. On several occasions I tempted your captor with money, pineapple in colour, but he knew I would be back for you, over and over and over again. It was not only I that longed for you to reside with me, but my wife grew fond of you as well. This bizarre ménage a trios was destiny.
    My days at work became a blur, as I tried to see the hours pass through heavy eyelids, caused by our sessions that often saw the sun rise. For months I had to take you back to your captor, pay my dues and sometimes leave you there until I was financial again… tearing me apart. One day, you captor was wooed by a shiny black disc and The Sony PlayStation was introduced to his store. But where were the army of black discs to be placed? You and your grey counterparts were to be exiled. The day came for your departure, masses crowded around the doors of your captor’s establishment, like rabid shoppers at Myers in the New Year. I forced my way thru the crowd, like a knight on a quest to rescue his princess, to the table where you and your brothers and sisters lay. The stars aligned that day as I saw you, untouched by ravenous hands. Possibly assaulting two people as I drove through the hoards, I grabbed you, clutched you close to my chest and met with the girl at the register once again. It was she who sealed our first meeting, so this was a fitting end to your captivity.
    Years later our love was rekindled, once again, when the Wii Virtual console offered you to the people, but you had to be mine once again, this time with no strings (actually cords) attached. For some reason, that just wasn’t enough. I wanted you to be with me where ever I was, so internet auctions was the place for our third romance, with the Gameboy Advance version of your glorious self now never leaving my Nintendo DS.
    This was a tale of a love that has lasted forever …. I also am currently looking for a job writing for Mills & Boon

    When I was eight Street Fighter II was all the rage. My older brother dominated at the arcade. When it finally came out on the SNES, he got a copy and continued to dominate it at home without the threats of physical violence for demolishing kids twice his size. In order to be allowed to even watch him play it in his room, not even playing it myself, I was told I had to sit under the bed out of sight and not make a sound or I would be kicked and then kicked out.

    The number of hours I spent beneath that bed for the mere privilage of watching my brother and his friends play Street Fighter is unfathomable.

    I’ve been a gamer my whole life, but there was a stage between 2006 and the beginning of 2007 where I completely lost all interest. I’d go months at a time without touching any of my games, and the few I did just couldn’t reinvigorate my gaming spirit. Now, seeing as gaming has always been a huge part of my life, it was pretty bad when something you love so dearly is lost to you.

    In the beginning of 2007 however, things took a turn for the better. A PS2 game was able to stand tall and have more attention then the new next-gen consoles that everyone was drooling over. A game heralded as one of the best most unique experiences one can have, and one that has been often compared to the likes of The Legend of Zelda in terms of gameplay. I am of course talking of Okami. Would this be the game to bring me back to life? I was certainly excited as hell for it, and I pre-ordered it instantly, so things were certainly looking bright.

    For the next few weeks, I was counting down the days to Feb 14th when I could hold it in my hands. When the day finally came, I was down at the store 9.00am sharp to plonk down my cash, and was even more excited when I saw a sign advertising that people who pre-ordered would get a free Okami T-shirt (which I still have to this day).

    Words cannot explain how awesome the next few weeks were with my precious. I clocked well over 40 hours with that game. I laughed, cried, was scared, joyful… the full range of emotions, as that game truly delivered like no other. The only time I was disappointed was when it ended, because deep down I knew I’d never play anything so masterful again. Incredible from beginning to end, and an absolute gem. I don’t know what more I can add to that.

    But the most important and special thing about the game for me? It reinvigorated my gaming spirit, and since then I’ve never looked back. I couldn’t be any more into gaming then I am now. The excitement of new releases is well and truly back (the latest I’m looking forward to is RE5, wink wink) and I couldn’t be happier.

    I love Capcom, and I love videogames!

    my capcom game choice is an obvious one, the choice being ghouls and ghosts. but my favourite memory is a good one. i have clocked every single platform version of ghouls and ghosts from nes to psp. about 5 years ago i found an arcade cabinet on a masssive screen i pursuaded the owner to let me have the cabinet for a $50 note and an hours play uninterupted. with the clock ticking and pressure on i clocked the game and completed the series. still one of my best gaming achievements

    Xmen vs Street Fighter took the cake for me, literally!

    I had a party at my local timezone! Of course every party had unlimited credits on all arcade games and an icecream cake provided by McDonalds. YES it was an icecream cake. YUMMMMM… anyway being the stupid person that i was back then, i wanted to eat the cake while playing my favourite fighting game, Xmen vs Street Fighter.

    BAD IDEA.

    i won against one of my mates and as i went to slam the arcade surface in pure excitement… i accidentally slammed the cake instead. Cake went everywhere! but it was my birthday so i didnt get into much trouble. THEN i got angry at myself because i couldnt play anymore because the workers were cleaning the cake off the machine. So forever till this day.. i get reminded of that memorable incident everytime i play a fighting game from capcom. Xmen vs StreetFighter still is one of my favourite capcom games.

    Capcom, it’s like bag of goodies. Since the Jurrasic Park came out (the best movie of all time), the games based on the movie seemed pretty much…crap. It is because they never hired Capcom.

    Dino Crisis!! best games ever, why? dinosaurs are vicious. Would you rather get chased by a slow brain eating human or Giant 4mtr T-Rex and Velociraptors, therefore provides the most horrific survival shooter ever.

    While other kiddies were enjoying their Resident Evil Game and getting scared out of the sofa by these slow things called zombies, i was experiencing the thrill shooting dinosaurs jumping towards me.

    Too bad DinoCrisis 3 was the last one and that was pretty much awesome way to end it all, dinosaurs in space…nice

    I played Devil May Cry 1, it was awesome. Then when I saw Devil May Cry 2 it picked it up instantly, I put it in my PS2 and played for 5 minutes. I didn’t touch my Playstation 2 for 2 years after that. My faith in gaming was destroyed!!!! You owe me Capcom, I missed out on 2 years of awesome PS2 games.

    When I was 7, after playing a round of Aladin on SNES I found a cure for cancer, saved an entire alien race from extinction and shared a can of mountain dew with Chuck Norris.

    Of course the sheer awesomeness of these events led to a reverse in the timeloop and created this pocket dimension where I am little more than a internet nerd sulkingly cramming down the mountain dew wishing Chuck was here with me.

    When I was 11, I was allowed to go to the arcades with my big brother. As I walked in for the first time I heard the intro music of the “CAPCOM” logo and then I saw it emerging on the screen. For some reason I got goosebumps and a magical feeling. And then I played the best game of my life….Street Fighter 2 : The World Warrior!

    Little did I know that from then on anything with capcom logo, in the arcade will be my favourites…and they really were! One hit after another…all my quarters and lunch money was going in the arcade machine which had a capcom title running. Later down the track, apart from having awesome visuals…the sound improved with Q sound. And even more smash hits – Final Fight, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, The Punisher came out…looking great along with the great Q sound.

    I loved the games so much that I wanted it near me…I wanted to play when I wanted than waiting in the Queue to play it. So I worked my arse off to buy my very own SNES along with capcom gems. I think nearly every console I bought was due to capcom. For example I was never into Nintendo gamecube…but after watching Resident Evil remake…I was awestruck…and again when I played Resident Evil 4.

    Capcom took 2d fighting to the next level when the marvel vs capcom series showed….way more intense than anything else! And I love capcom for keeping everything fresh…they never let anything go stale. They moved into the 3d world as well as keeping a firm grip on 2d gaming. I was a great fan of the horror theme and that came true when I played Resident Evil series on various consoles.

    I want to sincerely thank each and everyone @ Capcom for their presence in the gaming industry and providing titles which are epitomes of their particular genres. Capcom in every pixel in my heart of gaming. Thanks again.

    The day I bought my original playstation, my dad handed me a copy of resident evil 2. I’d never played the original, and I didn’t really know what to expect. Little did i know it would scare the living BEJEESUS out of me.

    It was hard to get used to, I’d never played a game where you had to be so conservative with your ammo. You had to constantly be thinking about the best way to take down a group of zombies without coming out of it with empty pockets.

    Just walking around the streets creeped me out. Dead silence except for the squelching of a zombie feeding on a carcass.

    The unspoken law of RE was that you had to play it in the dark, and by yourself.

    I broke that law as soon as I came across the first licker on the roof and it dropped down and hissed at me. Not being the seasoned gaming veteran I am now, I got stuck at that point, constantly complaining it was impossible to kill the damn thing. When I finally finished it off I couldn’t believe it.

    I’d never been so simultaneously challenged and scared but compelled to play on as I was in that game. Kudos capcom, I heart you.

    When street fighter 2 first came out I fell in love. I spent so many hours and so many $1 coins on that baby, I think legally we were married.

    Then it came out on SNES – no more trips to the arcade, we could play at home, alone, in my bedroom. I died for the joy of it.

    The Very first time I ever loaded it on my SNES, I challenged my much younger baby sister to a fight. I went with my guy, Ryu and she choose the only girl in the line up, Chun-li. I was foolishly cocky in my pre fight psyche out of her, ‘I was going to own her’, ‘she was going down’, ‘oh yeah, I have a fireball in my arsenal!’

    My little baby sister just pressed kick the whole fight and Ryu and my pride went down under the bombardment of chun-li’s kick attack.

    It was a very hard time for me, living through that shame, but my love for Capcom never wavered.

    I’ve always played capcom games as a kid. At first I didn’t know which developer made what but the one game that’ll always come in mind back in the game boy brick days was Mega Man 1. Megaman has always been one of the francise favourites, starting with Mega Man 1 on the GB where I’d spend hours and hours trying to finish every level, gaining every ability, outsmarting every enemy/trap/boss. It was quite satisfying as a child.

    Of course I moved on to the SNES and started with Megaman X inwhich was one of the best megamans I’ve played at the time. The world of Megaman was diverse with the multitude of hidden items and content it had. The bosses were interesting, the graphics were good, the levels were well designed and overall it was an extremely fun game to play over and over in an attempt to complete it 100%.

    My Megaman tales continued on the ps1 (because I could never find MMX2 on SNES 🙁 ) and I landed with MegaMan Legends. Legends was a new concept to me, having a Megaman esk hero in 3d with an almost completely new concept of gameplay. It showed to me how megaman has evolved from the 2D world to a vast 3D world on the ps1. The 3D megaman showed it had more than just a platformer, it had a story, it had humour, it had a multitude of things the old Megaman in the older consoles did not. I was playing a game where old concepts are still alive, although merged with the new.

    Then Megaman legends 2 came out, I was quite excited, although abit disappointed since it didn’t live out to be as great as the first Legends.

    Megaman has always been my hero as I was growing up. It was an iconic figure that Capcom has made for me during my childhood since it was the only recurring character I could relate to and feel that it was well designed and made.

    I remember the first time I came across megaman on the NES, it was at a friend’s place and when I played it I was blown away by the fact you could choose who you got to fight. To be honest I thought I was choosing who to play as originally, kinda embarrasing, I wanted to play as CutMan. Anyways from then on Megaman has been a game franchise VERY close to my heart. Even to this day those old games challenge me and the music and characters are absolutely timeless.

    I got my first console when I was 11 and it was a Nintendo Entertainment System. Being poor/cheap it took another few months of borrowing games from friends and video shops before I could purchase my first game. That game was Megaman 3.
    My most vivid memory of this game was the music hearing that intro for the first time drew my attention like no other song I’ve ever heard in any game before it. I remember several times loading up the game just to find myself listening to that intro run through a couple of times before I would go into the password screen.
    I must have played through the game several times in the first month of owning it, each level with its own unique yet memorable song, each boss with their special attacks and weakness.
    This game started my love for the series from they joys of playing through Mega Man 4 and 5 to the “wow” reaction to first playing Mega Man X. There were several dissapointments during the Playstion era but getting to play Mega Man ZX and Maverick Hunter X recently has given me hope and reminded me of my love for the little blue guy.
    I am looking forward to have the time and hardware to revisit an old friend in Mega Man 9, its like he never grew up.
    Thank you Capcom for the blistered thumbs and thank you Mega Man for many years of joy, frustration but ultimately

    Street Fighter 2 on the SNES was the first capcom game i played. I remember going to my cousin’s place every possible chance just to play that game. After a while i slowly drifted away from games until i stumbled upon another Capcom game, Megaman Zero on the Gameboy Advanced, which got me back into gaming.

    Slowly, one after another, i picked up numerous capcom series such as the Megaman; Battle Network, Zero and the original series, Devil May Cry, Phoenix Wright/Apollo Justice, Monster Hunter, Onimusha, the Capcom Developed Gundam games, and of course, the Street Fighter series.

    It was thanks to Capcom that i started gaming, and it was also thanks to them that i’ve started gaming after a brief hiatus and since then, never stopped gaming

    Marvel VS Capcom…
    Late 1990’s, a young man stands alone in a dark arcade.
    Before him… Marvel VS Capcom.
    I read Marvel, I play Street Fighter the two combined are greater than the sum of their parts.
    coin after coin are inserted into this magnificent marvel of mankind.
    The hours gladly spend gaining blisters from the 8 way stick 6 attack buttons.

    And then… the young man grows up. In the years that pass he takes his fancy from consoles and PC’s. But nothing is ever the same.

    The once young man visits his home town, while driving down the main road he sadly sees the once dark arcade that held so many memories was closed. A simple sign is posted on the door “All items to be auctioned” A twinkle glints in his eye “maybe” he whispers.

    $250 later and the machine was his, to have and to hold. It still holds pride of place in the family garage, ready for another generation to discover it’s neon beauty.

    I don’t think there can be just one game that defines why I ‘heart’ Capcom, but there are titles along the way that stand out for different reasons.
    Led Storm for my Amiga was one of the first, it’s fast-paced, addictive top down racing was rarely out of my Disk Drive, and even then, I could never beat it, due to it’s insane difficulty level. Black Tiger was one of the first arcade games I ever had the chance to play, and in 1987, it had the best looking graphics I’d ever seen. Combined with addictive platforming and an upgradable set of weapons, I recall begging for 20 cent coins from anyone who was willing to listen.
    This was followed a few years later with the film-to-game adaptation of the movie ‘Willow’, which was where I put most of my hard-earned paper round money, the rest going to titles for my NES, like Commando, 1942, and and the admittedly inferior console version of aforementioned Willow.

    The problem with my love for Capcom is that it has to be spread so thin. The titles mentioned above are a snapshot of my youth, and yet still remain eminently playable even today. I can call Mercs a ‘totally rad’ game, to use my older vernacular, and still apply this term to RE4. I’d still be happy putting money into a Snow Brothers arcade cabinet as much as forking over $100 for the inevitable RE6.

    Every time I think of a Capcom title, be it Street Fighter, the mighty Final Fight or Gun.Smoke, I’m reminded of the power and legacy that this company wields, and their effect on my life.

    So, hats off to you, Capcom. May our love affair continue into the future.

    Oh, and Tiger Road for Commodore 64 was the first game I ever broke a controller over. Man, I hate that game.

    Resident evil was the most affecting game I have ever experienced. I actually felt love for it. I would lie in bed and read the manual over and over (and eventually the books) and just get so into the story. The mystery of the mansion and the claustrophobia of being trapped there really resonated with my young cynical world view at the time. The Capcom logo was imprinted in my psyche from then and I grew up as they grew up following the resident evil series through its ups and downs aswell as spending QUALITY time on their other FANTASTIC series from Dino Crisis to Devil May Cry to Okami right up to Monster Hunter (my current obsession) becoming simpler and simpler in terms of story but giving me more in terms of satisfying gameplay to chew on. I didn’t even realise how many of Capcoms games I love until this competition and although there are a lot I didn’t get into I can appreciate now that Capcom are the most consistant game developer of all time and i have them to thank / blame for my continued love of gaming.

    I am keeping it short…..

    How could you not love Capcom, I remember playing Mega Man and Street Fighter in 87 showing my age there. Good old Captain Commando, I had a friend who was a Street Fighter fiend and brought the arcade machine.

    Then there is Resident Evil there is nothing else to say it has been a great series and so happy it is now hit the 360. Watch out for Umbrella Corporation.

    The game that has changed my world upside down is Capcom’s Resident Evil. Seriously there were no other games out there that was innovative like Resident Evil. It innovate how crappy dialogue still doesnt make a gameplay bad. Or how crappy B-actors made the game more cheesy. Sure there were other games in the field(AITD/Obscure), but they didn’t succeed so well. Capcom has made survival horror (and crappy dialogue) famous.

    Nevertheless, I’ll never forget that moment when the stupid dog jumped thru the window in the corridor, or when the Licker jumped thru the interogation window. And seriously because of that I’m now have become weary of windows at night.

    But yea, Resident Evil is one of those series that I have completed every game available. Like MGS and Devil May Cry, Resident Evil is one of those games that have forever change the way I look at games.

    Instead of making you laugh and bore you with endless repetition (casual games), Resident Evil have made me experience that you can scare yourself silly because of a game.

    I was dazzled by Mega Man back in the day and memorised the company name the moment I played it. Even now I can recite the boss order, beat the Yellow Devil without the ‘Pause Trick’ and hum you the ending music. Nothing could be finer. Thanks Capsule Computers.

    This one is actually quite different from most of the others posted here, but here you go.

    I’m an immigrant to Australia, and I moved here a couple of years to live with my dad. I hadn’t seen my dad in several years, and we didn’t have the best relationship, and I was very surprised when I came out here and it turned out he was suicidal. To cut a long story short, a few weeks after I arrived, he attempted to commit suicide, and failed after I contacted the emergency services.

    Now, I had just moved here, and was friendless, and watched as my home life was crumbling around me. My university hadn’t started yet, and I couldn’t find a job. I was worried I was going to spiral into depression, which is odd, because I’m naturally a very happy person. I just felt trapped, like I was being smothered by things I couldn’t control.

    On my birthday, I decided to treat myself and buy a DS, and a copy of Phoenix Wright, a game that had been raved about on the GameFAQS boards. I immediately fell in love with it. The characters (especially Gumshoe!), the humor, the outrageous gameplay, it was all perfect. They were just the pick me up I needed to get me through some tough times. When things were rough at home, and sometimes they got a little hard for me to bear, I just played a little Phoenix Wright to cheer me up, and make me realize that, you know, life isn’t really that bad.

    I imported the second game as soon as I finished the first, and here’s where Phoenix pulled through for me again. My home life was improving, and I had started University. While waiting for a class to start, I pulled out my DS and started playing, and one of my classmates game over to see what I doing. He was another Phoenix fan, and we hit it off immediately, and not to get sappy, but we became best friends.

    Now, I love a lot of what Capcom produces. I’ve often sacrificed whole weekends on beating that damn Dr Wily, but the reason I really heart Capcom is because of the Ace Attorney games. They got me through a really bad patch of my life, and not only that, allowed me to meet a couple of new friends. So, yeah, I guess you could say I heart Capcom, and Phoenix Wright especially, because they kept me smiling when I needed it most.

    Now I’m going to try and beat that damn Dr Wily again, while wondering if they are ever going to give us those release dates for Perfect Prosecutor.

    What the? Was there something in that window? Something pink and large? No. No, it was my mind playing tricks. It’s just a window.

    What the hell happened here? I just arrived in town to start a new job but there’s nobody here. And there’s something seriously wrong with the townsfolk. I’ve been forced to defend myself a number of times with deadly execution. Even though that Claire girl seems to be able to take care of herself, that doesn’t change the horrible wrenching feeling in my gut. A feeling that tells me something has gone very wrong around here.

    Sure, I’d heard the stories when driving here in my jeep. Stories about people being killed in the woods. Their remains being found with…bites taken out of them. Sounded rather horrific but I didn’t think anything of it. No, big tough Leon just thought they were campfire stories. Yeah, nice job Leon. Now you’ve arrived and the whole town’s gone nuts.

    There’s some weird sounds coming from upstairs. Scratching, something like an animal. Something that doesn’t sit right with me, that’s for sure. And who was the crackhead who designed this building? What kind of police station has fountains and statues all over the place?

    All I’ve got is my police issue Beretta and it’s already seen a lot of use. Surely…surely this can’t go on. I can’t actually be in this hell can I? Can this be real?

    I’ve just found a guy on the floor. A police officer who looks to be wounded. He says his name is Marvin. I’ll talk to him. Talk to him and try to found out what the hell happened. I sure hope that Claire girl will be alright. Me too, for that matter. I think I’ve made a big mistake coming to Raccoon City…

    Although there have been many legendary releases from the gaming Gods at Capcom, none have ever affected my life in a manner as profoundly as that of the fondly remembered and highly coveted Street Fighter II.

    My first exposure to the Street Fighter series can be traced back to the yesteryears of primary school, and the placement of a solitary machine at the local fish and chips store which was up the road from my family restaurant. Everyday after school, I’d witter countless hours away staring intently at the screen as gamers from around the town desperately sought to learn the intracacies of the newly discovered gem, and assert themselves as true masters of the game. For a country town devoid of any real entertainment (and possibly development given the fact that not even McDonalds or a cinema had been established at the time), Street Fighter II soon became a solid hit with the general populace. Mesmerised by the sheer beauty and brutality of it all, I one day mustered up enough courage to try it for myself, and after selecting Ryu was subsequently given the thrashing of my life by a cocky 18 year old controlled Blanka. The laughter and depracation that followed by him and his friends is a cacophonic echo that etched itself into the depths of my mind. Depressed by my inadequate skills, I left the fish and chips store for the final time, vowing under my breath that one day I would return and avenge my honour which had now been so bitterly tainted.

    The following week, the fish & chips shop was closed indefinitely, after a sudden outbreak of food poisoning became linked to the cleanliness of their kitchen. I still remember clawing at the windows in denial, refusing to believe that its closure would mark the end of my daily exposure to that which I held so dear. Inspite of the tears and frantic clawing, however, it was no use.

    Street Fighter II would grace its presence in our town no more.

    Four years passed…

    A nostalgic smile flashed across my face as I returned to my hometown once more, having spent a few years interstate with my sister. Things had changed, and for the better; there was now a cinema, KFC, and even a Woolworths had opened up, creating an illusion of a metropolitan feel and city slicker saviness. I hadn’t enjoyed living away from my parents, but one of the perks of living away had been complete freedom and reign over my sister’s SNES. With it, of course came the consequent purchase of Street Fighter II Turbo (saving a dollar a day had really paid off!).

    I had spent almost every possible moment indulged in breaking down the fundamentals of the gameplay, vowing to fulfil my promise to reclaim my lost pride and become a fighter worthy of recognition. Piece by piece it all began to fall into place for me, as fierce punches became fireballs, and standing forwards became hurricane kicks. As I became more confident with the motions and gameplay, eventually I began challenging opponents at nearby arcades until I was decent enough to topple even the most wary of turtlers and the most aggressive of pitbulls. With each opponent came exposure to different characters, varying playstyles, and of course the desire to become stronger. As the years passed, I knew… it was almost time.

    I will never forget the day I returned home and walked into the local video store, eager to meet a friend I had not seen in years, only to be confronted by a newly established arcade area, and a dusty old Street Fighter II cabinet hidden away in the corner. Hunched around the cabinet were three gaudy looking youths, and to my surprise… a familiar face.

    While slightly older looking and more maturely dressed, there was no mistaking the man behind the 1P stick for my former nemesis. Without a word, I slipped across to the seat beside him and shoved in my coins, desperately attempting to clear my thoughts of anything unnecessary.

    All that mattered was victory.

    Vengeance.

    The reclaimation of my honour.

    I’m still not sure what was more satisfying that day; the overwhelming victory I pummelled into my rival without so much as an inch of mercy, or the intense look of frustration and dismay on his face as his friends laughed at him for being between by a twelve year old.

    Either way, it was a day I will not soon forget.

    If I count how many hours of gaming time I spent, most of it would be with Capcom games. Playing the Megaman X series for days, playing Resident Evil in a dark room, slowing down time with Veiwtiful Joe and picking up Breath Of Fire IV for the first time were all good memories for me. The one game that stands out the most for me was Monster Hunter. I remember buying the game on a whim, and getting absolutely hooked on it. I spent most of my time hunting alone, and even playing Monster Hunter 2 in Japanese. It didn’t catch on with my friends, but when Monster Hunter Portable II came out my experience with solo hunting made me quite a good hunter when in a group. Combined I’ve spent over 300+ hours on that game, and I loved every minute of it. I heart Capcom for making so many good titles and franchises, and giving me a gaming experience no other company has.

    Why do I love Capcom? Probably because they are one of the most amazing companies in the gaming industry. My love for them started back when I was a child when I was introduced to Street Fighter 2! Playing this game not only made me into a fighting game and Capcom lover, but it created great bonding experiences with my older brother (even though I always lost). After that I got into the MegaMan series, MegaMan X is my favorite. What I really like and respect about Capcom is that they still make really challenging games in a time where most companies tone the difficulty down to appeal to young gamers. But Capcom’s games still have alot of challenge to them! I mean look at Devil May Cry on the higher difficulties, and Street Fighter IV. The challenge in their games is refreshing and all of their game have given me irreplaceable memories. For these reasons, I Heart Capcom!

    Looks like megaman was a big influence on everyone, doesn’t it? Well I’m no different. The first time I “hearted” capcom was watching a friend play megaman on the NES. I couldn’t believe how awesome the game looked and the fact that when you defeated a boss you gained a new power from them. The next awesome thing was that the power you gained from one boss was then particularly useful against a certain other boss later on. Ingenious! Now here’s my shame. While Megaman may be awesome, apparently I am not. To date I have only killed one megaman boss on my own(metal man). I have had help with others from the same skilled friend I first saw playing it. I have 1&2 on wii and 9 on xbox. I was so excited for 9 but man, it destroys me every time I play it. I mean I completed all mercenaries modes on Resident Evil 4 but I can’t take out megaman bosses. Damn it!

    Waiting in lines to play, putting your 20c coin on the cabinet to say that you are next.

    It never got better then getting to the machine with no one around and playing away for a while til that bastard Bison destroyed you. Cheap prick.

    When I was about 8 I was with my family seeing off a relative at the airport. I decided to slip away for some mcdonalds when i saw some arcade machines. I went over and saw Street Fighter 2. some random guy taught me how to use blanka and I’ve never looked back. Got my ass kicked big time as I wasn’t around to see my relative off but it was totally worth it.

    Capcom is responsible for my first ever fit of jealousy! when i was 10 years old i had one of those friends that has the best of everything! The house with the pool, thousands of dollars worth of lego but the one thing he had which made me weep was a game on the snes. Aladdin! oh Aladdin you apple throwing guard dogding jumping champion! In my memory the game was so crisp and perfect, it was assassins creed and prince of persia combined and i was smitten. I ended up washing cars and mowing lawns for weeks to get my hands on that game and it was worth every cent. I hope this memory is shared by many of us and i also hope its worthy of the resident evil pack, thanks capcom. (and thq for distributing lol hopefully to me :P)

    It would have to be Street Fighter II. I grew up in a small town comprising a fish and chip shop, a small IGA, a bakery and a doctor, none of the the thrills of the big city! Finally, the local fish and chip shop receieved Street Fighter II. It was the envy of all kids to be able to play the game, plus get some fish and chips! With my income relying solely on a very small amount of pocket money, it took some time to save the amount required to have a decent session. Once the money was collated (yes several 20c pieces), off I went to play.

    My favourite character has always been Ryu, with his ‘hydukens’ and getting to smash the American Ken. So after pulling some sweet moves, some sweet ‘hydukens’ and of course beating Ken (and the fish and chips) it was time to leave with a sense of awe, only a kid who lives in a small town knows (and has only played the Atari 2600).

    However upon stepping into the car park, I was surprised to receieve a real version of street fighter, when the local town bully decided to try some street fighter moves for real. Anyhow the story didn’t end with ‘Ryu beating Ken’. Nonetheless with a bruised check and of course a bruised ego, the time with Street Fighter II was worth it. I would live that moment again – only this time Ryu would beat Ken!

    Ahhh Resident Evil… or should i say Ughhhhh! *ominous voice* resident evil!

    Sure, it had its flaws, but it also had its devious puzzles, thrilling story, and lurching zombies! Right from the opening sequence, i was captivated. Exploring an old abandoned mansion. discovering my first zombie (including the immortalised “what is it?” line). zombie dogs crashing through the windows. Tension that grew as the game progressed. “Mmmm, itchy tasty”. Wesker. The Tyrant.

    Sure I played, and loved, many of Capcoms greats, Bionic Commando, Street Fighter, Ghosts & Goblins, Commando, Strider, MegaMan, Final Fight, Onimusha, Veiwiful Joe, Monster Hunter. But it was Resident Evil that wrapped me in its arms and bit through my jugular (to coin the phrase)

    It’s even given me some tips to deal with the enevitable zombie apolocalypse (EZA);
    Tip 1: Aim up to blow their heads off,
    Tip 2: a zombie that is lying stationary isnt necessarily dead,
    Tip 3: Acid rounds are awesome

    When I was a wee lad I played Capcom games, in particular…Resident Evil 1, I enjoyed it. And a few years later my dad bought a Street Fighter II Championship Edition arcade machine, but it was a sit down one, I also enjoyed playing Blanka on it and spamming electricity. Dino Crisis scared the shit out of me when I was young, as did the zombie dogs in Resident Evil 1. Capcom has given me many scares, and will always have a place in my heart…and nightmares (seriously RE1 is probably the reason I HATE spiders and still get scared by police dogs (and dinosaurs that come at you out of nowhere for that matter)).

     If ever a game has left an impact on me, it would be Killer 7. I remember putting the disc into my Gamecube, clueless as to its contents. But upon playing it soon changed the entire way I viewed the medium of games.
     It was spectacular and at the same time absurd. Packed full of gratuitous hyper violence yet containing a narrative so rich and deep that entire theses can be found written on it. Being in high school at the time I even composed my own essay on the subject (A+ btw).
     Ultimately however, I heart Killer 7 (and therefore vicariously Capcom) because it is to me, truly evidence that video games can be considered an art form, equal to in every respect to the already established artistic mediums… which as a gamer, allows me to validate my enthusiasm and obsession with the craft.
     Also on a smaller, somewhat psychological note; In Killer 7 the disembodied head that guides you at times(often appearing in washing machines and other appliances), has to this day, rendered me incapable of lifting the toilet seat without being genuinely relieved to find no such head awaiting me…

     Oh how I heart Capcom!

     Of course, it has to be Street Fighter II. Not only did it change my life – it changed everything. It created a genre, created a legacy, and for many, it created an addiction. Other fighting games tried to beat SFII with violence (Mortal Kombat), graphics (Virtua Fighter) and sheer size (King of Fighters)… but all failed to replicate the beautiful, simple playability of Capcom’s masterpiece.

     Personally, I wasted almost an entire year’s pocket money playing the damn arcade machine. Then I bought the MegaDrive version… and played the game to death again despite the fact my controller had only three buttons. I got addicted again to Super Street Fighter. Then again Street Fighter Alpha. Then again to Street Fighter III. And, if it wasn’t for the fact that arcade games no longer cost 40 cents to play, I’m sure I would have been addicted to Street Fighter IV as well.

     Capcom has failed many times. The Mega Man sequels are hit and miss. Resident Evil Survivor and Outbreak are almost embarrassing to think about. But the Street Fighter brand has remained true for more than two decades.

     (….bar one unfortunate release titled “Street Fighter: The Movie”… but really, that was Kylie Minogue’s fault).

     The first Resident Evil – no question!

     Bought it midday when I was working as a pizza delivery guy back in the day, but couldn’t play it as I was on shift.

     I finished around midnight that night, came home, booted the game in the dark.

     Got to that first room, with the zombie munching, turning it’s head slowly to look over it’s shoulder at me.

     In my dark apartment.

     Alone.

     That’s when I knew games weren’t just for kids anymore.

     (Then, of course, I turned it off vowing to continue bravely in daylight.)

     my favourite game has changed, just as my gaming platform has changed…from TUROK on the PC, to STREET FIGHTER with the old sega mega-system, through 2 playstation 2 and RESIDENT EVIL…& now currently…on my xbox360 still with RESIDENT EVIL…why?
     its opened me up 2 a new genre of fantasy and horror which i really enjoy..im also learning new skills incase im ever in the
     position of having 2 fight the dead!

     Capcom games changed my whole life. It was the original Resident Evil for Gamecube that kicked off my desire to become a 3D artist for video games. It was more Capcom titles that carved it in stone for me. P.N.03, Devil May Cry and a host of others have shown me without a doubt that this is what I want to do.
     If it wasn’t for Capcom, I’d probably be heading towards a boring office job surrounded by boring people. I’m sure you’ll agree that it would just be boring.

     When young Grim was aged around 8, he had a young female playmate who lived two doors down. Young Grim would often visit her after school to play chasey, hide-n-seek and other innocent, childish games.

     One day the young girl’s family got a new computer, an Amiga, which was far superior to Commodore 64 young Grim’s family owned. Two of the best games on that Amiga were Strider II and Ghouls ‘N Ghosts. Once young Grim discovered those games, he would visit his neighbour more and more often. At one point he realised he didn’t even care if the little girl was home, he just visited to play those games. Happily his neighbour’s parents obliged him.

     That same Amiga now lives with not-so-young Grim’s grandparents, who use it to play cards. Grim still visits it occasionally and thinks of it fondly but has no idea what happened to the young girl that was his neighbour.

     Once upon a time, Many years ago, there was a girl named Maddi, it was christmas morning. She had been dreaming of her present what would it be? A barbie? A stupid pony? she ran down stairs, tore open her packages and to her suprise The present was much different thats he had expected! It was Resident Evil 1. She fired up the old PS1 and started to play, She was hooked from “Wow what a mansion!”the game was nothing like she had ever experienced before, and she LOVED IT!
     10 years later…Time may as well not have passed because this girl loved Resident evil as much as that fateful day all those years ago, except now she was a total expert! She had a Resident evil birthday party and went as Jill Valentine (of course), She had resident evil figurines and posters, She has all of the games, except one…She NEEDS that game.

     Street fighter stole my heart way back when i was scared of the dark
     ..ssh! still i tell not a soul
     cause street fighter always stole the show.
