Gundam Musou Is Back For More Gundam Musou
7:00PM Brian Ashcraft | That Koei/Bandai marketing wet dream Gundam Musou (think Dynasty Warriors with Gundam) is back. Gundam Musou 2 has been announced for PS3, PS2 and Xbox 360. The game will be out December 4th in Japan and will feature new mechas, like mobile armours, on the roser — Char’s Counterattack is getting added as well! 2:00AM Brian Ashcraft | At a Christie’s auction in Hong Kong, Japanese artist Tenmyouya Hisashi ’s traditional-meets-modern Gundam painting “RX-78-2 Kabuki-mono 2005 Version” went for HK$4.8 million (approx. $US 600,000). Says Hisashi about his work: In Japan there are many “Gundam-Otaku’s,” and their adoration of Gundam is intense. Therefore, I did not want to change their image of Gundam. By changing Gundam’s “mobile suit” to tattoos, I altered his body, and made him even more customised. I emphasised the very concept of the “mobile suit,” and by setting Gundam against a background of gold leaf from traditional Japanese painting, I emphasised Gundam’s samurai origins. Hit the jump for another Hisashi work — this one inspired by a fighting game. More »
Bandai Makes Lucky Star Fugly
10:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Ack! POM-POM HANDS!! Here’s a toy figurine of Tsukasa Hiiragi from Lucky Star. It’s made by Bandai, better known for its Gundam modelling. At ¥850 ($US 8.45), it’s certainly not an upper end figure as clearly even by its overall freakish appearance. We’re sure it has a good personality, though. Finalists Too Good, Contest Tie
6:00PM Brian Ashcraft | What. A. Contest. Talk about some incredible finalists for out Culdcept Saga sign contest. The voting was so close — too close, actually! We don’t do this often (so don’t ask in the future!), but it really is too close to call the winner. There are only a few votes that separate Finalist #1 and Finalist #5. Asking for a Kotaku Editor vote didn’t help much either! So, tell you what Finalist #1 and Finalist #5, send me your address to kotakucontestATgmail.com, and we’ll try to either A). Divvy up the prizes or B). Get more prizes from Bandai. Nice work and congrats! More »
