The Renegade: The World’s Most Hardcore Gaming Chair?

2:30PM Logan Booker | Motorised chair. It’s the type of description that screams “PAIN” – though probably only to me. I wear loose clothing and leave certain… things… hanging out where they shouldn’t. Anyway, meet “The Renegade” – an attempt to transform a device normally associated with relaxation into a machine capable of wrenching damp, sweaty fear from the very depths of your man glands. The press release (which you’ll find after the jump) states that The Renegade is made from “stain resistant fabrics”, among other materials. I can assure you this is a good thing, as I imagine it’ll need a thorough scrubbing after your first adventure in its soft, vibrating embrace. This melding of comfort, action and danger retails for $649 and will be available in June (though you can preorder now). Accessories include RCA cables, storage drawers and, if your hands lack Herculean stability, cup holders. Apparently it’s done well enough in the US to warrant sale here. I guess the best way to find out is to ask you guys – is this something you might buy? ULTIMATE GAME CHAIR: THE RENEGADE [Ultimate Gaming Collection] More »

Ace Bayou Rolls Out New Gaming Rocker

3:00AM Kotaku US Edition | Ace Bayou, a manufacturer of “innovative lifestyle furniture”, announced two new gaming chairs at CES, the X Rocker Pro-Series and X Rocker 4.1. Said to be twice as powerful as the traditional X Rocker chair, both new models come complete with four built-in speakers plus subwoofer, wireless capabilities, and the ability to daisy-chain multiple chairs together (or connect them with other items in the Xfunctional media furniture series). The X Rocker 4.1 also has “true” surround sound, which is designed to let gamers hear more audio clues when immersed in game play. Now, you’ll be able to hear when someone’s sneaking up on you right before you get fragged in Halo 3! The speakers on the X Rocker 4.1 are also removable. Ace Bayou will also have some of their pre-existing Xfunctional furniture on display at CES, including the X Pedestal Wireless Home Theatre Chair (US$199.50) and the Evolution Wireless with Battery Pack Chair ($US 149.99). The company also says that their furniture is compatible with most entertainment devices: iPod, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360, PSP, and DVD players. Gaming Chairs Evolve: Witness The Gaming Ottoman

3:30PM Kotaku US Edition | One thing that the Consumer Electronics Show isn’t lacking are adequate gaming chairs, the kind that gently caress ones bowels with a precisely placed subwoofer in an effort to “get you in the game.” This year’s CES will be no different, I’m sure, but it will bring at least one gaming chair advancement to the gadget-loving public’s attention: the gaming ottoman. Known as the Boompod from Boomchair, it appears to pivot, in an attempt to appeal to the more animated, more spastic gamer seen in television commercials and print ads. Expect plenty of the annual gaming chair coverage you crave and have come to expect from Kotaku when we touch down at CES 08 next week. Rump-on impressions of the Boompod will be posted as soon as is humanly possible. LumiSource Bringing Gaming Ottoman To CES [Gadget Lab] More »
