Persona 4 Makes It Personal

Posted by AJ Glasser at 10:00 AM on November 11, 2008

I'm pretty sure the Persona series wasn't the first JPRG to pair off dungeon crawling with high school - but whoever first had that idea deserves a freaking medal. High school is all about routines and drudgery; why shouldn't your RPG experience match that in length, anxiety, and tedium?

Persona 4 - There Will Be Only One

Posted by Mike Fahey at 1:40 AM on November 8, 2008

Atlus fans wary of Persona 4 for fear that they'll get FES'ed like they did with the previous installment of the PS2 RPG series can stop worrying now, as Atlus issues a press release announcing...nothing, basically.

"We are today able to announce that at no point in the future will we announce the release of a "FES" version of Persona 4," said Tim Pivnicny, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "The very finest, most definitive version of Persona 4 will be the one released on December 9, 2008."

Yggdra Union: We'll Never Fight Alone Review: A Battle Hard Won

Posted by Mike Fahey at 6:00 AM on October 4, 2008

Yggdra Union: We'll Never Fight Alone, originally released in 2006 for the GameBoy Advance, is a tactical strategy RPG that features some rather unique battle mechanics. Instead of multiple units battling multiple enemies, only one unit at a time can fight, relying on battlefield position-dependent Unions to bring allies into the fight. Adding to the complex system are cards that represent your movement and power, adding special abilities to the fight and leveling as you use them. Much like it's predecessor, Riviera: The Promised Land, Yggdra has now made the leap from GBA to PSP, bringing with it a tweaked difficulty level, enhanced graphics, and a few other changes that players of the original game are sure to catch as they play. Were the changes enough to make a good game even better, or were they better off leaving well enough alone?

Shin Megami Tensei MMO Hitting North America And Europe

Posted by Mike Fahey at 1:20 AM on September 12, 2008

Great news for those MegaTen fans who haven't just sucked it up and learned Japanese by now, Aeria Games has announced that they've acquired Atlus' Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine Online and are prepping it for a North American and European release. Set in a post-apocalyptic Tokyo somewhere between Shin Megami Tensei 1 and 2, players choose one of three factions - the order preserving Law, system crashing Chaos, and mercenary Neutrals - and utilise a real-time strategic fighting system to help defeat the demons running rampant throughout the city. It features many of the mainstays of the main series, including Devil Partnership and Devil Fusing to create new breeds, my personal favourite aspect of the franchise. Best of all, it follows the free-to-play, microtransaction model, which means you won't have to shell out big bucks only to discover you hate it.

The announcement didn't come with any sort of time frame, but Aeria has historically been pretty quick from announcement to beta, so I'd keep an eye on them if I were you.

Who Wants Trauma Center On Other Platforms?

Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 6:00 PM on September 4, 2008

Game site Go Nintendo brings word that Atlus has sent out a Trauma Center survey — trying to find out player's likes, dislikes and whatnot. Here's the interesting big: Atlus asks players if they'd like to see Trauma Center on another platform. Those who finish the survey get the pictured nurse Angie Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2 art.

The Trauma Center games have appeared on the Nintendo DS and the Nintendo Wii. Any interest to see it elsewhere?

Odin Sphere, Disgaea To Go Greatest Hits

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 11:00 AM on August 9, 2008

Two of Atlus' best publishing efforts from the PlayStation 2 era are getting the Greatest Hits treatment, with Odin Sphere and Disgaea: Hour of Darkness. The latter of those two took an impressive five years and change to receive the coveted $US 19.99 price drop and dreaded red bar. We're not complaining, as all PlayStation 2 owners should give these titles a whirl at these low, low prices. We're just sort of shocked that someone at SCEA remembered Disgaea existed.

Both titles will have their box arts slightly shrunk and their street value hit rock bottom this September in North America. Congrats to both.

Atlus Brings Poison Pink Stateside

Posted by Mike Fahey at 12:20 AM on August 6, 2008

Atlus has been one busy little company this year, haven't they? It almost seems like there's a new game announcement coming from those folks every week, like this latest one for the strategy RPG Eternal Poison for the PS2. Released in Japan under the name Poison Pink, the game follows five bands of adventurers as they explore the homeland of the mysterious Majin. Some wish to rescue a kidnapped princess, others yearn for revenge, and even more are drawn to rumours of the Eternal Poison, a treasure rumoured to make your darkest desires come true. Since my darkest desire at the moment is chocolate chip pancakes, readily available at IHOP, I hardly see the point, but it could be right up your alley. Eternal Poison, complete with a bonus soundtrack in every box, is due out in November at the budget price of $US 39.99. Hit the jump for the teaser trailer!
