New Club Nintendo Prizes Underwhelm

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 7:40 AM on November 19, 2008

Members of the Japanese version Club Nintendo who have racked up the required number of points from their Nintendo purchases will be able to secure one of the lovely prizes seen above — a gold painted Mario Kart Wii wheel, a Club Nintendo calendar for 2009 and a plush-looking Mario hat. Were the Wii wheel to come in Wario purple and gold and have a little "W" stamped upon it, I'd snap it up instantly, but would have to settle for the hat — were I to be a member.

Posted by Michael McWhertor at 10:00 AM on November 15, 2008

Nintendo of America announced that it was taking the Club Nintendo customer reward programing stateside in October, just prior to Tokyo Game Show. Details were scant, only revealing that Nintendo fans could accrue points through filling out surveys and, of course, buying armfuls of Nintendo stuff, then registering that stuff. But what kind of stuff will we, the purchasers of Nintendo stuff, get in return?

Posted by Mike Fahey at 3:35 AM on October 3, 2008

Stars. My god it's full of stars. Big news came at the very end of Nintendo's super-special press conference in San Francisco today, when President Reggie Fils-Aime announced that the Club Nintendo, the customer loyalty program already in place in Europe, Japan, South Africa, and Australia, is finally going to make its way to North America this holiday season. Running in a similar fashion to the previously established programs, fans will be able to collect points by completing surveys and registering products to save up for nifty premium items from a North American Stars Catalog.

Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 6:00 PM on September 5, 2008

Japan's Club Nintendo really has neat things. Not all the things are neat, but enough of them are. The new goodies offered to Japanese Nintendo Club members are:

• DS title Game & Watch Collection 2: 500 points
It includes retro Game & Watch titles Parachute and Octopus.
Touch! Generations Soundtrack: 400 Points
A 25 song CD with music from Animal Crossing, Wii Sports and Wii Fit. Key word: Smoothing.
Mario Party 8 Playing Cards: 300 Points
Self-explanatory, we reckon.
• Mario and Luigi Mini Pouches: 300 Points
They look like Mario Bros. hats, but are game pouches.
• Nintendo DS Lite Pouches: 250 Points
Four different colours to choose from — yellow, red, green and orange.
• Original Mario Badge: 250 Points
Also, four different designs to pick from.

Limited Premium DS Lites For Japan

Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 4:00 PM on June 24, 2008

Chalk up yet another reason to hate Japan's Club Nintendo. From July 1st to August 31st, a limited number of "Premium" DS Lites will be made available to lucky folks. How limited? There are only 3,000 of these outside cover plated "Premium" DS Lites, Here's the breakdown: 1,000 Premium Silver; 1,000 Premium Black; 1,000 Premium Rose. As website Gpara explains, these are actually the standard-in-Japan "Gloss Silver", "Jet Black" and "Metallic Rose" DS Lites treated with a special metallic plating cover. Club Nintendo members interested in snagging one of these need to enter the serial numbers of two purchased DS titles that went on sale after August 2006 into the Club Nintendo online application. There's a limit of five entries per member! From that, 3,000 winners will be selected at random. Click through the gallery to get a look at the "Premium" DS Lites.

Club Nintendo Coming To Australia

Australian Post Posted by Logan Booker at 12:30 PM on April 24, 2008

clubnintendo.jpgNintendo has confirmed what we knew was in the pipeline after discovering a membership card in our review copy of Mario Kart Wii - Club Nintendo is coming to Australia.

Essentially, Club Nintendo will reward you for buying Nintendo games. Games that are part of the system will come with a unique PIN that can be entered into the Club Nintendo site. You'll then be given Star points, which can be used to purchase "goodies" from a catalogue available on the Club Nintendo site.

This would all be awesome, if the official site wasn't under construction. The release says more info will be provided once it goes live.

From the sounds of it, other games will include membership details for Club Nintendo. For now, it's limited to Mario Kart Wii.

Full release after the jump.

Club Nintendo Zelda Statue Is A False Idol

Posted by Luke Plunkett at 11:30 PM on January 31, 2008

goldlink.jpg Club Nintendo UK? Rubbish, aren't they? Sure, their setup's not as good as Japan's. And sure, they may require your blood, sweat and tears to accompany your Star Points before they send you anything decent. But when they do send something. Well. Sometimes it's just magnificent. Like this 13" gold (not real gold) Link & Epona statue Kotakuite Dan just earned himself. The cost? A terrible one:

It cost 15,000 stars, which probably took me about 4-5 years of saving (you used to get 5 stars for a daily visit and I had amassed about 4000 stars this way, the rest was from game registrations at 250 a pop).
That there is what I call dedication.
