Black Box Studios has kicked off the closed beta test for Need for Speed World, adding thousands of testers over the next few months.

Need for Speed World is a persistent-world racing game where you’re always connected to thousands of driving game enthusiasts all over the world. If this sounds like fun to you, then you might consider heading over to the game’s website and applying for the closed beta test. The testing kicks off today with a select handful of participants, with more added on a regular basis as spring slowly turns to summer.

It’s nearly time to join the fight to save imagination from The Maelstrom, but first, a select few must save NetDevil’s development team some time and effort by going through LEGO Universe brick-by-brick, helping uncover bugs and fine-tuning the player experience.

We’ve received multiple forwarded closed beta test invites this morning, indicating that the first round of testing is kicking off tomorrow morning. Testing will run on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays until further notice.

Thanks to everyone who forwarded the emails! If you didn’t make it in to the test, feel free to stop by the game’s website and caress your monitor covetously.

Signing up for the Star Wars: The Old Republic community is your first step towards become a closed beta tester for the next big Star Wars MMO. BioWare wants active community members as testers, as active community members are more likely to provide feedback than dirty, stinking lurkers who lurk and stink. Once you’ve become a member of the community, you can visit the Game Testing Portal to sign up for your chance to be a part of Star Wars history or something.

Mind you there are no guarantees, but such is life.

Cryptic has launched the registration page for the closed beta testing phase of Star Trek Online.

Closed beta – the initial frontier. These are the voyages of the Star Trek Online beta tester. Your continuing mission? To explore strange new worlds; to seek up new bugs and report them to Cryptic; to boldly go where only a handful of people have gone before. Interested parties are urged to visit www.startrekonline.com to sign up for their chance to help make Star Trek Online the best game it can be.

“Closed beta registration is an important step in bringing Star Trek Online to the public,” said Craig Zinkievich, Executive Producer on Star Trek Online. “We are looking toward the launch of our first-of-a-kind MMORPG with anticipation and excitement and we expect Star Trek Online to explode onto the scene, giving fans and gamers a Star Trek experience like no other.”

I’d say your chances are pretty good if you sign up early. How many fans that enjoy both Star Trek and PC gaming can there possibly be?

When the Stargate SG-1 based MMORPG Stargate Worlds was first announced from Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, I had my doubts it would ever even reach the beta stage, yet here we are. The newly-formed publisher FireSky has announced that registrations for the closed beta of Stargate Worlds is now officially open. Hopeful players can head over to their website at www.StargateWorlds.com, register for an account, and have their name thrown into a giant hat from which beta testers will be chosen. They aren’t asking for tech specs, so I can only assume the selection process is to be random, or perhaps by which names they like the best. Testers will be the first to enter the Stargate, and perhaps the first MMO players to utter the phrase, “Draw their fire while I complete this mini-game.” My only question is can I be the James Spader Daniel Jackson, or am I going to be shoehorned into the Michael Shanks portrayal? This sort of thing keeps me up at night.
