Vikings Long Snapper Is Pissed He’s Not In Madden

8:30AM August 25, 2010 | Owen Good

Pity the poor long snapper – the special-teams player who, unlike the kicker, both gets dirty and speaks English. Also, unlike the kicker, he rarely shows up in Madden NFL. Cullen Loeffler hasn’t made the game in seven years. More »

Madden 09 Gets A Splash Of Pink

11:00AM October 3, 2008 | Kotaku US Edition

Throughout the month of October, a limited edition Madden NFL 09 Pink version will be available, with proceeds going to the Deanna Favre HOPE Foundation. This is coinciding with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and will be available only at Target and NFLShop.com. Besides a new box art, there will be no other changes to the actual game itself. It’s still the same Madden 09 you probably already bought (and traded in). Two things of note, though. They didn’t use the new Jets uniform packaging, and there will be no PS3, PS2, or PSP pink editions, either. Just 360 and Wii. Also, Brett Favre has gone through a lot of Madden covers this season already and still hasn’t suffered a horrific injury. Way to go, Brett! Click the jump for more details.

Brett Farve? No EA, It’s Brett Favre

5:00PM August 13, 2008 | Brian Ashcraft

“Brett” is easy to spell. B-r-e-t-t. “Favre”, not so easily. But to review: F-a-v-r-e-. Not “Farve”. If you’re a football fan, you should know that. And if you’re EA, you damn well should know that — especially because he’s the coverboy! Reader Devon points out that Brett Favre’s name is mispelled in the collector’s edition menu in Madden 09. That’s a pic of it right up there. Well, at least EA didn’t put “Brett Favour”.

Thanks, Devon for the tip!

Sam’s Club Prints Your New Madden Favre Cover While You Wait

3:40AM August 13, 2008 | Mike Fahey

Those of you planning to pick up your copy of Madden NFL 09 at your local Sam’s Club may be in for a bit more value than the usual discounted prices. An official for the warehouse store dropped us a line this morning to let us know that Sam’s Club locations with photo centres will print out a high-quality version of the updated packaging featuring Brett Favre in his dashing New York Jets uniform, which we revealed to you last night, right inside the store upon purchase of the game. Sure, you could head over to EA’s Madden 09 site and download your own, but getting other people to do things for us is one of the principles that America was founded on.

We checked out Sam’s prices for the games after receiving the news, and they do offer a nice little discount. The PS3 and Xbox 360 version are going for $US 55.55 ($US 83.22 for the collector’s edition), with the PS2 and PSP versions marked at $US 36.33, the Wii version at $US 46.66, and the DS version a bargain at $US 26.66. All this plus a free cover replacement while you wait? None too shabby.

Update – Just got word from Walmart that they’ll be printing covers on-site as well, though the games are regular price and you don’t get a Walmart card with your picture on it – that’s reserved for managers.

Madden 09 Gets Favre Focused Roster, Cover Update

6:40AM August 8, 2008 | Michael McWhertor

Former Packers QB Brett Favre has returned to the NFL, announcing his retirement from retirement and throwing a wrench into EA’s plans to have him as cover boy for Madden NFL 09. Favre, photographed in his Packers uniform, is now playing for the Jets, leading to a very important, last minute roster change. That change won’t, however, affect his appearance on the cover of this year’s Madden.

That said, fanatical football fans with a desire for accuracy will be able to download a Jets uniformed Favre next week, according to MTV Multiplayer. It’s due to hit EAsports.com sometime next week, just begging to be printed and inserted into a clear plastic sleeve. Ready the inkjets!
