Castlevania Cake

7:05AM Brian Crecente | We don’t really write about cakes that often anymore, but this one is pretty amazing. The sides of the cake show a typical level in the early days of side-scroller Castlevania. More »

Portal: Still Alive Lies Next Week

3:20AM Mike Fahey | Are you an Xbox 360 owner that didn’t pick up The Orange Box when it was released around this time last year? What is wrong with you? No no, it’s okay. You’ll be able to snag the best of the box next week as Microsoft’s Gamerscore Blog reveals the release date for Portal: Still Alive. On October 22nd at around 2AM Pacific, GLaDOS makes her triumphant return to the 360, bringing with her all of the fun of the original title plus 14 Xbox 360-exclusive challenge maps and six advanced maps for extra added flavour. Tasty Guitar Hero II Cake

5:30PM Logan Booker | What’s better than playing Guitar Hero? Eating one of the game’s controllers in cake form! The tasty treat above is the physical manifestation of this very idea, and it’s a glorious one at that. The creator even went to the trouble of including a tutorial, and a bunch of images of the process. FYI, the cake was actually made in November of last year, going by the dates on the photos. Thanks to reader Pete for letting everyone else know about it! Bringing back the past – Cake Tutorial [I'm not charming, thanks Pete] Guitar Hero II Cake [Flickr] More »

Eat Fahey’s Tattoo

10:30AM Leigh Alexander | Even though I began at Kotaku maybe a little over four weeks ago, I think this is the day I am truly inaugurated, as I post my very first cake picture. Moxie Girl tipped us off about this Final Fantasy Black Mage/White Mage cake. As I’m weak in the knees over buttercream, normally I’d find this very delicious, but now it just makes me think of Fahey’s blood and arm hair. I feel like a real part of the family now! More »

Cthulhu Cake Wants To Eat You

5:00PM Logan Booker | I know the Kotaku US guys are absolutely crazy about cake and cake-related foodstuffs. I’ve never “gotten the fever”, to paraphrase Christoper Walken, but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy a well-crafted baked treat just like the next moderately insane person. As a compromise, I’ve managed to meld my love of HP Lovecraft with this Cthulhu-themed dessert, made by the cake-mad raingirllori. Rumour has it that if you try to eat it, you’ll be transported to the Plateau of Leng. Cthulhu Cake [Flickr, via Mouldy and Shadowy and Full of Dim Rumours] More »

Pokemon Christmas Cake

3:44PM Brian Ashcraft | This isn’t just some random cake post. Oh, no. This is more. In Japan, cake with strawberries is typically eaten at Christmas. The name of this cake? Christmas cake. So clever! So, that’s right, you are looking at a Pokémon Christmas cake. Gotta eat it all! More »
