The second Watchmen based brawler, Watchmen: The End is Nigh Part 2, is coming soon, due to be released on July 21st, July 29th, July 30th and August 26th. Everybody got that? No?
The first episodic Watchmen game was awful. Which is probably why we’ve heard little of the second. Still, the game’s publishers are soldiering on, and will be releasing the pair on a retail disc.
Watchmen (the movie) is out. Seen it yet? Going to see it? If you find yourself nodding “yes”, then you’re just the kind of person Watchmen (the game) is targeted at.
The US$20 Steam pricing for Watchmen: The End is Nigh carries over to the Xbox Live Arcade version of the game, due out this Wednesday.
Grammatically improper, we know, but we’re big fans. Couldn’t resist. And as big fans, we can’t help but look at these screens and furrow our brows. Just a little. Prequel to the events of the comic’s main story arc or not, it’s tough to see the characters and universe of Alan Moore’s masterpiece broken down into simple beat-em-up characters, complete with health and “rage” bars.
First announced early last year, Deadline Games’ Faith And A .45 looked promising! It had biplanes, tommy guns and a sexy, ginger-haired lady. Basically, it made the Great Depression look fun!
We know, as fellow fans of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ Watchmen, how… trepidatious you may be about a video game based on the groundbreaking maxi-series. After all, it’s episodic in form, it’s a prequel to the original story, it’s downloadable, and it’s coming from a developer you’ve likely never heard of, Deadline Games. I mean, I went as Rorshach for Halloween when I was 13 years old, so I’m with you. But, unless you’re Alan Moore himself, you must be at least curious about the thing.
Ah. Relax, Watchmen fans. When we heard the episodic Watchmen games were to be “brawlers”, it was hard not to be a little disappointed. Reducing one of the greatest comic stories ever told to a “brawler”? It was a poor fit. But it’s OK! Because the games aren’t based on the comic. They’re prequels, set in the gang’s younger, more pugilistic days, where you’ll take on (at least in the first “episode”) the role of either Rorschach or Nite Owl. Good news, no? Much better they mess with that than ruin the storyline of the actual comic. Now for the better news. Dave Gibbons is working with the development team as an “advisor”, so even if they cock the game up completely, it should at least look OK.

2008′s best-named title is now also home to 2008′s most explosive trailer. In the literal sense, not the PR-speak sense. The whole thing, naught but explosions and fire! The highlight of which is an exploding, thrown gas tank, which as a co-op move looks pretty great (provided they mix it up – you don’t tend to run into that many gas tanks in your daily travels).
Deadline Games, the Danish devs behind the charming-yet-flawed shooters Total Overdose and Chili Con Carnage have taken the wraps off their latest project, a new shooter called Faith and a .45. Great name! It’s also offering a somewhat original premise, as it’s set in during the Great Depression, and will be focused on the Bonnie & Clyde-style adventure of a guy and his dame driving around shooting stuff up, as they try to topple the reign of “a ruthless, corrupt oilman who’s out for their blood”. You have our attention Deadline, keep us posted. Total Overdose Devs Reveal Faith And A .45 [Gamasutra]
