Party Hard With Joel, Crecente and Rock Band

Just a reminder that Funde Razor, the annual Child’s Play rock-off in Brooklyn and now Denver, kicks off this coming Wednesday night. I should, by then, be totally over my jet-lag.

Door prizes for the Denver event will include tons of gaming schwag (things like the Manhunt 2 straitjacket, the Ninja Gaiden DS stylus and a Zelda hourglass), a copy of Rock Band for the 360 and a life-sized Companion Cube plushie.

The Funde Razor Edges Ever Closer

As your Friday night plans are gelling, don’t neglect next week’s all-important Wednesday night festivities. While mine will include eating a pound of meat soaked in a to-be-determined Mexican sauce, combined with salty margaritas, those in the greater Denver and New York City areas should be adding one of the Funde Razor events to their to-do lists. The NYC gig throws down at gaming and drinking hotspot Barcade, in the heart of Brooklyn. The Denver flavored equivalent tears it up at the Walnut Room, which just oozes class. Both will be a raucously charitable time, featuring Rock Band and Guitar Hero gameplay, plus boozing, all benefiting Penny Arcade’s Child’s Play charity.

Donations are taken at the door and many coveted things will be given away to lucky raffle ticket holders. For more details on the event that puts the fun back into fund raiser, hit up the official site. Keep in mind, it’s limited to those 21 and over. This may be your only chance to see Brian Crecente in a bird shirt or Joel Johnson in frilly scarf in person.

This Is Living (In Sydney)

I spent the weekend in Sydney with my wife. We were on our way to Paddington Market (a must see if you’re visiting), when I noticed three buses with these gi-normous Ratchet & Clank Future/This is Living ads go by. They are the first Playstation 3 ads I’ve seen outside of television since I’ve been in Australia. Seems like a pretty good investment, though I’d like to see some for Uncharted as well.

Me and My Shadow

This isn’t news. This isn’t about gaming… not really.

After three weeks of Australian-flavored vacationing I’m back, well at least in mind I’m back. I’m actually still here in Australia for another couple of weeks, hanging out with my in-laws on the Central Coast, north of Sydney.

It’s been a fun, and fruitful vacation. I managed to finally take up surfing, taking lessons from a surfer just south of Surfers Paradise. Never mind that he had to tow me out past the breakers the second day of lessons because I was shot, I still managed to catch some big waves, something I’ve always wanted to do.

Crecente Plays Football

NaturalMotion is currently working on a new next-gen football game called Backbreaker for next year. One of the features of the game will be the ability to assign your own colors, logos and names to your team’s players. So, to show off the feature, the folks at NM threw together a little Kotaku team featuring our signature pink and green colours and our own Crecente as Quarterback. I don’t know what’s funnier, the pink uniforms or the thought of anyone on the Kotaku team (with the possible exception of Fahey and Luke) playing football.

Pronounce Kotaku, Crecente Like A Pro

Are you one of the many located in the United States who has difficulties with the official pronunciation of “Kotaku”? How about “Crecente”? If so, watch. If you’re in Canada or some other godforsaken location like the U.K., you’ll have to just imagine how this video looks. Sorry, but we can’t have the precious intel contained within MTV-hosted video clips falling into the wrong hands. It’s too bad, really, as EA Canada have long been the biggest offenders of mispronouncing the site.

Sorry, no pronunciation guide on “McWhertor” yet. Maybe some day…

Filipino Markets Awash With Wii Fantasies

What’s this? A sneak peek at some bold new strategy from Nintendo? Sadly no, they’re just dodgy pirated covers from a Filipino marketplace, but it’s nice to dream, isn’t it? A 16:9 Wind Waker? Oh, be still my beating heart.
