The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom and Axel & Pixel are two games you wouldn’t expect to come from 2K, but they certainly seem to be the kind of titles you might be compelled to pay a little extra for. P.B. Winterbottom is a stylish platformer in which the titular character bends time and space in order to steal pie, and if a nobler pursuit exists then I don’t know what it is. This award-winning game from developer The Odd Gentlemen was originally created as a University of Southern California student thesis project.

Axel & Pixel, developed by Czech Republic developer Silver Wish Games, is a classic point and click adventure game with lush, hand-drawn visuals.

Why these two titles?

2K Play is about to make running away to join the circus much easier, announcing a partnership with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey to create circus games for the Wii and DS.

During a recent performance, Ringling Bros. high wire artist Jonathan Caro walked 25 feet through the air, using only a Wii remote and nunchuck to help keep his balance, celebrating the agreement between the world’s most respected circus and 2K Play to create circus-themed titles for the Nintendo Wii and DS.

“We are very excited to partner with 2K Play. These upcoming games add an entirely new interactive dimension to the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey experience,” said Nicole Feld, Ringling Bros. producer and Feld Entertainment Executive Vice President. “Now circus fans of all ages can continue to experience the thrills and excitement of Ringling Bros. when they play these new games at home.”

While we won’t know any more about the actual games until E3 in June, judging from the way they announced the partnership I’d say you’d best keep your Wii Balance Board in good working condition.

Not one to look a gift bit of shovelware in the mouth, Take-Two today announced that they are coming out with two new spin-offs for Carnival Games.

Carnival Games DS will hit this summer and will feature a new group of carnival games designed from the ground up for the DS. The games, which includel Ball, Frog Leap, Dunk Tank, RC Raceway and Clown Hammer, will use tapping, blowing, speaking and swiping as play mechanics.

Out this fall, Carnival Games: Mini Golf will make use of the Wii Remote’s motion controls to let up to four people play mini-golf. The themed park will include dinosaurs, the Wild West and, wait for it, pirates!!!

As part of the 2K Play initiative, Take-Two also announced an expansive new handheld and console video game licensing agreement with Nickelodeon, a partnership involving top-rated properties including Nick Jr. preschool television hits, Dora the Explorer and Go, Diego, Go!

Dora the Explorer and Go, Diego, Go! will be the first titles under the new 2K Play label and will be released this fall in North America. According to Nielsen ratings (4/2/07-7/1/07), Dora the Explorer and Go, Diego, Go! are the top two ranked television shows for kids 2-5. The NPD Group cites Dora the Explorer as the #1 toy licence in 2006 based on dollar sales and Go, Diego, Go! is now supported by over 300 licensees worldwide.
