Once more I get the distinct feeling that I will spend hours upon hours designing my racer, car and special tracks, only to get bored with the actual racing afterward. I’ve not had a chance to play the game yet of course, so perhaps my tune will change, but in the meantime I have to ask myself how much being able to create a pink kitty girl racer is worth to me.

Millions.

Is it related to anything that shows up in Google when you type in 2K Games and Dubai? We here at Kotaku can only speculate about the secrets the VGA people are holding onto. They won’t tell us anything.

The name of the game and gameplay will premiere during the VGAs on December 12 at 8pm ET/PT (noon AEDT, December 13) on Spike. A Halo: Reach trailer is also scheduled for the broadcast.

1up.com reports that this is a teaser for Spec Ops and we can now even watch an August-posted TV commercial for it.

I’m liking the look of Darksiders more and more each time I see it. The gameplay does seem derivative of other action platformer titles, but I don’t see anything wrong with that. I don’t mind if a game looks or plays like another one, as long as it is entertaining. If we avoided things only because they looked like other things then we never would have had that crush on the girl at the record shop who looked like a punky version of Cameron Diaz, and then where would we be?

Note that this is the UK version of the video. Darksiders hits Australia on January 7.

There are three modes in total: VIP (just like Counter-Strike), Capture The Flag (with a single flag between two teams) and Global Thermonuclear War, which one side has to capture. Once captured, the thing goes off, killing everybody.

If you squint through all the garbage written on-screen, you can make out allegations that these modes are all tucked away on the disc waiting to be unlocked as DLC. Makes sense on a basic level, but the bonkers language isn’t helping their cause.

Of course you aren’t. Yes, let’s take another look.

In this IGN AU clip, you’ll see: corpses vanishing before their ragdoll death animations have concluded; heads remaining perfectly intact despite a machete slicing straight through them; corpses disappearing into concrete; flame retardant zombies; and infected miraculously blinking out of existence a fraction of a second before being killed by an explosion.

It is a travesty.

Atlus will be responsible for bringing the lush pixelised environments of 3D Dot Game Heroes to North American PlayStation 3s, publishing duties that we sincerely appreciate. So what is this game all about?

The standard fantasy drama formula is lovingly applied to 3D Dot Game Heroes. Peaceful civilisation thrives under the protection of some glowing orbs, evil shows up, threatens peace, orbs are scattered and a lone, superdeformed hero signs up to save the day. Along the way, a Legend of Zelda overworld theme homage plays and virtual legends are made.

What makes 3D Dot Game Heroes different is its lovely presentation, layering on the 8-bit retro style and player character customisation. It’s formally announced for a May 11, 2010 release date with a $US39.99 price tag.
