Namco Bandai’s aerial combat series is making its debut on the 3DS sometime soon, with an Ace Combat game announced overnight for Nintendo’s new handheld. [Pocketgamer]
Namco’s venerable Ace Combat series is also getting a once-over – just like Ridge Racer – with Ace Combat: Assault Horizon, which adds a little “Close Range Assault”, bringing the camera closer for more intense dogfightin’ action.
3D televisions are expected to proliferate. More 3D TVs means more and more 3D games. Japanese research firm goo Ranking (via What Japan Thinks) polled folks in Japan regarding which game series they wanted to play on a 3D TV.
The Ace Combat franchise generally has seen its jet combat supremacy unchallenged. Ubisoft changed this with its May 2009 release of Tom Clancy H.A.W.X. So it was time for change.
On August 2nd, Mamoru Oshii, the director behind anime Ghost In The Shell, will release his new flick The Sky Crawlers. Based on a series of novels, the romance adventure focuses on a group of dogfighter pilots and is set in a fictionalised World War II-type setting. The film just had it’s American premiere at the Skywalker Sound studio in California, where soundtrack work for the film was done. And to tie-in with the movie, Namco Bandai is releasing Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces, which is being developed by the Ace Combat team. That’s good news! The game will sport an original story and use the Wii Remote for throttle and the Nunchuk for the control stick. It’s out the fall in Japan — no word about a Western release.
