Grow a moustache for Movember, the annual month-long celebration of the moustache aimed at raising awareness of men’s health issues, and you and your ’stache could earn an appearance in Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption.

Taking place the entire month of November, Movember uses the moustache as a symbol to highlight important health issues affecting men, specifically prostate cancer. Think of it as our pink ribbon. Rockstar is a proud sponsor of Movember, and wants to give one lucky moustache growing man a chance to score an appearance in its Red Dead Revolver follow-up, Red Dead Redemption. All you have to do is grow a moustache during the month of Movember, starting from a clean shave, and submit your results to Rockstar in picture form. They’ll choose the most impressive of the lot and render him as a character in Red Dead Redemption.

I suppose women probably shouldn’t apply. I mean, some women certainly could, but I very much doubt they’d want to.

Visit the official Movember website for more information on how you can participate in helping raise awareness of men’s health issues with your face, and head over to Rockstar’s official contest page for official rules.

Just remember — your moustache will never be this epic, but it’s the thought that counts.

Hopeful MySpace Music artists who want to take a stab at making music with Beaterator can visit http://beaterator.ign.com/ to apply for a chance at being one of up to 100 artists that Rockstar chooses to participate in the Beaterator and MySpace Music Challenge. Those who make the cut will be sent a PSP and a copy of the game. From there they have 14 days to create something beautiful and poignant, after which their creations will be tossed up on MySpace and IGN communities to be weighed and measured for 25% of their final score.

The winner will receive the $US5000 grand prize and have their track featured on the PlayStation Network, where millions of PlayStation 3 owners visit every day. Not generally for music, but they do visit.

Artists have until October 11th to sign up for a chance, so if you happen to be a MySpace artist, get going. The rest of you can sit and ponder how fortunate it is that I didn’t abbreviate this article’s headline.

Kotaku AU Note: This competition is only open to US residents…

With just under three weeks to go before the new Animal Crossing hits the Wii, Nintendo is kicking off a Cosplay contest to try and generate a bit more attention for their game.

But not content to get gamers to dress up in absurdly embarrassing outfits, the Animal Crossing Welcome Waggin’ Costume Contest is an invitation to instead embarrass pets.

The entrants of the top 50 photos of animals dressed in costumes or characters from Animal Crossing will receive a Wii video game system, a copy of Animal Crossing: City Folk, a Wii Speak microphone, access to exclusive information about the game and the eternal and voiceless scorn of their pets.

Daily photo picks and details about the contest will be posted over at www.welcomewaggincontest.com, which appeared not to be working when I checked it a bit earlier today. Entries for the contest will be accepted starting today and running through Nov. 16.

Nintendo News: Animal Crossing Costume Contest Gives Fans a Chance to Win Prizes, Exclusive Info

Fans of Nintendo’s Animal Crossing™ franchise are some of the most loyal in the world. To reward them for their devotion to these community-building games and to get players fired up for the Nov. 16 release of Animal Crossing™: City Folk for Nintendo’s Wii™ console, Nintendo is hosting an outrageous animal costume contest.

Critter lovers can show their creativity by submitting the most original images of animals dressed in costumes or even as characters from the hit video game franchise Animal Crossing. The entrants of the top 50 photos in the “Animal Crossing Welcome Waggin’ Costume Contest” will win membership to the exclusive Welcome Waggin’ Committee. All committee members will receive a Wii video game system, a copy of Animal Crossing: City Folk, a Wii Speak™ microphone, access to exclusive information about the game and more.

Expanding on the popularity of the Animal Crossing series, Animal Crossing: City Folk lets every member of the household partake in the fun of a unique animal-filled town. Players use the simple controls of the wireless Wii Remote™ controller to customise their own characters and surroundings. And for the first time, players can take their adventure to the city, complete with shopping and theatre excursions. It’s also the first game to make use of the Wii Speak microphone, a new accessory that enables players to use voice chat over a broadband Internet connection. The Wii Speak microphone is sold separately.

Daily photo picks and details about the “Animal Crossing Welcome Waggin’ Costume Contest” will be posted at www.WelcomeWagginContest.com. Entries will be accepted Oct. 27 – Nov. 16. For more information about Animal Crossing: City Folk, please visit www.Animal-Crossing.com.

The folks over at Bit-tech teamed up with Ubisoft and German uber-modder Oliver “Butterkneter” König to create a special PlayStation 3 to commemorate the release of Far Cry 2. Instead of simply painting the PS3 like any sane person, Butterkneter created a painstakingly detailed base for the console, complete with rocks, plants, an empty magazine, a skull, and a friendly little ant. Then he painted the console, right? No, he removed the case, went to town with a dremel tool, and then painted the case, created the awesome spectacle seen above.

Hit the link below to check out the whole project from start to finish, and then enter Bit-tech’s contest for a chance to win the piece for yourself. Just in case you haven’t been paying attention, the answer is Africa.

(Need help dressing yourself?) BuyCostumes.com is here to help. The site has a bunch of Street Fighter costumes (each under $US50) and all new for 2008. Seems like Chun-Li could very well be teh female gamer costume of 2008. Hey, it might even be the male gamer costume of 2008. It’s really too early to call. But not everyone looks good in blue and yellow. Some look better in green.

TV host Olivia Munn dresses as the Capcom fighter after the jump. Reader Chesu as link. COSTUME FIGHT!

Reader Chesu sends along his entry (above, not Chun-Li). Our minds? Blown.

We’ve got a handmade Dead Space helmet we’re giving away. Dress-up like a game character (any game character is okay!) and send along a picture of you holding up a Kotaku sign to kotakucontestATgmailDOTcom with the subject line Cosplay Contest. Please do not send photos of Kotaku signs Photoshopped in. The deadline is November 1. The winner will be selected by Kotakuland and get this helmet. Happy Halloween to everyone and all that crap!

The first place winner will get tons of t-shirts (including pretty sweet Fruit Fucker and The Maw shirts) , a Fallout 3 survival guide, a World of Warcraft pet card from this year’s WWI in Paris (the Blizzard guys were kind enough to hand one over to us), a ping-pong gun, a Champions Online backpack and plenty of other little do-dads. And yes, we’re giving away Crecente’s one and only Vault Boy puppet. The second and third place winners will get other stuff. And who doesn’t love other stuff?

First Place
Second Place
Third Place

If you are responsible for either of these, shoot us an email at kotakucontestATgmailDOTcom with the subject line “I Won You Bastards”.
