We know Beyond Good & Evil’s HD re-release, due on the Xbox 360 very soon, is going to play well. We’ve, uh, played the game before. But how it looks will be just as important to some people.
When an in-development game like Beyond Good & Evil 2 goes quiet, even for just a few months, any word that it’s still alive is comforting. Especially when we get status updates like the one game designer Michel Ancel recently provided.
True story. If Canadians pick up select packets of Cheese Heads brand mozzarella cheese, they’ll not only get a bag of delicious cheese, they’ll also get a copy of Beyond Good & Evil.
Hot on the heels of news both Altair and the original Prince from Sands of Time would be turning up in Prince of Persia comes these screens. Showing a suit for the ladies. Seems that when you complete the game, you get access to a Jade costume for PoP’s sidekick, Elika. Jade being, of course, the heroin of Beyond Good & Evil. Always wondered what she’d look like without freaky alien lipstick all over her face! Jade from Beyond Good & Evil skin unlocked by completing Prince of Persia [Destructoid]
It’s been more than a year since I first floated the idea for an Oprah-esque Game Club to quite a lot of support. Heck, I’ve even had people email me about forming local Game Club chapters for physical meet-ups, including one developer. Since that time we had a beta of sorts and played Mr. Robot together. And then things got quiet… too quiet.
Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot, speaking with Next-Gen, thinks he knows why the first Beyond Good & Evil didn’t do too well. Thinks he knows how to fix that for the sequel: make it easier.
We saw with Beyond Good & Evil that so many customers were extremely happy with the game. We had a different audience at that time. We had more core gamers than casual gamers than we have today.
We think the game was probably a little too difficult for the general gamers at that time. We’re going to make it more accessible and make sure that it’s really done for the new generation that’s come into videogames.
Casual? Accessible? Oh, Yves, you sure know how to put the fear of God into a man. I’d have thought the first game’s problem was it was a game about a photographer with green lips and a pig, which makes it a hard sell to most people, but what do I know.
Ubi: Beyond Good & Evil 2 More “Casual” [Next-Gen]
It’s OK. Rub your eyes. I did. But it’s true: Beyond Good & Evil creator Michel Ancel has told French magazine JeuxVideo that work on a sequel to one of the past decade’s most underappreciated titles is underway. And not just underway, but it’s been underway for around a year now, with 10-12 staff toiling away on pre-production duties. Good news, yes? Well, sit back down, Mr Bernard Excitey-Pants, because there’s a catch: Ubisoft have yet to green-light the project and kick it up into full production. Yes, I’m as confused and angry as you are. No, I have no idea why the hell they’re stalling on this.
