DC Universe Coming Late 2009, Early 2010
11:20PM Luke Plunkett | Marvel Universe may be dead, but DC Universe is not. It’s alive. And it’s coming. But when? Speaking with MTV, DC comics writer Geoff Johns – who’s working on the game – says it won’t be with us anytime soon. More »Geoff Johns Scribes The DC Universe Online
2:40AM Mike Fahey | The man responsible for bringing the original Green Lantern Hal Jordan back from the dead has been tasked with bringing the entire DC Universe to life in an all new medium. DC Comics writer Geoff Johns has been tapped to pen the story behind Sony Online Entertainment’s DC Universe Online, collaborating with comic artist Jim Lee on the project. “Taking comic books into the online space presents an exciting and unique opportunity for me as a writer,” said Johns. “I’m looking forward to creating a thrilling story that explains why the DC Universe has suddenly been populated with millions of new heroes and villains in a way that will engage players.” Excuse me if I gush a little bit, but the union of these two creative minds can only mean good things for the upcoming MMO. The only thing that could go wrong with a dream team like this working on the project is their work not translating well to the new medium, and that hardly ever happens. Hit the jump for some new screens from the game while I try to swallow that massive lie in the name of hope. DC Universe Online Gallery More »Midway Releases New Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe Teaser
11:40AM Adam Barenblat | Get ready for some fatalities and brutalities. Amidst all of the Sony news today McWhertor attended the Midway press conference this morning. Along with the announcement of four new Kombatants in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe they also released this teaser for the game. More »More MK vs DC Impressions, Any Left Over Crow?
7:20AM Kotaku US Edition | I know I wasn’t the only person shaking my head in disbelief after seeing the initial teaser trailer for Mortal Kombat vs. D.C. Universe a few months back. “What are they doing to this franchise? This must be a joke!” I said to myself. So I was surprised – and relieved – after all the positive impressions the game received coming out of E3. But how does it play? Midway dropped by to show off their upcoming titles this morning, and I got a chance to get a couple matches in. It appears as if Midway is going back to the basics with MK vs. DC. No more stage fatalities, run buttons, weapons, and no babalities or friendships either. Nothing crazy we’ve seen from the past couple MK games, anyway. The build I played was from this past Comic-Con, so while Joker and Green Lantern were announced recently, they still weren’t playable. And still, the only available fatalities were Scorpion’s flame engulf, and Superman’s brutality pound. Catwoman and Shang Tsung were playable, though, so I picked Catwoman just for the hell of it. Gears Of War Getting Comic Book Treatment
1:20AM Mike Fahey | DC’s WildStorm imprint is quickly becoming the go-to comics label for the video game industry. They’ve already got World of Warcraft and the recently announced Prototype, and now Epic and DC announce that Gears Of War will be getting the ongoing comic book series treatment as well. “We are thrilled to be working with DC Comics to further bring to life the Gears of War universe. A lot of our developers are huge comic fans, and have loved the personas and chronicles unique to DC Comics since childhood,” said Dr. Michael Capps, president of Epic Games. “The Gears of War storyline and characters that millions of gamers have come to cherish will be a perfect fit under the WildStorm imprint.” Debuting in October, the comic book series will begin with a story that bridges the events between the first game and Gears of War 2. This is getting to be just evil. Soon I’ll be back to the weekly, overly expensive trips to the comic store I thought I had gotten out of my system 7 years ago. Curse you DC! More »
