It’s out in June and Atari has organised our Limited Edition bundle. I couldn’t be happier – I’ve been waiting for this game since I saw it back at E3 2006. You know, when it was still worth going to.
Perhaps the most exciting inclusion in the LE is the Edward Carnby figurine. Okay, it will be the most exciting inclusion as long as it doesn’t turn out to be made by the same company that does toys for McDonalds’ Happy Meals.
Also tossed in the box is the soundtrack, art book, documentary and game (duh).

Infogrames boss David Gardner has told Reuters “we want to stop losing money”. No shit, Dave! As for how they’re going to do that, well…they’re hoping to sell a lot of videogames. Like the new Alone In The Dark.
Atari has just announced “Sinister Sightings”, a competition to promote the new Alone in the Dark. The objective? To take the creepiest photo you can in the world’s least creepy locale – a park.
Okay, maybe parks can be creepy when murderers, hobos and other, less savoury types stalk their finely manicured shrubbery. In any case, it’s up to you to make it an unsettling place so your photo is indeed, disturbing.
A winner will be chosen each week via online voting. Each winner will receive a copy of the AITD 5 soundtrack, while the winner with the most votes at the end of the competition will get an Xbox 360.
If you think you have what it takes to put the “Oh” into “Oh my God, there’s a weird dude in the park taking photos of me” then be sure to hit the jump. More »
In an interview with OXM, Alone In The Dark producer Nour Polloni has explained that the game’s coming bundled with a feature that should help out anyone who suffers from stubby thumbs. If you find yourself stuck on a particular part of the game and are getting sick of replaying it, the game will let you skip straight past it: We want everybody to be able to finish our game, so one of the other new features we’ve added is the ability to skip sections using a DVD-style menu if you get stuck.
Only downside is that it’ll cost you possible achievement points, but then if you’re the type of person who’s going to skip on gameplay just to get past a tough bit you probably don’t give a flying duck about your gamerscore, either. Alone In The Dark Q&A [OXM]
Here we have a nice little piece of tech demo video showing off some of the features of the upcoming Alone in the Dark 5. Our lead character gets all McGuyver-esque, strapping things together with sticky tape to create new weapons or using it to stick things to the ceiling. Pretty crafty! I particularly like the shooting of the corpse to create a blood puddle that will distract the enemies long enough for you to pick them off from a distance.
Running around in the dark chopping up tables looks booooooring. We know, the real game will have bad guys, but for now, this trailer, it’s booooooooring. All except for that inventory system, actually: finally, a game where an actual objective is to reach into your pants in first-person, in real-time.
The main attractions are the screenshots, for which the Xbox 360, Wii and Playstation 2 versions of the game are catered for; some facts about the “re-imagined” Central Park that serves as the play area in AITD 5; and a couple of flavour videos to set the mood.
On a related note, there’s been more word on when Eden Games’ survivor horror title will actually be released. Jan/Feb/March 2008 seems just a tad more realistic than the one Atari Australia’s website was sporting last year.

Atari Australia seems to have its wires crossed. According to the publisher’s website, Alone in the Dark: Near Death Investigation came out 11 months ago! I must have missed the press release on that one. And the review copy. And the reviews.
Yes, I realise it’s a small mistake, but I think because of it AITD is appearing on the front page of the site along with The Witcher and Jericho, two games that came out weeks (or months) ago. Might cause a bit of confusion when punters go looking for it. Mind you, $119.95 is quite a price tag…
Other than this snafu, Atari Australia has a great site.

We’re guessing (and it’s hard to be sure, what with the trailer being so subtle and all) that there’s something evil. Something evil under Central Park. That’s…killing birds. Lots of birds. And driving up real estate prices. Whatever “it” is, it’s very evil. And mysterious. But mostly evil. More »
