PlayStation Network Games Getting UMD Bundle Treatment

12:00PM Michael McWhertor | European PSP owners are going to get a few former PlayStation Network only titles in cold, hard physical media format, as SCEE is planning on releasing two collections of PSN titles on UMD. The PlayStation Network Collection releases, unearthed by Siliconera, consist of one Power Pack, containing flOw, Syphon Filter: Combat Ops and Beats, and the Puzzle Pack, featuring Lemmings, Go! Puzzle and Go! Sudoku. Handy, even if one of those is a very odd mix of genres, but we thought we’d be seeing less UMDs, not more. No pricing yet, so try not to get too excited about the big big savings. PSP PSN downloadable games get UMD collections [Siliconera] More »

Beats Available In US PSP Store

1:20AM Luke Plunkett | I don’t simply like London Studio’s Beats for the PSP. I’m hooked. Just cannot stop playing it. Americans haven’t been able to start playing it, however, as the game was only initially available in the European and Australian PSP Stores. That changes today, since it’ll be in the US store for the bargain price of $US 5. If you fancy rhythm action and know how to put an MP3 on your PSP, you can’t argue with $US 5. More »

Beats Impressions

7:00PM Luke Plunkett | With the PSP’s new PC Store open, figured it was worth checking out, putting through its paces. So I jumped on the Australian store, saw SCEE’s Beats was on there, saw it was only $12.95 and decided to give it a try. Best decision I made all week. Really! Sony could do with a lot more PSP games that you download on the cheap that both generate and use your own content in-game. Beats is by SCEE’s London Studio. For reference, they’re the SingStar guys. It’s a simple little title, with two components: one lets you create, record and share your own tracks using a bare-bones music-making game, the other gives you a Bemani/Fantavision-style rhythm action game that’s able to base itself on any music you’ve got saved on your memory stick.
