Mirror's Edge Remix Album - One Song Enters, Six Songs Leave

Posted by Mike Fahey at 4:00 AM on October 8, 2008

DICE are extremely pleased with the theme song to their upcoming free-action running delivering shooting things game Mirror's Edge, Swedish pop star Lisa Miskovsky's "Still Alive" (no relation). So pleased, in fact, that they've gathered the original song plus five remixes together on a special album to be digitally released on November 11th. Top remixers like Junkie XL, Teddybears, and Paul van Dyk all deliver their own unique spin on Lisa's original track.

"A groundbreaking videogame demands an equally provocative theme song," said Steve Schnur, Worldwide Executive of Music and Marketing for EA. "We've taken an unprecedented approach to this track, bringing together several of the world's top remixers to create an album that will not only cross genres and borders, but also redefine how great new music can be delivered to the world."

Best Buy Ad Featuring Gears 2 RC Tank

Posted by Brian Crecente at 10:00 AM on October 2, 2008

Last week a Best Buy tipster emailed us pictures from a pre-holiday meeting in Dallas showing off what they said was a picture of the Limited Edition pre-order the retailer will be offering for Gears of War 2 starting on Oct. 5.

The GOW2 Limited Edition order will, according to the pictures, include a free remote control Centaur Tank normally worth about $20. Pretty sweet.

Today another tipster sends us what they say is a scan for next week's Best Buy circular featuring the mini tank in all of its glory. Consider this a rumour until we see something official. If it is real, the fact that the images avoid anything that would put the toy's size into perspective leads me to think it's super small. Like mouse-sized even. Which would be totally OK with me.

According to the Ad above the tank will be available to those who pre-order the L.E version. Also the tank will not be available until November 7th when you pick up your copy of the game.

Best Buy Advertising Final Fantasy VII PS3

Posted by Mike Fahey at 12:20 AM on August 5, 2008

We've seen this sign popping up over the weekend on the internets, and now reader and Best Buy employee Boomy (possibly a pseudonym) sends this snap from his iPhone of a coming soon sign misprint that is set to disappoint a lot of people come August 16th. At least we assume that this is a misprint. Either that, or Square Enix has developed Apple-levels of secrecy over the past few years...somehow I doubt it.

It's just odd that such a screw-up would occur with nothing even vaguely FF-related coming out this month. Disgaea 3 ships on the 18th, and while for some of us that is more exciting than a FFVII remake, I can't see some hapless sign-monkey mixing the two of them up. Odd.

Best Buy's Big GTA IV Offer

Posted by Mark Wilson at 4:40 AM on April 23, 2008

Here it is, folks. Best Buy's (and probably Microsoft's) Grand Theft Auto IV savings kamehameha. Buy GTA IV along any version of the Xbox 360, and get a $50 gift card as a sweet bonus. If you've been one of those woulda, coulda, shoulda gamers still holding out on this generation of systems, it's probably not a bad time to make the leap. We'll keep our eyes peeled for similar deals like a PlayStation 3 equivalent offer...other than that bundle on the way to Europe.

Best Buy Ad Lists Devil May Cry Anime

Posted by Flynn De Marco at 5:00 AM on February 4, 2008

bestbuyad.jpg Although the rumor was circulating last week that the Devil May Cry anime was facing cancellation, this week's Best Buy Ad has a picture of the DVD listing it at $US 19.99. The ad also claims that the disc will contain twelve episodes but seeing as these things get printed long before the actual delivery date, this may have been done before the rumored cancellation. It still lists the release date of Feb. 5 and the required disclaimer that the date is subject to change. If you're feeling lucky, you can try to pre-order it here at Best Buy or here at Amazon, but just be aware that your money may soon be coming back to you. Or you could always just get store credit and use it to purchase the first and second seasons of Perfect Strangers which comes out the same day. Come on, that cousin Balki is a hoot!

Best Buy Says PlayStation 3 80GB Is On Its Way Out

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 2:45 PM on January 25, 2008

ps3_80gb_rumor.jpgWe've received multiple tips from readers—ones who also happen to be Best Buy employees—who have informed us that the North American retailer hasn't received stock of the PlayStation 3 80GB model for the many weeks and is expected to discontinue carrying the model soon. According to our sources, Best Buy stores have also been asked to pull advertising materials related to the 80GB model, currently the only version that features PlayStation 2 backwards compatibility.

Rumours of a 120GB model have been spread to retail employees, but this conflicts with reports from other Best Buy moles who say that internal communications indicate only one model—the 40GB barebones edition—will be stocked after January 28th.

PS3 Fanboy has visual evidence of the notice to employees about the 80GB discontinuation, further proof that backwards compatibility may soon be a thing of the past. We've been bugging Sony about the situation all day, but have yet to receive anything other than a paraphrased "hold tight" about the rumours.

One Best Buy Was Selling $US 299 PS3s

Posted by Mark Wilson at 7:40 AM on January 24, 2008

attachment.jpegMost of us wouldn't expect to walk into our neighborhood Best Buy and snag a 40GB PS3 for $US 299 (or any PS3 for that matter), but a lucky few who visited the Sterling, VA location were able to do just that earlier this month. And not only did a lucky few score $US 299 PS3s, but they were also able to snag 5 free Blu-ray movies with the offer, too. But before you get your SCREAMING PRICE DROP VOICE all warmed up, know that a sign marked the offer as a manager's special for that location only. Also know that the Easter Bunny isn't real, and we're not so sure about Santa, either.
