Fallout 3 Street Date Today, Broken By Slim Margin

9:50AM Seamus Byrne | We’ve had lots of people write in to mention Fallout 3 has been appearing on shelves for a couple of days already. I think it’s quite common for games to slip a couple of days before the official date, just as it is often the case with DVD releases and rentals. So for those who don’t have a cheeky check at their local stores when a favourite big new game is about to come out, remember to do it! You’ll beat any rush and be sure of getting a copy if it has slipped a little early. But maybe this is a good question. Do you want us to report EVERY time a game hits shelves a little early? Even by a day? Or only when it is like Fable 2 where it scored people a full week, including a weekend, ahead of official launch? Keep in mind we get stores into trouble when we do mention these things, so what would you prefer? UPDATE: And why not share your hot tips on the best stores to check for early releases? More »

Rock Band 2 360 Gets Solid Euro Release Date

12:20AM Mike Fahey | It might not be the November 7th promised by Luke’s pre-order, but the official release date for the Xbox 360 version of Rock Band 2 in Europe is definitely falling on this side of Christmas. As if summoned by Plunkett’s scorn, MTV, Harmonix, and EA have announced the official release date for the sequel to the all-too-recently released rhythm game. November 14th is the date that Europeans and United Kingdominians will be able to get their hands on the disc-only version of the game, priced at €69.99 and £49.99 respectively, with the instruments going on sale by themselves sometime in December. LittleBigPlanet On Sale at Harvey Norman, Dick Smith (But Not For Long)

3:17PM Seamus Byrne | While LittleBigPlanet is officially under recall and should not be available for another week or two, it seems there are some retailers who may have missed the memo. Hellerphant has shared some interesting findings from some research today as he called around to try and get his hands on a copy just in case. Surely he was kidding himself? I found most Harvey Norman outlets have stock in Victoria, and three of the five I called were willing to sell me a copy (picked mine up for $105 today). Also a few Dick Smith Stores in NSW/ACT: Woden PowerHouse; VIC: Chadstone; Large Store QLD: Townsville Powerhouse; SA: Elizabeth Powerhouse. We made a couple of calls ourselves and found the Woden store had changed their tune but one regional Harvey Norman store confirmed they have copies available right now. We checked in with Sony Computer Entertainment and they were pretty concerned, so while you may get lucky with a few regionals right now, expect this breach to be shut down before the afternoon is out. Street Fighter IV Coming To US Consoles ‘This Winter’ Says Yoshi Ono

8:20AM Stuart Houghton | Street Fighter IV Arcade is like a bowl of cherries – only the bowl is only available in Japan and you have to pay $$$ to illegally import the cherries. Then you have to solder the cherries to, er, a different bowl and they may not work and, er, taste wrong. More »

LittleBigPlanet AU Release ‘Working Toward’ November 7

11:53AM Seamus Byrne | Many readers heard this via retail channels, and shared in the comments, but we have just received official word from Sony Computer Entertainment that they are “working toward achieving” a November 7 launch for LittleBigPlanet in Australia and New Zealand. That statement leaves some wiggle room (that is, it doesn’t say “confirmed”) should something stall the re-mastery process and local re-distribution, but it’s good we know a date to hang out for. Save your pennies, people, because Nov 7 – 14 may now be one of the toughest weeks at retail I’ve ever seen gamers have to contend with. More »

Velvet Assassin Slinks Back To 2009

7:20AM Stuart Houghton | European gamers who fancied some 1940’s stealth gaming in Velvet Assassin will have to wait until the new year. Replay has pushed back the game’s European release to early 2009. This is ostensibly to bring the launch in line with the US release but will of course have the handy side-effect of extending the development time by a couple of months and avoiding the Christmas rush.
