Voice Acting In Video Games

10:30AM AJ Glasser | Voice acting in video games makes for popular feature fodder – check out these two articles on vocal talent behind video games if you don’t believe me.

Condemned 2 Rated R18+ In Australia… According To JB Hi-Fi

12:30PM Logan Booker | What you’re looking at is a photo I took from JB Hi-Fi’s latest catalogue. Specifically, it shows Sega’s Condemned 2… with an R18+ rating. Now, we all know this is not possible, seeing there’s no R18+ rating for games in Australia – we’re still waiting to hear back from the Attorneys-General about that one. If you’re thinking it’s a sticker from the UK or US classification boards, I can assure you it’s definitely from the OFLC. The OFLC database also clearly shows that Condemned 2 was rated MA15+. So what’s going on? It’s a mistake, obviously. Maybe the designer who put the catalogue together thought Condemned 2 deserved a higher rating? [Thanks everyone who sent this in] More »

Offset The Evil Website Taken Down, Has Too Many Ponies

3:30PM Logan Booker | Oh, that oddly sweet yet secretly deranged website Sega had up to promote Condemned 2 wasn’t so bad. Sure, a dark heart of pure malice pumped raw nasty underneath its sugary exterior, but that was part of the fun! Right? Sadly, the mixed nature of the site, combined with the use of imagery that closely resembles Hasbro’s My Little Pony brand, has brought a stop to Sega’s shenanigans. According to this SMH story, the games publisher was asked to bring down the Offset the Evil website as Hasbro didn’t want consumers to confuse the hobo-smashing message of the site with its cute and mostly harmless kid’s brand. A representive from Sega said the company didn’t realise how closely matched the images were. It has stated the site will return in short order, once minor changes are made. Zero Punctuation Reviews Condemned 2 (And Indigo Prophecy)

5:30AM Mark Wilson | This week, Yahtzee officially reviews Condemned 2. And that’s great. But then, in the heat of passion, he breaks into a mini-review of Indigo Prophecy. Plus, if you really think about it, there’s actually a good amount of rhetoric on the original Condemned, too. So you are actually getting like 2 to 2 1/2 Zero Punctuations this week. And it’s all coming at you for a low, low price of just $US 100 an episode. Oh, didn’t you know? Then you’re fucked, man. But at least you get some steak knives (for only $US 8.95 S/H). Condemned 2 Trailer

11:56AM Kotaku US Edition | Condemned was one of the first games I got for my 360 a few years ago and to be perfectly honest, I wasn’t terribly impressed. As a matter of fact I sold it back to the store only a few days after purchasing it. Perhaps I should have given it another chance, but I had already moved on. This new trailer for Condemned 2 however has piqued my interest and looks to be much more up my alley. Hopefully the gameplay will be a bit more interesting than the original. More »

Heroes Cop Just Not Condemned Enough

5:40AM Mark Wilson | You may know Greg Grunberg as the mind-reading cop from, NBC’s Heroes, but you may also know Greg Grunberg as the protagonist from Condemned: Criminal Origins. So now that he’s on a geek-hit TV show, you’d think he’d be a hot commodity for Condemned 2: Bloodshot. But you’d think wrong. From Monolith’s Dave Hasle: We struggled with this one somewhat. Greg was a pleasure to work with, and he was willing to make the time to work with us on Condemned 2, but we felt we wanted a darker, edgier tone…We loved Greg’s work on Condemned; Criminal Origins and found him to be a great voice talent as well as a fantastic person to work with. It was purely a directional choice. Purely directional, aye? Or was it that you didn’t like Mr. Grunberg reading your mind? GAMES: Condemned 2: Bloodshot [via gamelife] More »

Condemned Movie Not Dead Yet

8:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Details are scant on the Condemned 2 movie tie-in The Unforgettable. The movie was first announced in Variety back in 2005. Scribe Kurt Sutter (pictured) was roped in to pen the move, and at the time he said, “I’m a big gamer, one who feels that, in the last five years, some of the smartest and most innovative ideas have come out of the gaming world.” Not many details have surfaced about the film recently, so game site Sega Nerds contacted Sutter, who said he just closed another deal to do a big script rewrite. A director, he said, is attached and will be announced at a later date. What’s more, Shutter adds: But the project is very much alive (especially after the surprising success of THE 300). In the world of features, a few years to get something into production is the norm… There will be some parallels [to the game], but it is not a movie BASED ON the game. It’s INSPIRED BY the same source material. I do like the idea of a movie being based on a game, rather than a game being made into a movie. That seems like a better approach.
