Posted by Adam Barenblat at 11:00 AM on October 7, 2008

We'll folks this will likely be the last NBA 2K9 trailer we post because you're finally going to be able to pick up the game tomorrow. That's not to say the promotional stuff didn't go out without a bang, this trailer still provides plenty of pretty graphics to look at.

2K Launch MLB Superstars On Wii

Posted by Kotaku US Edition at 11:30 AM on August 27, 2008

Wii owners looking for a baseball game with as little actual baseball as possible might be in luck with the upcoming release of MLB Superstars.

Rather than the boring old 'actual baseball' stance taken by so many baseball games, MLB Superstars is a series of mini games featuring Wii-ified versions of Major League players and teams.

The 'over half a dozen' (which I assume means 'seven') minigames include Baseball Pachinko, Baseball Golf and rhythm game Mascot Dance — featuring team mascots, er, dancing.

MLB Superstars will be out later this Fall from 2K games.

Posted by Adam Barenblat at 4:00 PM on August 22, 2008

A while back I was talking about how we don't have too many choices when it comes to hockey games. However, it is nice to see there's some variety in the controls when NHL 2K9 comes out for Wii in September.

A Look at the New NHL 2K9 Trailer

Posted by Adam Barenblat at 5:00 AM on August 13, 2008

If you live in Colourado like me, you are likely a hockey fan. It's just a shame - and I am sure some of you can relate to this - that there aren't more hockey games out there. To fuel this missing void in our lives we turn to 2K Sports every year with the newest rendition of the NHL2K franchise. In this trailer, we see some of the gameplay from NHL 2K9. Visually, I am pretty impressed with how this is coming along. The game will be hitting store shelves September 8th.

Dress Up (or Photoshop) For Topspin

Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 11:00 AM on July 5, 2008

Just a friendly reminder! We also have our Top Spin contest, which we will extend over the weekend 'cause of the three-day-weekend and wrap up early next week. Above is baconfrenzy's entry; Ben writes, "The attached file is muh entry, no laughs... well, maybe a chuckle". Here's what's going on: Wimbledon is wrapping up, and the US Open is still a few months away, but Top Spin 3 and Kotaku are bringing you the Kotaku Open. We're going to make this simple for you. Don't bother practicing your twist serve or calling up your doubles partner. All you need to do is get yourself in some tennis attire! We don't particularly care how you do it either: Steal your dad's tennis shorts from '72, Photoshop your head onto Federer's body, or maybe, just maybe you're a tennis superstar with a closet full of visors and wristbands. Send in your pictures to kotakucontestATgmailDOTcom, readers will vote for their favourite, and the winner gets a free copy of Top Spin 3 (platform of your choice!), courtesy of 2K Sports. Match point!

Mario Breaks From Princess Saving To Shill Some Hockey

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 7:40 AM on June 14, 2008

2K Sports made kind of a big deal about the impending release of NHL 2K9 being "the first and only officially licenced NHL and NHLPA video game for Wii" but we didn't know how serious the Take-Two label was. They got Mario—yes, that Mario—to help drum up enthusiasm for video game hockey, waggle-style at last night's 2008 NHL Awards in Toronto. Normally, our eyes glaze over when someone brings up hockey video games that were released after NHL 94 for the Genesis, but when Mario foregos pimping his own sports ventures, we're forced to sit up and listen. Or at least write a smarmy post!

The Peter Moore Challenge

Posted by Brian Crecente at 10:40 AM on June 13, 2008

EA Sports head Peter Moore is not a man to mince words. That's why we loved him so when he was at Microsoft, he cuts through the BS and gets straight to the point.

In a recent post on his blog over at It's In The Game, Moore talked up his new studio alluding that EA Sports is primed to have one of the best years in its history. In particular Moore sings the praises of NASCAR, NBA LIVE, Madden and NCAA Football. He's so sure that this season is going to be unrivaled, in fact, that he's promising to get a new tattoo if they don't deliver.

Big talk Moore, but lets put a little reality into this pie-in-the-sky promise. Why not say that if you don't have an overall Metacritic increase (yes I hate review scores) on all four of those games you've failed to deliver and it's time to ink up? We've even found this swell logo for your possible future use. Let us know.

Kevin Garnett Lands Opportunistically On Cover Of NBA2K9

Posted by Luke Plunkett at 1:20 PM on June 6, 2008

This year's NBA finals? A classic Lakers v Celtic shakedown. So the Celtics are big right now. And none bigger than Kevin Garnett. With 2K announcing their cover star for NBA2K9 this week, who ever was it going to be? Well. If it isn't Kevin Garnett. Not the most exciting of covers, what with the big man just sort of...standing there (2K can't even get a pose for the money, Kevin?), but then sports fans generally aren't the type to base their purchasing decisions on cover art.

2K NBA Cover Athelete Unveiled Tomorrow, Win His Jersey

Posted by Brian Crecente at 1:07 AM on June 5, 2008

2K Sports plans to reveal the cover athlete for their upcoming baller NBA 2K9 during tomorrow's pre-game show for the first game of the year's NBA Finals.

The 30 second spot will air sometime after the start of the Boston Celtics vs. Los Angeles Lakers 8:30 p.m. ET game on ABC in the US.

There was a time when cover athletes for sports titles were a big deal, but they don't seem to get as much buzz as they used to. Maybe it's me, and I'm not a sports fan really, but do people who play sports video games really care who's on the cover of the title they're going to by? More importantly, if you buy sports games, has it ever effected your decision?

Either way, if you're into sports games you should probably hop over to the official 2K site and try to predict who the cover athlete will be. If you get it right you could win a copy of the game as well as the athlete's autographed NBA jersey.
