It finally seems like the 3DS has gotten its legs underneath it, even as the Wii’s glory days fade further into the rear view. But there’s an unspecified while yet until the Wii U hits retail shelves and Nintendo’s still got a bunch of software coming on the home console and handheld fronts. The company’s released a partial list of games that will be out in early 2012 and highlights include Kid Icarus: Uprising, Resident Evil Revelations and Rhythm Heaven Fever. They’re also announcing that the Circle Pad Pro will be available in the United States on February 7 for $US20. More »

If the thought of waiting until next week for LocoRoco 2 is making you feel all wobbly, help is at hand.
It was 25 years ago today, Scott Safran taught the world to play… Asteroids. On this day in 1983, 15-year-old Scott Safran began playing Asteroids at an arcade in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
Two nuggets of Mirror’s Edge news fresh from the courier’s satchel – the PC version of the free running game will be taking the scenic route to arrive in early 2009 and will be turning up at the same time as a load of cross-platform DLC for the game.
We’ve had lots of people write in to mention Fallout 3 has been appearing on shelves for a couple of days already. I think it’s quite common for games to slip a couple of days before the official date, just as it is often the case with DVD releases and rentals. So for those who don’t have a cheeky check at their local stores when a favourite big new game is about to come out, remember to do it! You’ll beat any rush and be sure of getting a copy if it has slipped a little early.
But maybe this is a good question. Do you want us to report EVERY time a game hits shelves a little early? Even by a day? Or only when it is like Fable 2 where it scored people a full week, including a weekend, ahead of official launch? Keep in mind we get stores into trouble when we do mention these things, so what would you prefer?
UPDATE: And why not share your hot tips on the best stores to check for early releases? More »
It might not be the November 7th promised by Luke’s pre-order, but the official release date for the Xbox 360 version of Rock Band 2 in Europe is definitely falling on this side of Christmas. As if summoned by Plunkett’s scorn, MTV, Harmonix, and EA have announced the official release date for the sequel to the all-too-recently released rhythm game. November 14th is the date that Europeans and United Kingdominians will be able to get their hands on the disc-only version of the game, priced at €69.99 and £49.99 respectively, with the instruments going on sale by themselves sometime in December.
While LittleBigPlanet is officially under recall and should not be available for another week or two, it seems there are some retailers who may have missed the memo. Hellerphant has shared some interesting findings from some research today as he called around to try and get his hands on a copy just in case. Surely he was kidding himself?
I found most Harvey Norman outlets have stock in Victoria, and three of the five I called were willing to sell me a copy (picked mine up for $105 today). Also a few Dick Smith Stores in NSW/ACT: Woden PowerHouse; VIC: Chadstone; Large Store QLD: Townsville Powerhouse; SA: Elizabeth Powerhouse.
We made a couple of calls ourselves and found the Woden store had changed their tune but one regional Harvey Norman store confirmed they have copies available right now. We checked in with Sony Computer Entertainment and they were pretty concerned, so while you may get lucky with a few regionals right now, expect this breach to be shut down before the afternoon is out. Street Fighter IV Arcade is like a bowl of cherries – only the bowl is only available in Japan and you have to pay $$$ to illegally import the cherries. Then you have to solder the cherries to, er, a different bowl and they may not work and, er, taste wrong.
